waichingliu81 05-06-2007, 07:21 AM what about an idea or concept from a sitcom you are familiar with, but with the roles reversed?
JulieSomoski 05-06-2007, 11:22 AM Broadcasting My Life
30-minute Multicamera Sitcom
--------------------
Synopsis: A reporter from New York City gets a job as a coanchor for an evening News Program, but has to deal with her familly always getting in the way, plus the idea of having a baby.
During the third season, she gets pregnant with her boyfriend, and has the baby at the end of the third season. The fourth through eighth seasons would shift the focus on her baby and her coworkers/friends helping her raise it, still trying to get the hottest interviews, which is the hardest part.

Here's a few sitcom titles that I created a few weeks ago on another thread. Let me know what you think.
THE AMAZING GRACE
A group of nuns race around the world for large cash prizes to see who will be the first one to break all of the Ten Commandments. Hosted by Sally Field.
RAY'S ANATOMY
Ray Romano stars as a doctor who just can't seem to score with his nurses, no matter how hard he tries.
TOAST WHISPERER
Jennifer Love Hewitt finds out that she can communicate with evil spirits who are trapped inside her toaster.
SEAL OR NO SEAL
Howie Mandel gets a job working at Marineland.
Mid-season replacements:
SURVIVOR: BUFFALO
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A SUPERMODEL?
HOW I MET YOUR PROCTOLOGIST
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I dare the networks to come up with better stuff than this. I'm still waiting.
Dynomite 05-06-2007, 03:48 PM How about this one!
Crystal-This centers on Crystal Speegle, R.N., a St. Louis pediatric nurse and matriarch to her teen nephew, Eugene, a high school junior, who also plays baseball, and her two nieces, Ashley, a musically talented high school senior and Marsha, a high school freshman, who's primarily involved in school plays(Eugene, Marsha and Ashley are siblings). The teens' uncle is the family patriarch, Clint Speegle, a full-time city mail carrier. Crystal is a level-headed, keep-it-together aunt, while Clint is a bunglesome and sometimes overly ambitious uncle, who has a tendency to fix things, himself instead of calling for help when needed. Nonetheless, as far as Crystal and Clint are concerned, aside from their respective professions and typical household chores, their nieces and nephew come first and foremost(the teens' parents are Clint's deceased half-brother Randy and Randy's wife, Laura, who's also deceased). Clint's catch phrase after he catches some sarcastic criticism from Crystal after a goof-up is, "Thanks, Crystal! I didn't need that!" Other characters include the neighbors, Jake Reinhold(a family court baliff, who's in the Lions club with Clint) and his wife, New York-born Carla Reinhold(a caterer and Crystal's friend since college).
characters:
Crystal Speegle, R.N.(pediatric nurse)
Clint Speegle(city mail carrier)
Ashley Speegle(Crystal and Clint's eldest niece)
Eugene Speegle(Ashley's brother)
Marsha Speegle(Ashley and Eugene's sister)
Jake Reinhold(Speegle's neighbor)
Carla Reinhold(Jake's wife)
The sitcom would be set in an undisclosed neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. Since this thread is about creating your own sitcom, I figured why not create one set in St. Louis. Now, for anyone who likes this concept, I'll give you the opportunity to make a cast. Otherwise, come up with another sitcom idea of your own.
Episode ideas:
1. This is my Family(Crystal tells of her nephew, nieces' arrival)
2. Low Maintenance(Clint tries to clean chimney, rather than call his cousin, Donny, a professional chimney cleaner)
3. Insominiac(Clint spooks the house by getting a late-night snack, when there's a burglar in the neighborhood)
4. Ashley's dating a Finnegan(H.S. Football player, Byron Finnegan)
5. Meet Max Weitzman(Restauranteur Hank Weitzman's son)
6. Erin's Wedding(Crystal's sister, Lt. Erin Allen from Ft. Knox)
7. Marsha's Halloween Play(Marsha participates in a school play)
8. Crystal's Not So Great Homecoming(She defends Clint after some old schoolmates call him a "freak")
9. Aunt Elinor's Visit(Crystal's mother, Elinor Allen visits)
10. Day at the Retirement Community(Uncle Tom Allen and friends)
11. First Class Nuissance
12. Thanksgiving at the Speegles
13. Eugene's Girlfriend(H.S. Softball player, Helen Jerome)
14. Skiing in the Ozarks(Ski resort)
15. Christmas at the Speegles
16. Talent Show at Hank's Tavern(Hank's Family Food and Grill)
17. Jury Duty(Clint is on Jury Duty)
18. Crystal's Day Off(Clint takes over household chores)
19. Uncle Clint, the Clown(Lions' conv. with fathers, sons, uncles & nephews)
20. Marsha's Driving Lesson(Uncle Clint's the instructor)
21. Ashley's Duet(Ashley dating a fellow H.S. senior in a boy band)
22. Bully for Eugene(The bullies are Joey and Chad)
23. Ashley's College Admission(She's admitted to Univ. of St. Louis)
24. Camping with Grandma Speegle(Nancy Speegle, Clint's mother)
JulieSomoski 05-06-2007, 04:04 PM I like all these ideas. All 3 are better than some of the shows already on television. If only we could pitch them to the networks . . .

waichingliu81 08-19-2010, 11:13 AM BACK TO MY ROOTS - i came up with this title as the theme of the show was set in a hairdressing salon and roots is associated to well, hair!
full cast:
michael urie- ugly betty
becki newton - ugly betty, love bites
alfonso ribeiro fresh prince of bel air
kim wayans- in living color
kim coles- living single
debbie allen- fame, in the house
judy reyes -scrubs
tamera mowry- sister sister
bernadette stanis- good times
patti lapone - of gypsy fame
created by waiching liu
produced by debbie allen
1 hour sitcom
airs on (either) NBC and/or CW network at 7/8pm EST
plot synopsis:
lead character played by michael urie, applies for and gets a job as a hair stylist at a women's beauty salon run by the owner as played by debbie allen, after seeing an ad in the local paper.... yet it, as well as nobody told him it was predominanetly run in a down town african-american suburb of L.A. his hometown.
the remaining cast members all play as existing employees of the salon.
along the way, he tries to assimilate himself into the culture, wins the respect of his co-workers and learns more about it and the people he works with, and for his fellow employees to learn more about him. as well for him to find romance, which later on turns out be becki newtons' character.
other details
the show is set in the workplace- hence, a beauty parlour. characters are seen cutting, washing, blow-drying hair, grooming, filing women's nails, giving pedicures etc.
given the casting choices, this will potentially attract more black audiences although the demographics of my show would be 18- 45 ish and female. even though my target audience for this show is for everyone of every race of all ages.
the show also looks at the idea of cultural differences- what with michael's character being white & also judy reyes's role as the lone black latina- but also as to how those differences through these characters, manage to gel them and bring them together like a family.
unlike other sitcoms which focuses on or has the token 'ethnic' person in a white, mainstream environment/sitcom, in this instance, the white character played by michael urie is the one who is having to adapt to working life and earning the trust and respect of those around him.
total episodes for each season- 20 maximum
MrCleveland 08-20-2010, 07:08 PM Can the sitcom be animated?
If so...Mine's called "Bertstown". It's about a down and out boy named James Paul Warner who lives with his parents, has two crappy jobs, rides the bus, has no relationship with a girl, goes to a Community College, and hangs around with...if Adult Swim picks this show up, is animated, and I get the permission from the Hanna-Barbera Library...James Paul Warner would hang around with Loopy de Loop.
If not...It's still called "Bertstown", It's a Cleveland suburb rather than a city, James Paul Warner moves there and lives with his 1/2 brother John Paul Warner and his grandparents, has one job, and has two cartoon characters that he's inspired by...Loopy de Loop (acts very kind and generous, does what the good book says, and always helps out) and Donald Duck (won't take **** when pushed around one too many times).
