catlover79 04-19-2007, 12:35 AM The folks here in Cleveland sure are having a good laugh at this. IMHO, the worst thing the Indians' higher-ups did in 1999-2000 was get rid of proven manager Mike Hargrove and put in novice Charlie Manuel. Charlie was the whipping boy of the fans and some of the media from 2000 till the day he resigned in summer 2002.
To his credit, Charlie was a great hitting coach. The Indians burned up the league in offense under his guidance in the 1990s. Unfortunately this didn't translate into success as the skipper. I should note that he was under going serious heart and digestive problems at the same time he was the Tribe's manager.
I didn't even know he was still managing in MLB until I heard this story on my local news.

Well, being in the Cleveland TV market, it has a significance to us. He WAS our skipper...come to think of it, he DOES physically resemble Skipper from Gilligan's Island!

Well if the Skipper's team continues to lose he will be Goofy and Unemployed-lol
For example, their next 4 games are on the road, if the Phillies come home from that road trip 3-14, i think Charlie is good as gone
The Phillies suck. They are overrated. There's no way Howard was going to match the numbers he put up last year. They put their best starting pitcher in the bullpen to shore it up? That's not going to work. They have a good offense but mediocre pitching. They will finish 3rd or 4th in the division at best.
