LOUISVILLE, Ky. - O.J. Simpson won't take legal action against a Louisville restaurateur who booted him from a steakhouse on the eve of the Kentucky Derby after all, Simpson's attorney said Saturday.

Simpson and about a dozen guests were asked to leave Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse on May 4 by owner Jeff Ruby, who has said he asked Simpson to leave because "he continues to torment the family whose lives he's already ruined 15 years ago."

Simpson, a Heisman Trophy winner and NFL star, was acquitted in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman, but was found liable in a civil trial that followed.

Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, said Ruby is using the episode for publicity.

"If we had our druthers, this would have died that night and been over," Galanter said from his Florida office. "We are not pushing it."

Last week, Galanter had said his client's ejection was about race, and that he intended to pursue the matter and might go after the restaurant's liquor license.

"He screwed with the wrong guy, he really did," Galanter said of Ruby a few days ago.

can one actually refuse someone service in a formal business just because they want to? unless they have some kind of a "no people who ruin lives allowed" sign on the door, that doesn't sound very legal.

It is legal and it is used widely around the world for many reasons. A website owner has that right. A restaurant, any business has that right.

Again, this was all brought out simply for OJ publicity....why? He's sure not done anything to deserve press good or otherwise.

Maybe if he started paying what he owes to the Brown's and the Goodman's then I might start paying attention again. :rolleyes:


And yes - both in Canada and the U.S., a businessperson has the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason - period. Just as you as a private individual have the right to refuse anyone from your house (unless it's the cops with a warrant).

I'm actually suprised he chose not to. He seems to like taking every opportunity he can to get in the news.
