I like it too! I was so excited I posted this before I realized someone else on the Bewitched board beat me to the punch. I had a feeling the cover would be yellow this time, as we've already had blue, purple, red and green. This season we get Dick York's final eps as well as Jonathan Harris' (aka Dr. Smith from Lost in Space) guest turn as a cranky piano teacher.
Well this is certainly good news!
1960'sTVfan 07-30-2015, 03:12 PM I finally got around to buying the season 5 DVD, found a great deal on Amazon, new/sealed for $10.48 including shipping. Now I have all the seasons except season 8.
1960'sTVfan 08-01-2015, 01:24 PM I wish they would have kept the original orange color box design for the season 5 DVD. Someone at Sony must have objected to it. They ended up going with a aqua/blue color, not good, it looks too close to the season 1 color.

I agree, but then I was never really pleased with the artwork Sony did on this show. S4 was dreadful. I never liked that pic of Liz from the 'weiner dog' photo session. She had just had a baby and looked rather tired and the image used doesn't even resemble her. And why did they deem it necessary to thicken her hairdo on the S8 box to this big lion's mane when the original pic was just fine? They didn't use the proper season pics for the earlier releases either (S1 used a S5 pic; S2 used a S1 pic; S3 used a S5 pic---sloppy work!).

True. Well at least Sony did a good job putting the episodes to DVD. As far as I know, there are very few, if any, edits in the episodes.
But damn, I didn't know the season 8 DVD was so rare and expensive. There are currently a limited number of sets for sale on Amazon, cheapest I could find there is used for $80.99! New/sealed sets are priced over 100 bucks!  I found just one set for sale on eBay, priced at $64.95, that's the one I purchased. Well, at least I found a great deal for season 5.
Why is the season 8 DVD so rare? Were sales of the series declining, and Sony produced a limited number of season 8 sets? I think the 7th season DVD is also rare and pricey.
Kasey 08-04-2015, 12:13 PM I had no idea S8 was going for such extravagant prices. I bought all my sets on release day so have no reason to check such things.
As far as Sony doing a good job, they omitted the original opening themes on Seasons 2-5 and there were next to no Bonus Features when many things are out there they could have included. I was not impressed with their treatment of BW. Here's hoping a BluRay set would be an improvement.

For me, I see the opening credits thing as a minor issue. Bonus Features aren't really important for me either. What I look for most is uncut episodes. With the exception of a couple season 3 episodes, Sony put uncut episodes on the DVD's. So in my opinion they did a good job. Sony gave Bewitched better treatment on DVD compared to I Dream Of Jeannie. Not saying the Jeannie DVD's are bad, but they have a few issues, mainly seasons 3, 4, and 5.
BigManMike 08-04-2015, 01:02 PM Season 8 is currently out of print. Sony released the show a while back and so all the Sony releases are out of print. Mill Creek is re releasing the show and has so far rereleased Seasons 1-6. On October 6, Mill Creek is re releasing the complete series so I don't know when they plan to release Seasons 7 and 8 individually.

I prefer to have the Sony releases, I don't care for the Mill Creek reissues. I should have bought season 8 from Sony when it first came out, I paid a little more for it now than I would have preferred to, but it's OK. Season 8 will complete my collection of the Sony releases.
