Beta Version of HD Channel to Launch on

ABC.com's Ad-Supported, Full-Episode Broadband Player This Summer





Dedicated to expanding its network and channel brands across multiple platforms and connecting viewers with their favorite shows anytime and anywhere, Disney-ABC Television Group announced today that it will begin to stream content in true high definition resolution this summer on its Emmy Award-winning ABC.com broadband video.



"We are excited to be the first in the industry to stream HD video available on the web, providing ABC.com users with an unprecedented online viewing experience," said Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney-ABC Television Group. "By continuing to listen to our audience and enhancing our digital offerings with the best technology available, we further strengthen their relationship to our brands.”



Launching as a beta test in early July, the full-episode broadband player's HD channel will feature a limited amount of content in true high-definition 1280 X 720 resolution from such series as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ugly Betty." In conjunction with the launch of the new season in September, a more robust HD programming line-up will be offered.



"This is all about innovating and creating 'what's next' to give consumers with best experience as they watch our content, regardless of viewing platform," said Albert Cheng, executive vice president, digital media, Disney-ABC Television Group. "With the advancements in display devices and the prevalence of hardware with the processing capabilities to handle this technology, offering true HD content online is a natural."



Additionally this fall, the ABC.com’s full episode player will be expanded further to included national news and local content, in addition to primetime entertainment programming. This new player will be geo-targeted, offering the ability for local ads and content to be more relevant to each individual user.



ABC.com’s broadband player currently offers full-length episodes in high quality, standard definition resolution of over a dozen series including “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Ugly Betty,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “Notes from the Underbelly,” “Dancing with the Stars,” and “According to Jim” free to consumers on ABC’s website the day after their broadcast premieres.



In April, the full-episode player began offering full-screen viewing as well as small “mini” screen that users can position wherever they choose on their desktops, in addition to the two original standard viewing size viewing options. To date, ABC affiliates covering 80% of the country, including all major affiliate groups as well as the ten ABC owned stations, have launched or have committed to launching the player on their own websites and are taking advantage of the opportunity to incorporate local advertising into the programming.

Video-on-demand shows will be available the day after their television premiere. In general, customers will be able to access the four most recently televised episodes of each series. The content from Disney-ABC Television Group is available via Sprint TV on Sprint’s multiple Power Vision devices, and it will be included in the Sprint Power Vision TV Pack, which costs an additional $20 per month. I am morbidly curious to see how bad it is.

We could have a little scoop tomorrow. Come to the blog sometime between 8-9am for the ABC fall line-up. I'm crossing my fingers that I can release it first. If it is anything like the rough schedule, that is sure going to be a strong ABC fall. I just hope Football Wives can be picked-up like October Road was with that option to pick-up before December.

I hope they can work things out and keep Football Wives alive. I think it could become the next big show on ABC.

Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment, today outlined ABC’s plans for next season and unveiled the network’s 2007-08 fall schedule before a crowd of ABC affiliates and representatives of the advertising and media communities at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.



Scheduled to debut next season are four new comedy series: “Carpoolers,” “Cavemen,” “Miss/Guided” and “Sam I Am”; along with seven new drama series: “Big Shots,” “Cashmere Mafia,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Eli Stone,” “Private Practice,” “Pushing Daisies” and “Women’s Murder Club.” Alternative series “Oprah’s Big Give™” is also slated to debut.



In addition to the new series, ABC previously announced season renewals for “Brothers & Sisters,” “MEN IN TREES,” “Ugly Betty,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Boston Legal,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “The Bachelor,” “Supernanny,” “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Wife Swap.”



“October Road” and “Notes from the Underbelly” will return for second seasons as well.



“We’re heading into the new season with a strong lineup of returning shows that we’ve developed and nurtured over the past few years,” said McPherson. “That solid foundation will help us launch an exciting development slate as we continue our forward momentum this fall. We’re dedicated to working hard week after week to deliver the best stories and most memorable characters on TV.”



During the 2006-07 TV Season, ABC’s first season in decades without “Monday Night Football,” the network solidified its dominance with women and in all upscale measures. And with the addition of “Ugly Betty,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “October Road” and “MEN IN TREES,” ABC has added a new generation of broad-appealing, young, accessible dramas to its roster. ABC is the #1 network with Women 18-34 and Women 18-49, and is currently in second place for the season among Adults 18-49, leading both NFL-fueled CBS (with ”Super Bowl 2007”) and NBC (with ”Sunday Night Football”).



Excluding sports from the mix this season (to account for the loss of “Monday Night Football,” the 2006 “Super Bowl” and the Bowl Championship series) ABC is the No. 2 network to Fox among Adults 18-49. The network airs 7 of the Top 20 TV series in the key young adult sales demographic. ABC retained 99% of its Total Viewers, 100% of its Adult 18-34 audience and 95% of its Adult 18-49 audience year to year in the “non-sports” averages. Additionally, ABC marked its second straight season as the No. 1 television network among advertiser-prized upscale, high-income Adults 18-49 (with/$100K+ annual income). And ABC is the only network whose May Sweep performance is up from a year ago.



As previously announced, “Saturday Night College Football” will return for a second season on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 (8:00 p.m., ET).

“Pushing Daisies”

“Cavemen”

I have to commend ABC. They have what looks like AWESOME new shows. I'm not that sure Caveman or Carpoolers will do all that well, or Eli Stone, but other than that ... ABC has good fall potential and I almost want to watch nearly everything!

I'm a little worried about their Wednesday night. THREE all new dramas? And can Men in Trees really lead off a night? Especially Friday?

And call me crazy but I'm noticing a lot of networks (well, all of them really now) are saving some mild performers that are somewhat popular, holding them over for mid-season. I think that's a smart idea instead of outright canceling them and then having their new shows bomb with nothing to fill the void. I think they're finally getting smart.

George Lopez is gone. According to Jim might be announced for a return at a later date.

ABC is gambling big on Wednesdays, but ABC is treating Private Practice like a returning show and should be big, but probably not as big as Grey's. 75% of GA's numbers even will be huge. If it hits, ABC will have a massive hit on each night from Sun-Thurs.
Lost will probably come Tuesdays or Wednesdays in February.

Just my take.

ABC is going with minimum repeats next season, so expect a lot of shows filling in for repeats of other shows. Yes, I think The Middle and The Hill won't be picked-up, Football Wives has an option to be picked-up, like October Road of last year, but it seems unlikely. A return of According to Jim is also possible.

Good schedule, but I'm a little disappointed to see The Bachelor back on Mondays, and comedies on Tuesdays. Both nights look dead when DWTS is over. I'm a big ABC fan and was really looking forward to this one, so it's a bit of a letdown but otherwise I think the schedule looks great. I love Private Practice/DSM and that Betty/Grey's is left together and Sundays is left alone.

An additional 3 1/2 hours there.

I'm still holding out that they will ditch the sitcoms on Tuesday, bump DWTS Results to 8, and put another new drama at 9.

I see MIT (Men In Trees) moved to Fridays. I just hope that next season ABC will leave MIT alone and stop playing around with it. ABC only aired 17 out of 22 episdes for Season 1. The remaining five episodes will supposedly air in the fall.

Yep, it'll have 27 episodes which means fewer repeats or pre-emptions. By my count only 8-9 and that includes the month of December which it could take off entirely. So there should be a lot of episodes in a row, and I don't expect ABC to move it around.

We're so sorry to hear George Lopez is gone. We really liked that one. With that & King Of Queens gone, it looks like everything I watched on Network tv is gone now. Thank God we have satellite dish now or I'd have nothing to watch...

True, but Private Practice is getting the rare honor of being a spinoff of Grey's(and has already had the pilot screened as part of Grey's!), but, a lot of spinoffs do fail so it remains to be seen. I think they can both co-exist and be successful though. CSI and Grey's do.

Tim Daly and Taye Diggs(Day Break) are both show killers... and a lot of Grey's fans didn't like the backdoor pilot(I liked it pretty well, but it needs work). Hopefully some retooling will occur over the summer.

That's your opinion. Have you seen the pilots? They are very similar thematically and the odds are enormously against you when you premiere so many new shows. I don't expect any of them to make it to a second season. The only stability they have is with Grey's and Dancing with the Stars. Desperate, Lost and Boston are all eroding and the oldest scripted shows they now have.

I will see the pilots this week. ABC has strong anchors Sun-Thurs at 9pm. All shows will be sampled decently. ABC found hits in Ugly Betty and Brothers and Sisters last season. What makes you think none from this season will hit? That makes no sense. You have not seen the pilots, how do you know they are similar? Pushing Daisies is not a regular serial, plot lines will be closed each episode. Same goes for Women's Murder Club.
Desperate Housewives is still getting 17 million. NBC would kill for a series that does that. DH will go back up, it is not on the decline. Lost will go back up when it goes back to an earlier hour. In fact, DVR ratings for Lost are great and if you add that in to the actual ratings...Lost is not down. Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, Big Shots...um who can beat those? No other network has anything remotely big as those.

ABC took a risk in putting three new dramas on Wednesday. GA spin-off is technically not a new series since the character of Addison is in it. It is a risk and it will be a great risk that will be paid off if it hits big. Mind games again?

Nope. It's grade-school English. You didn't post it before anyone else. The trades reported it on their websites the night before. Give credit where credit is due.


ABC Wednesday will collapse by November sweeps. There is already a creative backlash for the spin-off. A spin-off is technically a new series since it is just beginning. All the elements except for the lead are new. Every schedule you see will designate it as "new series."

CM and CSI:NY still bring in Top 20 numbers. You may not be a CBS fan, but it's not like PP and DSM will have no competition whatsoever.

The trades did not post the schedules the night before. They posted what they thought would happen. Find me the link. ABC didn't talk to anyone about it until the 8am conference call. And they gave out the schedules then. It didn't come online until 8:28am. I had put it up at 8am.

I loved the dramatic slow reveal like that, I just wish we had seen a clip or at least bigger pictures of the stars(they really need to play up Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland!) but I did like how they imposed the pictures over the skyscrapers.

The Pushing Daisies promo is now added to the Lost finale. It will air first. So 5 fall promos in the finale! In order: Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money, Cavemen, Big Shots.

Watch them all you can, because you won't see them for awhile now. Maybe Monday, but not before that.

ABC is hoping to reinvent the newsmagazine for the YouTube generation with a show produced by ABC News but based on user-generated video.

Hourlong skein "i-Caught" will get a six-week run on the network starting Aug. 6 and then return midseason to replace "The Bachelor" on Monday nights.

Amateur video will form the basis of the show's segments, but ABC News correspondents will build news stories and features around video captured on cell phones or digicams and uploaded to a companion Web site.

Exec producer David Sloan said the show will take on a wide breadth of potential stories, including breaking news; celebrity journalism; investigations; and stories of politics, crime, Internet hoaxes or just the moments of everyday life.

Bill Weir from Good Morning America Weekend will host.

Just for Laughs is made here (Montreal) and it is quite funny. Very light stuff, kind of shows that if you start watching, you will probably watch it until the end. Not really a show you make an appointment to watch though.

The version we have doesn't have a host, it actually only has music, no voice over at all and it has been going on for years.

A good show for summer.

Isn't it called Just for Laughs Gags? And the comedy festival is called Just for Laughs? Either way - it is a very funny show and somehow even better that there is no host. You don't really need someone in there telling you what is going on as you can figure it out yourself when you see the gag.

Has there ever been an ABC sitcom pilot you have not liked ? Carpoolers and Cavemen are getting bad to terrible reviews all over the place. Samantha is supposed to be good, but the others, please they are supposed to be terrible. Why do you think ABC renewed According to Jim ? It is to cover for one or even both of these two potential bombs.

They are all over. The futon critic is reviewing the show, the couch potato. Marc Berman has seen them and many more. Lots of critics hang out in Marc Berman's PI forum and these are the ones they have seen and liked.

Here are the sitcoms that are getting positive reviews. In fact, I have barely heard anything bad about any of these. Ironically, one per network. Here is the ones everyone should at least try :

Thanks Pavan. That's unfortunate. :( Gee at this point, I'd settle for one of those summary scrolls at the end of the final episode, or where they show the character's picture with a brief synopsis of what happened to them. Just have the writers whip one up, lol.

The season premiere of Boston Legal will be scheduled on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 with a special 90-minute episode in the 9:30-11:00 PM ET/PT time period following a 90-minute Dancing with the Stars Performance Show.

So, ABC will air four 90-minute programs (Monday and Tuesday...two Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor and Boston Legal) to start the season.

The season premiere of Boston Legal will be scheduled on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 with a special 90-minute episode in the 9:30-11:00 PM ET/PT time period following a 90-minute Dancing with the Stars Performance Show.

So, ABC will air four 90-minute programs (Monday and Tuesday...two Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor and Boston Legal) to start the season.

I can't wait for Boston Legal... for the obvious reasons. :eyes:

In order to strengthen the Wednesday night programming and lead-in into the last two telecasts of "NASCAR in Primetime," ABC will now schedule "Just for Laughs" on both Wednesdays, September 5 and 12, 2007 at 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM ET/PT. "Just for Laughs" will continue to air Tuesdays at 8:00 PM and 8:30PM ET/PT on Sept. 4, 11 and 18.

Which means, "NASCAR in Primetime" will return to Wednesdays at 10:00 PM ET/PT for its final two airings. "Primetime: The Outsiders" is no longer scheduled.

Dirty Sexy Money was all kinds of awesome!!!! Incredible show!!!! Definitely a 10/10. Best new show of the year so far. My new guilty pleasure.

Private Practice was pretty good... and I'll defintely watch again. It wasn't perfect, but most pilots aren't. It was better than the backdoor pilot though and I see lots of potential.

Yes, DSM is unbelievable. Pushing Daises is even better. I have DSM episode three, which is said to be VERYYYYYYY good, but I won't watch it until I see episode two next week, which I hear is not as good as the pilot. So if you all feel that way, don't give up because episode 3 is going to be great.

But the bigger news was the debut of NBC’s The Bionic Woman, which built from the second half of lead-in Deal or No Deal (6.6/10 at 8:30 p.m.) by a hefty 41 percent. Third in the hour in the overnights was the season premiere of CBS’ Criminal Minds (9.0/14)

In the 10-11 p.m. battle of the two series premieres (ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money and NBC’s Life) versus the season premiere of CBS’ now veteran CSI: NY, the Big Apple forensic crime solvers took the hour with an 8.8/14 in the overnights. But compared to its year-ago season-premiere (10.8/17 on Sept. 20, 2006), that was a loss of 19 percent. Dirty Sexy Money finished second in the hour, with a 7.9/12, followed by Life at a 6.9/11. Although Life did actually build by 15 percent from the overnight debut of year-ago occupant Kidnapped (6.0/10 on Sept. 20, 2006), retention of just 74 percent out of the second half-hour of The Bionic Woman (9.3/14) is a concern. Dirty Sexy Money had better retention out of Private Practice (83 percent), but both new dramas lost steam at 10:30 p.m. Take a look:

Here's hoping your right. I'm withholding judgement on PP and DSM til next week. I really hope Pushing Daisies does well also.

It looks like more people watched PP and DSM in groups, since the households were a point higher than BW and Life, as those two were near the total viewers for PP and DSM.

The resolution of a "CSI" cliffhanger propelled CBS to a ratings win Thursday, beating out "Grey's Anatomy" and ABC.

For the night, CBS averaged an 11.3 rating/18 share to top ABC's 9.4/15 (the two were separate by about 4 million viewers). NBC came in third with a 5.7/9. FOX, 4.2/7, finished fourth, while The CW drew a 2.4/4.

CBS also won the adults 18-49 demographic -- narrowly -- scoring a 5.8 rating to edge ABC's 5.7. NBC was a healthy third at 4.3, while FOX, 1.9, and The CW, 1.4, were well off the pace.

"Survivor: China" gave CBS the lead at 8 p.m. with an 8.4/14. The season premiere of "Ugly Betty" delivered a 7.4/12 for ABC. An hour-long season opener for "My Name Is Earl," 5.3/9, put NBC in third. FOX took fourth with "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" The CW got a 3.1/5 from the season premiere of "Smallville."

"CSI" scored a 14.8/22 at 9 p.m. as the fate of Sara Sidle was revealed. "Grey's Anatomy" began its season with a 13.0/20 on ABC (it did, however, snag the night's best 18-49 rating). NBC's hour-long "Office" earned a 5.4/8. FOX stayed in fourth with "Don't Forget the Lyrics," 3.6/5, and The CW repeated the "Reaper" premiere.

CBS closed its sweep of the night with "Without a Trace," 10.9/18. ABC's "Big Shots" premiered to a 7.8/13, beating the 6.4/11 for the season premiere of "ER" on NBC.

A night of season premieres on ABC lifted the network to a ratings win Sunday, while a grinder of an NFL game took NBC down a notch.

ABC averaged an 8.9 rating/14 share for the night. CBS finished second at 8.6/14, and NBC, 7.2/12, took third (both CBS and NBC had live sports in primetime, so there numbers will likely change some). FOX, 4.0/6, came in fourth, while The CW barely had a pulse at 0.6/1.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC's 5.0 rating beat out NBC's 4.6 for the top spot. CBS and FOX tied for third at 3.2, and The CW fell below the 1.0 barrier.

Late-ending NFL games and "60 Minutes" gave CBS a 9.9/17 at 7 p.m. The season premiere of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" drew a 5.8/10 on ABC. "Football Night in America," 4.3/8, put NBC in third, beating the 3.0/5 for a pair of "Simpsons" reruns on FOX. "CW Now" and "Online Nation" couldn't muster even a million viewers on The CW.

ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with the second hour of "EM: Home Edition," 8.6/13. An extended "60 Minutes" earned an 8.3/13 for CBS, just beating the 7.9/12 for the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles NFL matchup on NBC. "The Simpsons," 5.0/8, and "King of the Hill," 4.2/6, kept FOX in fourth. The CW went with a "Gossip Girl" rerun.

At 9 p.m., the season premiere of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" scored a 12.2/18, the night's best rating. NBC's "Sunday Night Football" posted an 8.7/13, edging CBS' "Cold Case," 8.6/13. FOX closed its night with "Family Guy," 4.9/7, and the season premiere of "American Dad," 3.9/6. The CW repeated Wednesday's episode of "America's Next Top Model."

"Brothers & Sisters" began its second season on ABC with a 9.1/15 at 10 p.m. The Giants-Eagles game on NBC scored an 8.0/13, beating "Shark," 7.5/13), on CBS.

Pushing Daisies got off to a very good start(12.8 million viewers, easily in 1st place), Private Practice dropped some, but WON the hour in Adults 18-49 and was 2nd overall behind Criminal Minds. DSM also dropped some, had a pretty bad half-hour drop, but beat Life handily in viewers and Adults 18-49. A lot of new shows who shall remain nameless are in far worse shape.

I really liked Pushing Daisies, Private Practice is decent but I'm still not sure if I like this show. DSM was AWESOME! Can't wait for next week.

Well, I finally got around to watching the first few episodes of "Private Practice," and really wasn't impressed. I don't like what they have done to Addison's character. Everything feels phony and forced. It's like they're trying too hard to make the show cutsy and funny. It doesn't work. I hardly recognized Addison. In Seattle she was a bit of an Ice princess at first, but then opened up and was this sexy, confident woman (and one of my favorites). Here she just seems ditzy to me......

And wow, how about that nut crawling around on the floor for hours mumbling and counting? Is this the best psychiatric problem they could come up with? What about birthing suites? I have never heard of this. I always thought most women go to the hospital to have their babies, like normal people. It's not like L.A. is on another planet. How convenient that the one patient Addison sees has life threatening complications. I thought this was all badly written and find it hard to believe that this came out of Shonda's brain.

I also don't get the combination of doctor's offices or the fact that there seems to be just one student nurse. Who works like that?

IMO, Addison should go back to Grey's, where she belongs. I really tried to give this show a fair chance, but even though it wasn't as bad as the pilot (and that's not saying much), it was just not believable or real, and did not touch me or involve me in any way at all.

On a positive note, I think Amy Brenneman is really good in this role. Maybe too good for the story lines they are giving her (but then so is Addison). I hope for the shows' sake, there's some changes being made.

- A special extended Grey's Anatomy episode will air for 67 minutes on Thursday, November 1, from 9:00-10:07pm.

- America’s Funniest Home Videos will be scheduled as half-hour telecasts on Sundays, November 4 and 11, 2007 (following NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series) in the 7:30 PM-ET/PT half-hour. In the East/Central we will see NASCAR in the 7/6 central half-hour (it starts about 3:30pm ET), out west will see another AFV half-hour at 7pm PT.

Women's Murder Club hit! HH rating 7.3/13, easily first in any timeslot. Looks like CBS only edged ABC for the nightly win by .1!

Men in Trees got a 4.9/9 at 10.

Wow! Women's Murder Club did excellent. A 7.3/13 would be good even on a regular right. They completely re-shot the pilot. I hated the original pilot, this one is a bit better. They made it more of a thriller than just a boring murder show.

I really liked WMC, to my surprise. I usually hate procedurals. I'll definitely be watching again.

Is it just me or is Private Practice not serialized at all so far? It seems like a procedural type. Pushing Daisies is even more serialized. Not that PP should be serialized like GA, but maybe since it is not serialized, repeats will do decent.

Serialized means there are continuing storylines like a soap opera(or like DH/Grey's), you can't miss an episode without missing something. I have noticed this as well with PP and I do think it will repeat a lot better.

Man... Desperate Housewives is ROCKING this year. The first three episodes have been amazing and particularly last night was HILARIOUS, the mystery is awesome, and the ratings went up.

A Special Edition of 20/20 “California Burning” is scheduled at 10:02 PM-ET/PT tonight. “Boston Legal” will return next week, with the episode that was going to air tonight.

ABC FLIPS 'TREES,' '20/20'; BOOKS WINTER PREMIERES

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC is bringing back "Notes from the Underbelly" and "October Road" in time for November sweeps while "Men in Trees" and "20/20" are getting new homes.

In addition, "Dancing With the Stars" spin-off "Dance War" is set to launch on Monday, January 7 at 8:00/7:00c as part of a revitalized Monday lineup.

Season two of "Road" will kick off on Thursday, November 22 at 10:00/9:00c following an all-new "Grey's Anatomy." The series will then settle into its regular Monday, 10:00/9:00c home on November 26.

"Samantha Who?" will also slide to 9:00/8:00c on November 26, making room for "Notes" at 9:30/8:30c.

Then in January, look for the aforementioned "Dance War" to assume the 8:00/7:00c hour. Various holiday specials will fill the slot in December.

Meanwhile, "Men in Trees" and "20/20" will trade time periods effective next week (November 2).

Well it was more that Men in Trees was botching it's lead-in. It can pull in the same numbers at 8pm and look a lot better, while 20/20 did suffer because it's always been at 10pm. This is a good change for both shows.

I am baffled at October Road premiering on Thanksgiving however. :lol:

ABC’s strategy of targeting women viewers with almost all its new prime-time shows this season is paying off so far. Five of those shows are producing solid women 18-49 ratings--including all three on Wednesday, where ABC is trying to become the first Big Three network in more than 25 years to successfully maintain three new shows on one night for an entire season.

ABC’s Wednesday lineup of freshmen—Pushing Daisies, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money—has cumulatively won the adults 18-49 demo race so far this season with the exception of last week, against Fox’s World Series telecast. The last time a Big Three net successfully aired an entire night of new shows through a whole season was NBC in 1982-83, with its Friday lineup of The Powers of Matthew Star, Knight Rider and Remington Steele. The last time a Big Three network accomplished it on a Wednesday was during the 1974-75 season, when NBC aired Little House on the Prairie, Lucas Tanner and Petrocelli.

ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson said he is planning to stay the course on Wednesdays, even when Fox’s American Idol returns in January.

“You can’t spend too much time worrying about Idol,” McPherson said. “Our plan going into the season was to launch a new night of programming on Wednesday and to establish a foothold there. We have done that, and we plan to keep those shows on that night…It’s a major accomplishment and more than we could have hoped for.”

(McPherson noted that if the lineup stays, it leaves ABC hit Lost as a “wildcard asset” that may end up being scheduled on another night when it returns in midseason.)

A good thing yes, but I feel like they are wasting a huge leading to support any other new shows like WMC or PD.

Mafia show page has a Wednesday Nov.28th date for it`s premiere tough...at 11pm! There is of course an error with the time, but maybe they are pre-empting DSM to lauch Mafia...

I don't know what the heck is wrong with ABC's website. It's been messed up like that for every show all week.

and as far as that time for Mafia goes... it has DSM this week airing Thursday at Midnight, so I think it's two hours ahead(meaning Wednesday Night at 10pm in reality), and that the website still has Mafia as airing that Tuesday at 10(hence Wednesday at Midnight) like the original plan was. Very confusing.

ABC handed out a full-season pickup to the comedy "Samantha Who?"

The back-nine order Tuesday morning followed a strong third showing for "Samantha" on Monday night when the comedy starring Christina Applegate scored its best rating to date -- 4.9/11 among adults 18-49.

With its strong start behind "Dancing With the Stars," "Samantha" solidified its position as the top-rated new comedy and as ABC's first breakout comedy hit in years.

The series, from ABC Studios, took a big step toward a full-season pickup last week, when it received an order for six additional scripts.

"Samantha," which stars Applegate as a woman with amnesia, joins ABC's dramas "Private Practice" and "Pushing Daisies," which also have full-season pickups.

I think Samantha Who is a pretty good show, and I watch it. I know a lot of people want to call it a hit already. We will not know that until it goes up at 9:00 against Two and Half Men without the DWTS lead in. If it does well then we can call it a hit, but not before then.

Promos for October Road and Notes from the Underbelly's new seasons start on Monday, with the "3 weeks from tonight" tag. You'll see both shows promoted on all three shows that night (DwtS, Samantha Who?, and The Bachelor).

Also, ABC is promoting the Rebecca Romijn episode of Carpoolers on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday a lot.

More proof Cashmera Mafia must be delayed because I don't see any promos listed this Tuesday for it, because it would have premiered three weeks from that date.

Thanks Pav. I was wondering when OR and NFTU promos would start. If the strike does indeed happen and go on for awhile(say until January/February), then they should hold Cashmere Mafia until then, and then it can maybe fill in for a show that runs out of originals??? My initial idea was to go after Grey's, but ONLY if Grey's has new episodes.

I haven't watched Women's Murder Club yet. Maybe I'll give it a try this week. I can't stand the Bachelor . . . I believe it's overstayed it's welcome about 2 years ago. Plus, when it starts taking place of Boston Legal, I hate it even more.

ABC Saves Cashmere Mafia Hit for Later

Let loose the ripple effects! One of the first tangible schedule tweaks resulting from the writers' strike finds ABC pushing back Cashmere Mafia — which was to debut Nov. 27 — until further notice (or, to be exact, a premiere date "TBA," says the network). The thinking, of course, is to hold such fresh inventory until the new year at least, when the current bank of scripted and produced programming begins to dry up.

Similarly, CBS has announced that Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, as wholly expected, will be in repeats effective immediately and (being optimistic, are we?) through Friday, Nov. 9.

I knew it! Cashmere is for sure a January or February thing now.

ABC has put a rerun of Kimmel on tonight, too. Though, Kimmel will try to make a new episode or two this week...by himself. He can do it, I think. He won't need writers. I can see it now, "who needs writers for awhile, we have Guillermo working as a Mexican sweatshop worker."

Great move! WMC gets extra exposure, and Cashmere gets held for a better time(Late November is the absolute worst time for a new show).

No new Jimmy tonight, so the eliminated star from DWTS will not be on it :(
