View Full Version : Story hits close to home, your opinions?
hostedbyrobertstack 04-12-2007, 11:07 PM Well this isn't on the show or anything, but today I read in the paper that earlier in the week, my former baseball coach and my friends dad from years back went missing on monday night. The police found him on tuesday and he was bound and gagged and doused in gasoline in the back of his SUV, but he was conscious and alive. He was a window installer and was on a job in an area that isn't bad or anything. This is a story I never thought would hit close to me, as it seems unsolved mystery type of story. The thing I'm wondering is if you think this was a random robbery or premeditated revenge? It said in the article that earlier this year he had fired an employee. It seems that a total robbery motivation would be weird, because construction type workers don't carry much money. Also, the gasoline involved, why would someone go through all of that just for robbery. It is a very sad story and I just would like to know what you think of this. I am wondering if it was retaliation for a firing. He is in critical condition and hopefully he pulls through.
DarkDante 04-13-2007, 12:55 AM I'm sorry to hear about your friend. First off I would assume the police are going to interview the victim, family and close friends to see who might have had motive to commit such a crime. Then they are going to move onto opportunity and so on and so forth. Hopefully, they will be able to narrow it down in a relatively short amount of time and a suspect can be identified and prosecuted for this crime.
Keep us updated.
nohwheregirl 04-13-2007, 09:23 AM Wow! That's really horrible, but thanks goodness he survived. I wonder why the attacker doused him in gasoline, but never set him on fire. Was the crime interrupted? Was the attacker suddenly not able to go through with it? Was the attacker just trying to scare him?
crystaldawn 04-13-2007, 10:10 AM It doesn't seem like robbery was a motive because I'm assuming they didn't take anything and weren't after his SUV. It does seem like they wanted him dead but something happened before they could set the fire (thankfully!). I would tend to think it was someone who knew him and wanted revenge for something. Yes we definitely hope he can make a full recovery. Maybe when he's well enough to talk he can tell police who did this to him and if he recognized them.
hostedbyrobertstack 04-13-2007, 10:27 AM yeah, i haven't heard anymore, but I would think if it was robbery that they would take the SUV as well, and construction type workers don't carry much mooney. Also, I think its interesting that the article even mentioned that he had fired someone earlier this year, that maybe there were clues that revenge was the motive. I have worked in that industry before, and some of the people that do that stuff are not the best people(no offense to anyone in that industry), but who knows it could have been an ex con or someone who he fired, who knows. Also, the fact that they were going to light it on fire why he was still alive, and not just to cover up evidence, that is odd.

In todays paper online, they just had an article about his condition. HE DID IT TO HIMSELF!! The whole article was about how he bound, gagged and doused himself in gasoline and he admitted to it. This is really really strange. I don't know if he was trying to commit suicide or what the deal is. This is very odd.

You know as I was typing my reply earlier today it did cross my mind to ask you if it was possible he did it to himself but I didn't want to offend you. Wow!

it had originally crossed my mind to, but the whole bound and gagged and doused in gasoline made me not think that at all. But its odd, makes me think of that one case(scared to death?) where she is found dead and bound and gagged, but police think she made up all of those calls. Maybe she did do it to herself.
LooksLikeCRicci 04-14-2007, 01:52 AM Woww...
I definitely see some resemblances to the Cindy James case... except for the fact that I think Cindy was murdered. In any case, though... WHAT. A. STORY! I hope that your friend's dad gets the help he needs. I'm sorry to hear that he tried to take his own life.
nohwheregirl 04-15-2007, 06:05 PM Woah!!
Tap Dancer 04-15-2007, 06:17 PM How sad! But how can a person tie themself up?
