In the time capsule ep I believe it was they had the very good fake grenade scene and both made the scene very well. Mash was so well written and directed the actors often performed expertly (better than maybe they would ordinarily).

I kinda wish they had developed Rizzo a bit more. I mean, we def. didn't need anymore main characters I suppose, but that character always made me laugh...

Had the show lasted one more year Bailey's name probably would have been in the opening credits. His Rizzo was getting significant and mutually linked with Charles alot. Back to my original point they both made that scene with the grenade work.

I always loved when Rizzo would talk about his son back home in Louisiana - little Billy Bubba!!

If anyone doesn't believe G.W. Bailey is a worthy actor, just watch him in The Closer and compare it to his portrayal of Rizzo.

Rizzo's character was great.

I think there was room, with Radar gone and all.

All they did was move Klinger up as sort of a co. clerk replacement.

Who replaced Klinger's old spot?

Rizzo would have worked well.

BTW, I saw what I thought was the actor who played Rizzo in a St. Elsewhere rerun on cable the other night. The role was a straight role and nothing comic or anything at all like the actor's MASH character.

Don't forget G.W. Bailey was also the cantankerous and obnoxious Capt. Harris in the Police Academy movies in addition to portraying Sgt. Luther Rizzo on M*A*S*H.

Yes, you thought right. G.W. Bailey played Dr. Hugh Beale, the staff psychiatrist from Gulfport, MS. He does very well in a non-comedic role.

I agree, I would have liked Rizzo to become a regular character.
