Son decapitates mother with circular saw, Dies trying to cut off his own head.

Arthur Ruiz Jr. cut his 60-year-old mother's head off with a circular saw early yesterday and then died while trying to saw through his neck, according to police in La Habra, Calif.

"The decapitated body of Guadalupe Ruiz lay on a bed. Arthur Ruiz's body was on a nearby bed and had sustained severe trauma to the neck," The Orange County Register reports.

The door was locked and the circular saw was next to the 32-year-old son, according to the paper. KTLA-TV says the motive remains unknown.

The story ends with the cliche that we've come to expect in stories of this nature: "Everyone in that house seemed really nice, and they kept to themselves," a neighbor tells the Register.

I heard abt that on the news myself. Being that I am here in Southern Calif.

I can't help but smirk when I read "he died trying to cut off his own head"...isn't that the end result he wanted?

No offense Zone Boy, but could you tone down on all the gruesome stories? Chit Chat is slowly becoming Globe Magazine or Chiller Chat.

No offense taken but are there rules about posting stuff of this nature? Chit Chat is the only logical place for it and it's probably a safe bet that if I didn't post it, Someone would have eventually. If you prefer, I can stop posting stuff like this entirely but if I'm gonna stop, I think it's only fair that all others do so as well.

No disrespect to you, Brian but I hardly think it's fair for one moderator to ask me to tone down. If the other moderators, administrators and board members have a problem with it then I'm willing to comply with what you've said. I might also suggest that the chit chat board be monitored like the trading post and only those topics that meet approval be posted after review.

Personally, I think the thread titles on Chit Chat are becoming more and more gruesome. There's always been those sorts and stories here and there, but lately, it's one ghastly story after another, lots of them involving children. I think it cheapens the site myself.

It's not for me or anyone else to decide what to do about it, if anything. It's up to TJ. I've suggested one thread where these tabloid type stories could go. TJ may think there's no a problem. What he says, goes.

Fair enough and If anyone has been offended by any topics that I've started, I sincerely apologize and a separate thread for these is a very good idea.

Again, I mean no disrespect to you. I wasn't trying to tell you what to do, I just wish all these murder stories could be toned down a little.

I wish there were no murders occurring...that would help. :(

No problem and maybe you're right. Sometimes I post without thinking and I certainly don't want to do anything that might hurt or offend anyone.

I saw a website once that had some really wild, and often gruesome news stories. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the site. No matter, but maybe a thread for the truly ghastly crimes? Show of hands please? Any suggestions for a thread title?

That way, anyone who doesn't like reading about heads being sawed off with their morning coffee, lol, can avoid the thread.

Good idea, bad idea, other ideas??

I NEED FEEDBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about Chit Chat - Tabloid stories or something like that? There was one that was suggested to me by another member a few weeks ago called Zoneboy's Hall of Shame.

"In the Zone"

That would be cool, but others will be posting in it as well. I'm thinking more along the lines of....a real attention grabber.

I think Lex had some good ones, I'd also like to suggest:

Tabloid Talk

Wild and Weird

News of the Weird would be good but unfortunately it's also the name of a website and syndicated column so that probably won't do. :(

I can't come up with anything better but perhaps someone else can. :)

I think you're thinking of rotten.com Jan - man it's gross (but I have to admit, some of the stuff interests me because of my love of "forensics" )
There's another one too, but I can't think of it's name offhand - it's even sicker! I've never gone there myself, I just can't stomach that one.

How 'bout a whole new SO section entitled "THE GRUESOME GAZETTE"
That way any sick news (hey folks - within some boundries!) can be posted there. You could even have it like the politics board where you need to Ask The Gatekeeper to letchya in! ;)

How abt: NEWS OF THE WEIRD: (Open at your own discretion) just a suggestion. I liked the ones Lex offered also.

I can take gruesome threads, I have always been like that. I love to watch HBO's autopsy. Thanx Janice for trying to give this kind of stuff a place of its own.

Zoneboy, please tone it down with the gruesome threads and titles. This goes for everybody who has been posting them.

I don't think there's a need for a whole new board. Maybe there could be one thread with all tabloid-type stories.

Ok, TJ. but of the 190 threads that I've started on this board, This is the only one that I would call gruesome. There may be others that fall on the borderline but this one definitely is. I'd be interested in knowing the others that could be considered gruesome if you or anyone else care to review them.

If indeed there was a separate board with these kinds of news items, it could be called Gory Stories. It's a simple, right to the point title.

How about we just save these stories for Rotten.com and leave it at that?

i kind of agree with you...i really don't think stories like "Boy Removes Sister's Organs With Play-Doh" are really that important that they NEED to be posted, al they do is gross people out and they're depressing. i don't get why there's 289123808901230193 of them a day..

i really don't think a new board is in order, because i don't think these topics are really that important that everyone needs to hear about them.

You and TJ are obviously on the same wavelength because he just E-mailed me and basically told me to cease and desist with starting these types of threads in Chit Chat. He was firm but fair and he did remind me of some others that were not appropriate so with that in mind, I will comply with what he said.

After getting TJ's perspective on those types of gory stories, it's probably best to forgo even a separate thread for them. There's no place for them on this site at all.
