View Full Version : Question regarding Florence.
Billy K. 05-16-2007, 11:22 AM I had the impression during the first 2 season (on a couple of episodes) that Florence was also the Willis' maid.
Take a look at the episode where Florence was depressed (everyone thought she would commit suicide).
And also the first episode - "A Friend In Need".

In the first episode she came from the employment agency, not the Willises apartment
lil_weezy 05-18-2007, 12:18 AM her connection with the willises before she became the jefferson's maid was the fact that she was good friends with Diane, the Willises part-time maid.
She was never their maid.

Florence and Diane were not Friends, they never knew each other
Brian Damage 05-19-2007, 01:47 AM I could've sworn that Florence WAS BRIEFLY the Willises maid.

Later in the series because of an argument but in the first ep

Honestly I don't see why the Willises needed a maid, I guess eventually they came to the same conclusion and Diane disappeared. The Jeffersons didn't need Florence either, they kept her on out of love on Louise's part and as a symbol of status for George, but honestly the apartment wasn't that big and they could've kept it up themselves.

Mother Jefferson in 1975-"You are getting a maid for this itty bitty Apartment?"
LOL
Janice 05-19-2007, 09:41 PM I can see why the Willises would need or want a maid. If they had the money, why not have someone cook, clean, do laundry, etc, etc. If I could afford a maid, I'd hire one in a minute, and it's just me and my husband living here.

I hear that!!!!!!. I am seriously thinking of having someone come in one day a week or two times a month to just do some things around here and give me a break. Physically, I am unable to do things because of pain, but overall, it is nice to not have to do things like clean when there is other things you can do...or even just relax.
I think the Jeffersons reason (really George's reason) for hiring a maid is because Louise worked hard all her life and he wanted his wife to just "lay back and relax" and not have to wash dishes, clean the bathrooms, make beds, vacuum, dust, etc. I think it is reasonable to understand a man who has made a success in life to want to give his wife the gift of "not having to do housework".

I believe you're right about George. Where Isabel was a maid for others, for years, he wanted it to be her turn.
And if you can afford to hire some help Irene, GO FOR IT GIRL! You deserve it after all those years of bringing up kids, working, running a house. My goal in life is to never work again, lol. I worked for 26 straight years, without a single break. If I retired in my mid 40s, big deal, lol.

RIGHT ON!!!!! :D
The Jeffersons apartment may have been small and they may not have had small kids, but still, any house/apartment that is lived in, regardless of size, needs to be cleaned.

Very true! What exactly did Tom Willis do for a living again??
Irene, I hope too that you can hire someone. I know you've had back surgery and other physical setbacks. You've earned the right to rest and relax, and you deserve it too! :bighug:

I did that and it was the best thing I've ever done. I work way to much and school part time, I couldn't come home to clean and on the weekends I sometimes work.
So DO IT, FAST, I highly recommend it

I WILL...I WILL!!!!! I feel kinda silly for wanting to, but everyone works, it is just me and dealing with a rambunctious five year old who wants my undivided attention (when he is not in school) leaves for little time to really scrub my house.
I am a very neat and meticulous person when it comes to cleaning. I have to have a very clean house, however, there are times when my pain flares up and laundry piles up and so forth.

BRAVO! MY FRIEND, BRAVO!
Now about finding a great maid service  You have to interview lots and lots of people. It's hard finding trustworthy people who'll be in your home. I still lock up my goodies before they arrive

I hear that (abt locking the goodies  )! Trust is the big issue. I probably would have someone here while I am here, I don't think I could leave them alone. I have two grown daughters but they both work. I just need someone I can call when I get backed up with housework or pain flares up. Thanx for the advice girlfriend.
As for you Solomon, just CHILL! ;) It's not like this "off-topic" wasn't going to end.

Don't you wish you could have a maid or housekeeper at your place Sol? Forget if you can afford it, if you could, would you want one? Not like Florence though, she didn't do squat.
