Remember the one where Hawkeye's father was in the hospital but only Charles knew? Charles was kind to Hawkeye; I think when he let his guard down, he also lost his Boston accent!
Anyone?

This ep was lousy as for the rest of the show Charles fails to really better mutually bond with Hawk due to their shared experience. Someone at alt.tv.mash (find it at deja.com) thought up the idea maybe Charles was slightly drunk with his french wine when he said all that to Hawk about having a father when Pierce had a daddy and given the way Charles is never really close mutually to Pierce after this adventure french wine is a good explanation the writers of Mash never came up with themselves. I watched this ep this morning again, Charles's caring about Hawk came out of absolutely nowhere. Having just had one single French drink is the best explanation (if you think of the show being like reallife) for why Charles does it. The writers did have Hawk say that Charles never showed this side before but it was still uneven. Remember too that Hawk's whole speech about mom being dead clashes with him saying (in the pilot to Mash) how HoJohn could stay with his (Hawk's) folks too. But that is another problem. Mikado 06-28-2007, 10:35 PM Hmmm......Continuity problems in M*A*S*H?   Thats a whole thread in itself......I think a lot of it stems from the fact that they transposed Hawkeye and Trappers personalities compared to those in the books ( In the books, and movie, Hawkeye is a fairly conservative married man, while Trapper is the crazy, anti-establishment bachelor ) treky 06-29-2007, 03:02 AM MASH isn't the only show that has a lot of inconsitosies. THE ODD COUPLE has TONS of them!!!!! |
