Especially coming from the waitresses. I mean, Mel was the man, he looked out for the women when he had to, and he was their boss and really a nice guy. So I think they could have eased up uon the bad food jokes and showed Mel a little bit more respect.

I happen to agree with you. It seems that there was at least one food joke in every single episode. It could get a bit redundant at times.

He even insulted his own food himself once in awhile. On "Take Him, He's Yours", he ducks out to check on Tommy, but says he's picking up food for the poker game. One of the girls (Flo?) asks why doesn't he just bring food from the diner, he replys "These are my friends!"

Also, realize that New Jersey-wise Alice and fun-lovin' gal Flo are the types who can also insult from the heart. Sort of like "teasing the ones you love".

I know the teasing wasn't really mean spirited, but it just got old...sort of like Mel's Chili. ;)
