Those LONG ass commercials I ended up dosing off and the last thing I saw was FLO saying to Alice that finding a $1 on the street is no different than $40,000 on the street because you can say you walked down 40,000 streets-LOL Who's money was it?

The old, supposedly poor lady Mel gave a free breakfast to everyday, played by Florence Halop who shows up looking for her bag of moolah.

Alice says if it was a dollar a day, it'd have been a lot. $5,475 to be exact. She's basically a freeloader. After Alice threatens that she'll tell every store about her, she pays him. How can she afford all this money? Alimony.

Mel can buy the new refrigerator, and Alice gets the raise. The lady comes back though, she was sick Columbus Day 1968, so she took a dollar back.

He needed to give all the ladies a raise, not just Alice. You don't ask your boss for a raise by telling him you have a kid who needs this or that. You ask your boss for a raise by telling him/her you have done exceptional work, you have worked for so many months blah blah blah...That was ludicrous. Flo and Vera don't have kids, so they aren't able to use the old "my kid needs this" excuse. You get a raise when you deserve it.

Irene are so RIGHT-lol I plan to ask my Boss for a Raise in July and will do it in a professional way and show what I have done for the Organization in the last year. even though I could use a raise because of my RENT INCREASE, why the hell would I tell my boss that?-LOL Damm why didn't I think of starting a thread about that

lol, no, that was the total amount of money he got. Out of some of it he assumingly bought the refrigerator and gave Alice the raise she needed.

the lady came back for the money
only a dollar. she said she was sick Columbus Day 1968, so she took a dollar back because she paid what would have been one dollar per day.

I don't know Solomon, I think you are making too many threads abt the NBA finals and forgetting your touch on the sitcom boards.

But it was so stupid for Alice to do that. And she didn't hide it either from Flo or Vera who should have said something abt how no one should get a raise simply because they have a kid. Flo and Vera had been there a lot longer than Alice.

You're right. And to my understanding, Flo and Vera had more seniority than Alice. They were loyal and hard workers themselves. Tommy was a good kid and deserved a lot more than what he was living in, Alice did her best. But what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

10 dollars is a pretty big raise...especially for the 70's.

Got that right Brian!

Alice had said ten dollars a week was what she was hoping to receive. At this point in the show they were making abt $3 an hour, right?

I am not sure what they were making per hour, but I know it was the tips that were keeping them afloat.

Ok, with that figure it comes out to $21.60 a day GROSS. You figure she works at least 8 hours a day.

Weekly, she earns $108 a week GROSS.

So, I figure she was asking Mel for 40 cents an hour raise...is that correct?
