I would like to thank everyone who kept my dog Duke in their thoughts and prayers over the last month. Sadly, I had to have Duke put to sleep yesterday. :( He had just gotten far too sick. Yesterday afternoon he collapsed in the ketchen and fell down onto his side and was unable to get back up. I carried him out to the car and and my mom and I took him to the vet. The doctor said that he infact did have a tumor in his liver and that he was never going to get better. She didn't even think he would make it through the night. This being the case I had no choice but to have him put to sleep. Thank you all for keeping Duke in your thoughts. I really miss him. :( It is like a part of me died with him.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Duke. He is no longer in pain. You will indeed see him again, though I know this is a tough time. He knows you are sad, but he doesn't want you to suffer either. He will always be watching you. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers and remember, your friends at S.O. are always here for you.

This being the case I had no choice but to have him put to sleep. Thank you all for keeping Duke in your thoughts. I really miss him. :( It is like a part of me died with him. Do NOT name your next pet Buttons, my sister named like 5 of her cats like that and well, each one of them died before they were suppose to....i was only old enough to remember the last 2 that died, and she wont tell me how the others died....the first one i remember died because she jumped out of the truck when we were bringing her to the vet...(dont think we had a carrier then, the person driving behind us pulled up beside us and told my dad) The newest and last one she had died a few years ago and it died of cancer. (And it seems as if the 2 i remember were real mean cats, even though we probably got them at my grandpas, wild cats just ponder upon his house and he keeps them, lol) - When the last one got sick he was real nice.....but i think one reason they were so mean compared to mine and my brothers is because she didnt ever take them out of the pen...And my cat use to be real nice and always lick you non stop...now he is kinda mean, which is my fault....because i cant communicate a language to him so it makes me mad when he does something i dont want him to do, lol....my brothers cat is like a non stop meower, just like that cat on south park episode, i think my brothers cat might be mentally ********... and also my cat was in my brothers dog mouth 2 times, once when he was a baby, and both times he scratched him on the nose and forhead and made him bleed, then he got free, it almost happened a third time a year or 2 ago, lol. Also my cat and my sisters last cat got in a fight, my cat scratched its head bald and you could see the bone, it was sick....i was mad a my cat and shot him with a shotgun, and he was dead....lol im joking about the shotgun part :P But the time my cat and my sisters fought it was the time when sisters cat got sick....my sisters cat and mine kinda faught to see who would be king of the cats....and my brothers cat and mine are brothers....I know this is probably hard to read, but oh well, lol.

I'm really sorry to hear about Duke passing Mike!! :( It sounds like he lived a nice long life though, and it's obvious that he had a good owner, who gave him lots of love in his 14 years on this Earth. May he rest in peace!!

My condolences,

It is very hard to lose a pet when they have become a member of the family. It is even harder when you have to make the decision to end their suffering, when I put my cats down after 10 years it was incredibly hard and I felt like I gave up on her.

I know it was the best to end the suffering but it is extremely difficult to make that decision. You did the hard thing but the right thing.

RIP Duke

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear this. :( When I saw this thread I felt really bad for you. I'm sorry that you had to put Duke to sleep. I know how hard losing a pet is. I can't say I've completely gotten over the death of the two dogs my family had one from 1985-2000 and the other from 1991-1999. While it may never get easy to accept the loss of a pet, it will get easier over time. Take care, and remember I'm only a pm away. I can't access e-mail right now, but I can get pm's.

I'm so sorry, Mike, to hear about Duke.

I have a dog, named Tala, who's 12 years old, and is beginning to slow down; I know I will have to face that inevitable day at one point as well, and I dread it.

Just know that I feel very sad for your loss.

I just saw your thread, Mike, and I am so sorry about Duke. I know what you're going through, I lost 2 of my dogs in the past few years. Some people might think 'it's just a dog' but we know they are so much more. Take comfort that you gave him a great life and now he is out of pain.:(

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I went through the same thing a couple of years ago with mine. It's a shame they don't live longer.
