Robert Rodriguez announced a feature length Machete movie, based on the popular fake Grindhouse trailer.

“When I started doing the trailer and as soon as we started showing it to people they said we want to see this movie. Bob Weinstein even said that ‘I want to see that movie.’ So I thought we would probably make it then. If audiences respond to it the way I think they might then I think we’ll make it.”

The Sin City director previously revealed that a Machete screenplay is completely finished, and Danny Trejo is very excited to start filming

And when can we expect MACHETE? The movie would be filmed at the same time as Sin City 2 (tentatively set for early Summer 2007):

Considering the way Grindhouse tanked, I am surprised the Weinsteins would want to see Rodriguez do another movie in the same genre.

I heard that he filmed about 40 minutes of footage when he made the trailer and that it's gonna be released as a special feature on the dvd or as a separate dvd movie.

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino will still produce a Grindhouse spin-off--despite the film's poor performance at the U.S. box office.

The double-bill movie has been spilt into two separate films for its international release - Tarantino's Death Proof and Rodriguez's Planet Terror--in a bid to impress European audiences after its disappointing showing in the US.

However, the movie's bosses Bob and Harvey Weinstein have refused to give up on Grindhouse--a violent mock trailer which featured in between the two movies, called Machete, will be made into another feature film, according to its star Danny Trejo.

He tells Moviehole.com, "That's the big one. We're going to do Machete next, and Bob and Harvey Weinstein have already said, 'Yeah, we're gotta do it.'

“They're going to make it a movie - because of the audience response."
