Do any episodes of the daytime 1976-1977 Don Ho show exist in the trading world? I remember watching this as a kid a few times when we had a snow day.Does anyone here remember that show?

I wonder if Jackie Gleason was the only actor who insisted on keeping a personal copy of all of his shows? What a gold mine!

...was "expendible" (as most network daytime series were) to ABC, and they really didn't bother saving the six months of daily shows taped [yes, only a handful of the earlier episodes exist]. I saw it...and if the network thought they were going to make Don into a new "Arthur Godfrey of the '70s", they were mistaken. He didn't have the personality to front a daily series- and the ratings finished him. There was also the sticky problem of affiliate clearance, as Don went on at 12 Noon(et)- most ABC stations aired local programming [newscasts in most areas] in that time period, and they wouldn't clear the time or even bother to present it on a delayed basis at another time of the day (very few did). So there were plenty of reasons why Ho's daily series was doomed from the start- and ABC never attempted another daily variety show again.

Jackie Gleason wasn't the only variety show host to insist on preserving virtually all of his shows for his personal archives, 'T-Greg'. Andy Williams saved almost all of his '60s and '70s tapes; Dinah Shore saved the majority of her "CHEVY SHOW" and the specials she starred in afterwards, as well as her daily syndicated "DINAH!" talk show; Lawrence Welk had the foresight to preserve his series, both ABC and syndicated, and they can still be seen on some public TV stations [in slightly edited form] today; Mike Douglas saved many of his daily syndicated shows that are now CBS/Viacom property {they got them when they bought out Westinghouse Broadcasting}. And "THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE" is preserved, in toto, for anyone who wants to see them again....

Don't forget Johnny Carson productions, they have a good chunk of his shows as well, in fact I'm working with them right now because I have footage they do not have.

As for Mike Douglas, the rights to the show are split in some cases, Mike (well those that run his estate) owns a good chunk of shows and those shows we are reviewing for a DVD release later this year, not the material CBS/Viacom has.

Also I work with CBS/Viacom all the time as I have footage of the show as well as many other shows they do not have in the archives and in many cases they pay me for the footage which is nice or send me material in exchange.

Dina Shore is another property we'll be looking at in the future....
