USATVFAN 04-23-2007, 09:25 AM Which Tv Dad Do You Prefer Phillip Bank From The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Or Carl Winslow From Family Matters GARFIELDKOOL 04-23-2007, 10:19 AM I will take Carl Winslow. He seemed more fun and had more personality than snobby, upitty Phillip Banks. Did you see that episode where James Avery walked on the set of Family Matters at the end? Classicshowsgurl15 04-23-2007, 06:26 PM Carl Winslow because he was a great father and Phillip seemed a little to harsh to the kids. Ant-Lox 04-24-2007, 12:19 AM Carl seemed more like a fmaily man. Phillip seemed more interested in his carrer, I'd take Carl over Phil. freshprinceofLA 04-24-2007, 12:23 AM Carl seemed more laid back & relaxed than Phil. Phil most of the time was mad. The Erkel & Carl moments were just gold. Carl is my pick. MikeLutton 04-24-2007, 12:34 AM wonder what would happen if steve urkel appeared on fresh prince of bel air for some episodes can u see phil and urkel working on inventions lol Scoobiedoo30 04-24-2007, 12:54 AM :trio Carl Winslow Buffyboy323 04-24-2007, 09:04 AM Carl Winslow!....He was really fun. And a really good family man. Not to mention he was really funny and over the top, at times....I also liked that he could be funny, mad, nice, a little mean, and silly all in one episode. To me, Philip had these qualities too, but it wasn't the same. He seemed too 1 dimensional (sp?) to me. comedyfreak 04-24-2007, 11:41 AM I liked Carl Winslow better he seemed more down to earth and someone you could go to if you needed to talk about something. catlover79 12-13-2008, 03:43 AM Carl! MrRetro_08 12-13-2008, 06:45 AM Phillip Banks, only because I've never watched Family Matters. James 12-14-2008, 09:03 PM Carl Winslow, partly because I've never watched Fresh Prince. GARFIELDKOOL 12-14-2008, 09:06 PM Carl Winslow was way more likable than Phillip Banks. Phillip banks was unapproachable, he put his career before his family, and had snobs for children in Hilary and Carlton. At least he had a wife to put him in check and remind him of his roots. MikeLutton 12-14-2008, 10:31 PM yeah care winslow for me 2 he was lot more tourlente to steve urkel then phil banks would of been Wreckless 12-14-2008, 10:40 PM Uncle Phil lol aka (Judge) Phillip Banks aka Big Guy aka Zeek or h/e you spell it lol...Carl was a more humble and fun guy, but Uncle Phil always had his kids back, whether it was a good decision to have. He wasn't their friend, and instead their dad. That goes for Carlton, Ashley, Hilary, I guess Baby Nicky and definitely Will as well. Good question & thread though. Wreckless 12-14-2008, 10:42 PM Carl Winslow was way more likable than Phillip Banks. Phillip banks was unapproachable, he put his career before his family, and had snobs for children in Hilary and Carlton. At least he had a wife to put him in check and remind him of his roots. That's true. The first Vivian, Janet Hubert Whitten was much better, they fit better together as far as chemistry on set goes and I enjoyed the first mom with Phil and in general, better, then Daphne Maxwell Reid. The first wife reminded Phil of who he was inside, and DMR on set was just a snob and cared only about herself, in my mind. She was a kind woman off set though, I'm just talking as far as a couple and if they fit each other or not. Wreckless 12-14-2008, 10:43 PM Wow, it's a lanslide lol. 82% for Mr. Carl, and only 18 for Moose LOL. MikeLutton 12-14-2008, 10:51 PM i also liked the chemestry between carl n harriett they had great chemisty together she also had a come back for carl when they fought or anything. GARFIELDKOOL 12-14-2008, 10:54 PM That's true. Wreckless 12-14-2008, 11:05 PM I still would like to know why the first Vivian left. I can explain it to you but it's a long story lol. I'll shorten it up a bit. Since Will was the star of the show and the premises all around for it, producers and Quincy Jones gave him full control. People had to listen to this 21/22 year old kid and Janet, the first Vivian didn't get along with him. It was an on and off relationship between the two stars off screen. Janet explained it in a few interviews. She said she enjoyed the show, was ok with her role but said she didn't make that much as the rich Vivian Banks did or had on the show. She said, it's easier to act as a rich woman, when in real life, even as an actor or actress you might not be as rich, and that was her case. Janet said Will, because of their turmoil relationship, would get into arguments with her, and the same with her and him. She had a 10/15 episode contract the first season or two, because she wasn't (considered) a main character like Alfonso, Will, James or even the 2 girls were. Basically, when she was pregnant, after the end of Season 2 (when it aired and after they were finished taping it live), her contract changed and she was upset (I guess rightfully so). She disagreed with her role and didn't understand even though Will was the star of the show, why any 21 year old was making decisive decisions for everybody. So it was a mix of that and their disagreements off stage that got her filed. A couple lawsuits, disagreements and hard feelings later, she never returned, only in a clip show in Season 6 and they never got the situation fixed. That's basically it. GARFIELDKOOL 12-14-2008, 11:07 PM That sounds a little petty on her part. After all, she wasn't the star of the show. dakert 12-14-2008, 11:08 PM Basically: fun Dad Carl, More serious Dad Phillip Wreckless 12-14-2008, 11:10 PM That is true. I think Will shouldn't make EVERY decision, even backstage on producers parts. He was only 21 and a kid at the time- 1990 lol. I don't know her personality or behind the scenes but I think the situation was a misunderstanding and just kept getting worse, as they didn't make up or see eye at eye. I wish they would have, because I loved Janet's character, and didn't enjoy the second Vivian at all. Just like I wish they made 4-5 more seasons of that show, it would of worked too. Jonathan 12-14-2008, 11:45 PM I think Carl, but I really like them both. :D catlover79 12-15-2008, 12:29 AM yeah care winslow for me 2 he was lot more tourlente to steve urkel then phil banks would of been Gosh, can you even imagine Phil having to deal with Urkel??  jehobden 12-19-2008, 06:33 PM Phillip Banks was more serious and dignified, but then he didn't have Urkel hanging around his house. Now THAT would've made for quite a crossover episode! :D catlover79 12-19-2008, 07:18 PM ^ I would've watched it!! Lee 12-19-2008, 10:43 PM Carl Winslow dawsongirl 12-19-2008, 11:42 PM Carl. All those ABC dads were always full of good advice for their kids. Carlton and Urkel... There would have been a pair. Wreckless 12-19-2008, 11:55 PM Carl had more patience to deal with annoying ass Urkel, yet Will was immature as a character on the show when it started, so Uncle Phil had to shape him out as well. catlover79 12-20-2008, 12:31 AM Carl. All those ABC dads were always full of good advice for their kids. Carlton and Urkel... There would have been a pair. Finally, Carlton would've met the only person in the world nerdier than him. howierules86 12-20-2008, 08:58 AM I voted for Carl Winslow because I watched Family Matters more than Fresh Prince (in their original runs). |
