Someone emailed me asking about THE UNIT. That would be mid-season of 13 episodes. It could be for the fall, but as of now, more likely for mid-season. This thread will be open late tomorrow for discussion.

And it seems Babylon Fields is out of contention now. Very surprising.
Personally, that is the only CBS drama I was looking forward to.

CBS Monday sitcom block could have 9:30 and 8:00 swapped from above, according to some sources, but I think it is more unlikely.

Some odd changes. I liked the old schedule better. This one seems weird. I'm glad The Unit isn't listed on Tuesday anymore, but Twilight between NCIS and Shark? Seems strange. Swingtown and Cane being switched is kind of odd too.

CBS announced today its 2007-2008 Fall Primetime lineup, featuring five new series - one comedy, three dramas and one reality program.

These freshman series will join 17 returning programs on the current CBS lineup, which will win the 2006-2007 season in viewers and adults 25-54, continuing the Network's multi-year winning streak.

The five new series feature bold and creative concepts, including Viva Laughlin, where drama is accented by iconic music; Cane, starring Jimmy Smits as the head of a powerful South Florida Cuban-American family; Moonlight, a romantic thriller with a new twist on the vampire legend; The Big Bang Theory, a comedy about genius geeks from "Two and A Half Men" co-creator Chuck Lorre; and KID NATION, a reality series where 40 kids will try to build a new society in an abandoned ghost town.

"We approached our development this year with a specific goal in mind - to be daring and different," said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "The Fall and mid-season series we have selected offer creativity and variety with great potential to excite and surprise television audiences everywhere."

These new shows will be woven into a deep and successful lineup that returns more series and has more time period-winning programs than any other network. CBS will return television's Number One drama and scripted program, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION; the Number One comedy, TWO AND A HALF MEN; the Number One new comedy, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT; the Number One news magazine, 60 MINUTES; and the premiere reality series, SURVIVOR.

The new 2007-2008 schedule is:

On Monday, CBS adds a new series to television's top rated comedy lineup. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, with a young and loyal audience, returns at 8:00 PM, paired with the new genius comedy THE BIG BANG THEORY at 8:30 PM to form a young adult comedy block. From 9:00-10:00 PM, CBS returns television's top comedy, TWO AND A HALF MEN, followed by the Number One new comedy, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. At 10:00 PM, CSI: MIAMI, the night's Number One scripted series, returns for its sixth season.

On Tuesday, the Top 20 hit NCIS and THE UNIT return from 8:00-10:00 PM. This successful two-hour drama block will serve as a launching pad for the stylish new drama CANE at 10:00 PM.

On Wednesday, CBS returns its successful duo of CRIMINAL MINDS and CSI: NY from 9:00-11:00 PM. Earlier in the evening at 8:00 PM, the network will try something very different with a new reality series, KID NATION, starring 40 remarkable kids attempting to prove they can form a functioning society in an abandoned New Mexico ghost town, where their adult predecessors failed.

On Thursday, CBS returns one of television's top dramas, WITHOUT A TRACE, to 10:00 PM, joining forces once again with the time period-winning SURVIVOR at 8:00 PM and CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, television's Number One drama, at 9:00 PM.

CBS will again use an established series as a launch pad for a new one on Friday. GHOST WHISPERER opens at 8:00 PM as a compatible lead-in to the new romantic thriller MOONLIGHT at 9:00 PM, followed by the return of the time period-winning drama NUMB3RS at 10:00 PM.

Saturdays will feature CBS's CRIMETIME programming from 8:00-10:00 PM, followed by 48 HOURS: MYSTERY, the night's top-rated program.

On Sunday, CBS will once again open with 60 MINUTES, the perennial Number One newsmagazine on television. At 8:00 PM, CBS will make one of its biggest moves with one of its boldest new shows, VIVA LAUGHLIN, a drama with music, based on the British hit "Viva Blackpool." From 9:00-11:00 PM, the network will program a two-hour block of successful crime and justice with the growing COLD CASE and the sophomore series SHARK.

In addition to the new series for Fall, the network announced the pick up of three programs for midseason, including the four-time Emmy Award-winning THE AMAZING RACE, the comedy THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE, starring Emmy Award winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and the provocative new drama SWINGTOWN.

The network also announced it has ordered the reality series POWER OF 10, hosted by comedian Drew Carey ("The Drew Carey Show") for this summer.

THE BIG BANG THEORY is a comedy from the Emmy Award nominated Co-Creator and Executive Producer of "Two and a Half Men" Chuck Lorre, about brainy best friends Leonard (Johnny Galecki, "Roseanne") and Sheldon (Jim Parsons "Judging Amy"), who can tell you anything you want to know about quantum physics, but when it comes to dealing with everyday life here on earth they're lost in the cosmos. Neither fully understands that scientific principles don't always apply in matters of the heart - until they meet their sexy new neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco, "8 Simple Rules..."), a friendly screenwriter/waitress from the midwest who also happens to be newly single. KID NATION is a reality-based series in which 40 kids will have 40 days to build a new world - in a ghost town that died in the 19th Century. These kids, ages 8-15, will spend more than a month without their parents or modern comforts in Bonanza City, N.M., attempting to do what their forefathers could not - build a town that works. They will cook their own meals, clean their own outhouses, haul their own water and even run their own businesses - including the old town saloon (root beer only). They'll also create a real government - four kid leaders who will guide the group through their adventure, pass laws and set bedtimes. Through it all, they'll cope with regular childhood emotions and situations: homesickness, peer pressure and the urge to break every rule they've ever known. At the end of each episode, all 40 kids will gather at an old fashioned Town Hall meeting where they will debate the issues facing Bonanza City. They'll show wisdom beyond their years and the unflinching candor that only kids can exhibit. There are no eliminations on KID NATION - you only go home if you want to. Kid Nation sounds really stupid to me. Hopefully it doesn't negatively affect CM/CSI:NY's ratings.

Power of 10 would have been better for the fall instead of Kid Nation; that is the game show hosted by Drew Carey.

CBS's lineup looks so bland. None of the new shows look that interesting except maybe Moonlight which is on a dead night...Friday. I hope they don't expect Shark to get as good ratings as WAT got. With football in the fall I don't know what night I'll be watching it on.

At least try to put a new show in that spot. WAT should have stayed on Sundays. All CBS Thursday is going to do is get older. I haven't seen such a bland CBS Schedule in years. I agree so far this is the worst of the TV Schedules to be put out.

I thought Shark would go to Tuesday as well... CBS isn't going to get traction with a new show, so they have to move an existing hit. Why they can't figure that out is beyond me.

Viva Laughlin is going to be dealing with the football overruns which is going to kill it, and Shark will likely have a lot of weeks where it doesn't start til 10:30 or later. They have got to do something to fix this problem.

They just could have done so much better. I think ABC is going to win in the Fall, unless FOX makes some bold moves(which no one has really done this year yet, like ABC moving Grey's last year).

i only watch CSI (and CSI: New York sometimes) on CBS. i really don't like any of the other shows that i've seen although Shark was ok (my mom loves it). their comedies are so bland. i tried to get into How I Met Your Mother but i didn't like it. i never watched The Class but someone (coughashleefromtheseboardscough) told me i should. WHATEVER.

This schedule sucks really bad. I'll be watching Rules, CSI, and Ghost Whisperer only. Forget the new shows.

Cane looks great(there are previews at cbs.com), but as far as the Fall goes, that's it for me. Unfortunately, it's in a terrible timeslot with a very weak lead-in. It really should have gone elsewhere... like after CSI. Why CBS moved WAT back to Thursday when A. The rest of the night is aging and weakening(quickly), and B. They just moved it to Sunday last year and it did great(always won the timeslot), I don't know. :rolleyes:

The advertisers think The Big Bang Theory is the show that will make it on CBS, and Viva Laughlin is a loser. I found this excerpt from an article on media buying from mediaweek :

Over at CBS, sitcom The Big Bang Theory, hammocked into its Monday comedy block and starring 8 Simple Rules’ Kaley Cuoco, is seen as a winner. Cane, a drama about a Cuban-American family in the sugar cane business, with two feuding brothers, and starring Jimmy Smits, is well done, but buyers wonder whether the storyline will play well in non-metro markets; NBC’s highly touted Hispanic-themed Kingpin bombed a few years ago.

Buyers agreed that Fox’s new shows are better than last season, but they are not happy that it plans to shuffle its slate in mid-season. Of particular concern is shifting Bones from Tuesday to Friday, a move that killed Fox hit Dark Angels a few years back.

Big Bang Theory is hilarious. I think the majority of you who have followed my television tastes, know that I am generally not a big comedy fan. But when you take two nerds and have them living beside a really hot blonde girl, I guess my tastes change (perhaps I identify with the situation or something). I have high hopes for this show. The pilot was very funny and the dialogue was brilliant. It starts off with the two lead characters, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) making donations at a sperm bank. They soon have a change of heart and demand that they get their deposits back. The show only gets funnier as they return home to find a stunning new neighbor, Penny, moving in. It's definitely worth a laugh or two when the pair invite her over to eat and she ends up asking if she can use their shower. We find out that Sheldon measures his social superiority with the number of 'friends' he has on Myspace and that the pair like to party by playing Klingon Boggle until 1:00 a.m. The comedy only gets better when Leonard and Sheldon's actual friends show up. The show is smart and funny and I loved it. It is a significant improvement over the comedies that I saw last year and I think that with the network securing the rights to creator Chuck Lorre's other show (Two And A Half Men and pairing it alongside established hits like Corner Gas and Robson Arms, the Big Bang Theory is that this show is destined for success.

I kind of rolled my eyes when I read about this show, but after seeing the clip, I gotta say this one just might be a hit. Got my fingers crossed for them.

Every single review I have seen on The Big Bang Theory is terrific. Everyone who has seen the whole pilot loves it, and thinks it is very funny. I think Chuck Lorre could have another potential hit here if it can generate any kind of rating in that tough 8:30 time slot.

Anyone of The New CBS Show's in Hight Definition.

All I know is I am looking forward to the new season of Numb3rs. I have really gotten hooked on this show over the past three seasons. The chemistry of the characters is one of the best, and I am a crime drama junkie. I will be watching all my other favs too; Cold Case, Without a Trace, and CSI. I might catch some of the episodes of Shark, I liked it, but not enough to really devote a lot of time to it. My biggest problem is overcoming the inertia of being too tired to stay up long enough to watch them, but thank GOD for being able to record them if I do nod off. That's what comes with old age, getting up TDE in the morning, and wrestling alligators (teaching school) all day! LOL :D

i dont know, im definitely gonna watch the premiere tonight because its so controversial. With all the press the show has gotten, i cant stay away and i think other viewers might feel the same way. I want to see for myself what all this buzz is about...

I will not be watching Kid Nation AT ALL. I'm glad it's finally premiering because I'm sick of all the promos and hype about it. I fully expect quite a lot to tune in tonight, but I don't think it will hold up as we go into October and the competition gets tougher.

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- "Viva Laughlin's" luck has run out while "The Amazing Race" is getting an early return date.

The 12th season of the Emmy-award winning reality series is set to roll out on Sunday, November 4 at 8:00/7:00c. A repeat of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" will fill said hour on October 28, sending "Viva" home after just two episodes.

"Viva's" 1.2 adults 18-49 rating last night marked the worst first-run series performance on the network since "Armed & Famous's" final broadcast on 1/24/07 (1.4 rating).

It's not clear how many "Viva" installments will remain on the shelf.

Hugh Jackman, John Palermo, Bob Lowry, Paul Telegdy and Peter Bowker were the executive producers of the series, which came from Bob Lowry Productions, BBC Worldwide Productions and Seed Productions in association with CBS Paramount Network Television and Sony Pictures Television.

CBS's NFL Runover (New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts) Attracts 38.46 Million Viewers

CBS placed first in viewers and adults 25-54 and just -0.1 of a rating point from first in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Nov. 4, week six of the 2007-2008 television season.

CBS dominated the week in viewers, placing first on five consecutive nights-Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The week, which included the first four nights of the November sweep, saw the premiere of the 12th edition of THE AMAZING RACE attract the largest ever first episode audience for the five time Emmy Award winning adventure-reality series; highest ratings since their premieres for SURVIVOR: CHINA and WITHOUT A TRACE and highest ratings in nearly two years for 60 MINUTES. The week was capped off with 38.46 million viewers for the prime NFL runover of the New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts.

For the week in viewers, CBS (12.33m) outpaced ABC (11.33m), NBC (7.98m) and FOX (7.01m). Season-to-date, CBS is first in viewers (12.13m), ahead of ABC (11.53m), FOX (9.53m) and NBC (8.76m).

I don't watch those shows (CSI on occasion), but I did tune in to that crossover last week. It was pretty good.

CSI has Sarah leaving tomorrow night. It looks like a good one. I'm going to watch that, and see why it's still the #1 show on television, 8 years in.

CBS to unveil revamped schedule
Network plans ninth edition of 'Big Brother'

With hopes for a quick settlement of the WGA strike dimming, CBS is getting ready to unveil a revamped winter sked -- and that includes moving forward with plans for an in-season edition of reality hit "Big Brother."

Ninth installment of the summer staple will make its bow Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m., Eye insiders confirmed Monday. Julie Chen-hosted reality skein will also air Wednesday and Sunday nights at 8 p.m.

On Tuesday nights, “Brother” will act as a lead-in for “Jericho,” which will return for its second season Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. CBS revealed that news to fans of the show Monday afternoon via its website.

CBS will announce other January and February sked changes later Monday.

Meanwhile, NBC continues to shake up its post-January sked, dumping "Bionic Woman" and "Life" for a double dose of Dick Wolf.

"Law & Order," which was supposed to return on Sundays next month, will instead be back in its old 10 p.m. Wednesday slot, starting Jan. 2. It'll get a two-hour premiere that night, airing from 9-11 p.m.

On Jan. 9, NBC will begin airing repeats of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Skein's first-run segs have been airing on NBC sister cabler USA Network this season.

NBC didn't offer any word on the fate of "Bionic" or "Life." Latter skein has been renewed for a full season, but NBC hasn't made any official decisions on "Bionic."

Eye scheduling execs, staying true to form, have slotted the winter "Big Brother" in a manner that's minimally disruptive to the net's current sked.

While the Tuesday edition of "Brother" displaces the scripted series "The Unit," the Wednesday and Sunday episodes take the place of reality shows--"Kid Nation" and "The Amazing Race"--- that will have wrapped their respective runs by February.

Winter air pattern for "Brother" is also very similar to the skein's summer sked, in which episodes air on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights.

Among the potential skeins on CBS's winter slate: "Jericho," "Swingtown," "Million Dollar Password," "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "The Captain."

It's unclear if the ninth season of "Brother" will still air in the summer.

CBS today unveiled its 2008 summer schedule comprising nearly 90 hours of original programming, including three new reality series (GREATEST AMERICAN DOG, MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD and JINGLES), two new dramas (SWINGTOWN and FLASHPOINT), summer stalwart BIG BROTHER, two live mixed martial arts events (CBS ELITE XC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS), THE AMERICAN THEATRE WING'S 62ND ANNUAL TONY AWARDS and AFI's 10 TOP 10.

The summer lineup will also see rebroadcasts of WITHOUT A TRACE, NUMB3RS and COLD CASE moving to new time periods.

The Reality Series:

Extraordinary teams of dogs and owners across the nation will compete for the title of GREATEST AMERICAN DOG (working title), premiering Thursday, July 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). Owners and their pets - from "pageant dogs" to those simply trained at home - will live together and compete against each other in games that put the owners' ability to train their dogs to the test. The winning team will walk away with a $250,000 cash prize.

Regis Philbin returns to prime time to host MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD, a modern update of one of television's greatest game shows, premiering Sunday, June 1 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). This update takes the classic game and brings it to the 21st century with big celebrities, big money and big stakes. Contestants team up with some of the hottest stars, from Rosie O'Donnell, Betty White, Rachael Ray and Neil Patrick Harris to "High School Musical's" Monique Coleman, to earn up to one million dollars. One player from the team is told secret passwords and can use only one-word clues to get the teammate to guess them. If the player and the celebrity can work well together and become a solid team, that player could uncover the MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD.

JINGLES (working title), premiering Sunday, July 27 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) from executive producer Mark Burnett, is a weekly competition which challenges contestants to write and perform a jingle about anything from products to sports teams each week. The products will be anything from a food or toy, to a health or beauty aid, or a team fight song, TV show theme or update to a classic jingle. To survive each competition, they will have to impress not only a panel of judges and a live audience, but also the American public, who will ultimately decide the winner.

BIG BROTHER, a CBS summer stalwart, returns for its 10th edition on Sunday, July 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) with all new game twists and surprises. CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, the first live mixed martial arts primetime network television event, will be broadcast Saturday, May 31 (9:00-11:00 PM, live ET, delayed PT) from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Elite XC heavyweight sensation Kimbo Slice headlines the night of action that will also see Champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler defend his title again Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith in a middleweight championship bout. CBS will present its second CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHT on Saturday, July 26.

The Drama Series:

Previously announced SWINGTOWN, from the director of "Big Love" and "Rome," premieres Thursday, June 5* (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). The series peeks into the shag-carpeted suburban homes of the culturally transformative '70s to find couples reveling in the sexual and social revolution that introduced women's liberation and challenged conventional wisdom. During this heady era of provocative change, Susan and Bruce Miller move their family to an affluent Chicago suburb where they're confronted with personal choices, experimentation and shifting attitudes, all against the backdrop of a changing social climate defined by its unforgettable music, fashion and style.

FLASHPOINT, an emotional journey into the tough, risk-filled lives of a group of cops in the SRU (inspired by Toronto's Emergency Task Force), premieres Friday, July 11 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). It's a unit that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, climbs the sides of buildings and talks down suicidal teens. As they race against the clock to determine what brought these people to their respective breaking points, members of this highly skilled team use their training in negotiating, profiling and getting inside the suspect's head to diffuse the situation to try to save lives.

SWINGTOWN is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television. Mike Kelley, Alan Poul and Carol Barbee are executive producers. THE AMERICAN THEATRE WING'S 62ND ANNUAL TONY AWARDS, honoring theatre professionals for distinguished achievement on Broadway, will be broadcast Sunday, June 15 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT). Broadcast on CBS since 1978, this year will mark the 11th year that the Tonys are being held at the historic Radio City Music Hall.

AFI'S 10 TOP 10, a new chapter in its Emmy Award-winning "AFI's 100 Years..." series, will be broadcast Tuesday, June 17 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). This new edition will count down the top 10 films from 10 classic American film genres, including animation, fantasy, science fiction, gangster, western, sports, romantic comedy, courtroom drama, mystery and epic films.

Effective with the summer changes, WITHOUT A TRACE will relocate to Tuesday (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning June 3; NUMB3RS moves to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) effective July 11 and COLD CASE moves to Sunday (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on July 27.

That summer lineup looks extremely boring to me. I was hoping for the return of Power of 10 in the summer, but I guess not. A few more Price is Right primetime episodes would have been nice as well, but instead, we get more Big Brother :eek:
