I know the Kramdens tried to adopt but why didn't they just write in that one of the couples had a child. It worked well in I Love Lucy.

The Kramdens had a lot more heated arguments than the Ricardos did though, could you imagine a child running around in that dingy apartment all day long, with a father threatening to send the mother to the moon? Ricky also had more money to support a child with...to quote Ralph, from an argument he once had with Alice, "I can barely afford you!"
