This thread is a spin-off of Solomon's phone thread, unless he wants to argue that it isn't :p ;)

Have you ever been talking to someone on the phone (not a business or customer service call) when they get a call on another line or phone and they take that call and leave you hanging for more than five minutes? I just think that is so rude! I can understand that sometimes a person does need to take an important call, but I think the polite thing to do would be to let the person you're currently talking to know you 're sorry but you really need to take this call and they'll call you back ASAP. If it's not important, then tell the new caller you'll just have to call them back after. I had a friend who used to do this to me all the time and it drove me crazy.

I also find it rude when people I'm with answer their phones and have a lengthly conversation, leaving me just sitting there. I just feel so awkward. If it's not urgent, it can wait.

Yeah, that's happened too many times. They leave me hanging for ten minutes or more and then finally get back to me with "Can I call you back?" I say "Fine, whatever." I hang up and get an unlisted number.

I give them enough time to tell the other caller that they're on the other line, about 30 seconds. Then I hang up.

I do that too but I usually give them a couple of minutes before I hang up.

Yes my ex did that all the time, was a hoot because when he was talking to a friend and i would call he wouldn't answer. But if I called and than a friend called he would just put me on hold for 5 + minnutes.
