I first saw "Cavender Is Coming" on a local (to me) indie station when I was a teenager, roughly 30 yrs ago now. I thought it was strange because it had a laugh track at the time. When I have seen it since, the laugh track is no longer there, both on SciFi and on the DVD set. Zicree's book states that the comedy is written really badly, although Carol Burnett and Jesse White try their best with it. This ep was written by Serling himself, so maybe Serling was a frustrated comedian who was stuck in drama because he wrote drama best.

I may be in the minority, but I didn't care for it.Carol Burnett ,and Jesse White(who was much better in "The Twilight Zone"episode "Once Upon a Time")tried hard, but this one wasn't my cup of tea .Marc Scott Zicree writer of "The Twilight Zone Companion, called it,appropriately,"Cadaver is Coming".Earlier,Rod Serling did an episode called "Mr.Bevis",with Orson Bean as Mr.Bevis and Henry Jones as his guardian angel,J.Hardy Hempstead, which was FAR better ,in my opinion, than "Cavender is Coming".

I can assure you that you are in the majority not the minority when it comes to disliking this episode.
