In response to whether Desi and Vivian flirted, I don't see it. Of course, flirting is different from doing.

In my opinon, some of the best chemistry on the show was between Lucy and Fred. They were not in love, but the scenes between them were numerous and real. Fred was grumpy and cut Lucy down and she always made fun of his appearance and age, but the pair made for some memorable moments. It was as if she were his daughter. Ricky and Ethel had more of a "wall" between them and had a "polite" relationship. Ethel would never talk to Ricky like Lucy did to Fred.

Remember Lucy and Fred on the Staten Island Ferry? And what about the "Christmas Show?" Fred says, "I've been putting up trees for that kid for the last 15 years." He was very fatherly and caring (in his own way). She was able to rope him in to her schemes. He also helped her with songs and dances.

Of course, things on screen are different from real life. Some things are suppressed to hide other things, but I really don't sense that there was anything between Desi and Vivian.

I think Lucy saw Fred (William Frawley) as a father figure. I think. However, Ethel didn't seem to think so when she caught Lucy with her arms in and around Fred in the episode abt the train tickets back to New York.

Is that the one where Lucy was giving Fred a "massage?" I thought it was so funny that Ethel would think that someone would steal her man, especially since she was so willing to give him away! Deep down, she loved her "Freddy."

Yep. You are right. Ethel did say a few times that she loved her fat ol' Freddy. Especially when they were mad at each other.

The "Staten Island Ferry" episode is the one that comes to mind when I think about your comment. That's the one I feel that best shows the chemistry that they had with each other. Not the romantic kind but more the father/daughter type. :)
