Tonight marks the first night of the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs, in my opinion the best 2 months of Reality TV out of the entire year. (Not that you'd know it from the lack of hockey talk on this board!) Who will take the silver mug this year? The new champion will have to endure 4 potentially gruelling series before finally getting their just reward. The first round promises to be the most intense and most exciting. Here's how I see it going:

Western Conference

Detroit vs Calgary --- Red Wings in 5

Dallas vs Vancouver --- Canucks in 7

San Jose vs Nashville --- Sharks in 7

Anaheim vs Minnesota --- Ducks in 6

Eastern Conference

Buffalo vs Islanders --- Buffalo in 5

Atlanta vs Rangers --- Rangers in 6

New Jersey vs Tampa Bay --- Devils in 6

Ottawa vs Pittsburgh --- Pittsburgh in 5

2007 Champions --- Pittsburgh Penguins

Why is everybody picking the Rangers over the Thrashers? I don't understand the reasoning. Both teams played well down the stretch.

Henrick Lundquist gives the Rangers the edge in Goaltending and Shanahan really gives some veteran leadership. For me that gives the Rangers the nod.

God I hope you are right with Vancouver in the finals but I think they need 1 more year to get there.

If you want to follow the playoffs on TV, I have the full schedule for Round 1. You can catch all the action on Versus and NBC in the US and CBC and TSN in Canada.

I just would like to see the Penguins get to round 2. They won today so it is now 1 game to 1. I didn't see game one, but the score scared me-lol They are a young team so if they don't make it this year they will easily get a second chance.

More than a second chance, the Penguins are an extremely talented and very young team with more talent coming up. Much like Colorado/Quebec they had some incredibly horrible years but grabbed some tremendous draft picks. Those picks (Malkin, Stall, Whitney and some kid named Crosby) are all coming into their own at the same time. Pittsburg will a team to contend for the cup for many more years. This year I think they will exit early and learn from it next year.

I can't even imagine how incredible this team would be if Mario could have stayed healthy.

If the Canucks lose tomorrow I blame your Predictions!!!

I was really worried about that game 7. The Canucks have a bad history in game 7's and blowing 3-1 leads. Fortunately Trevor Linden stepped it up in a game 7, as he usually does.

Atlanta and Pittsburgh should both be better next season. They both have weaknesses on defense that they need to improve to be real contenders.

They got hammered today, too many penalties to a really good powerplay. Luongo wont let that many again this series

Trevor Linden bleeds Canuck blue

It's called DEPRESSION, Lex :(

Good Luck with the Canucks but I think they're almost as offensively challenged as the Habs ..... at least we used to score on 5 on 3 powerplays.

My pick for the Cup was the Sens vs Sharks

Who are you kidding Joker? The Nucks are way more offensively challenged than Montreal, Luongo just makes it possible to win 1-0 games.

I was really hoping the Habs would take down the Leafs but some bogus 5 on 3 against them in the 3rd ruined it.

I like the Sharks to get through but I think Buffalo has got it all, they'll lose it all next year when half their talent becomes free agents though.

I think the playoffs are going a long way to establish Nabokov as the Sharks top goalie. 2-0 Shutout of DETROIT in Game 1.

Let's review:

Game 1: Sharks 2, Red Wings 0
Game 2: Sharks 2, Red Wings 3
Game 3: Sharks 2, Red Wings 1
Game 4: Sharks 2, Red Wings 3.

There's a pattern here, and I can't say I'm that happy. San Jose needs to be a bit more aggressive if they want to make it out of this series.

In know, these guys are killing me in my playoff pool. I picked Thornton, Cheechoo and Marleau but scoring 2 goals a game is not what I expected.

It also looks like my Canucks are going down to Anaheim, I hope they can pull it off but 3-1 is a big defecit to come back from.

I can't believe Detroit managed to beat San Jose. I don't think they will beat Anaheim. Losing Schneider will be too much.

Anaheim in 6

Buffalo didn't play great tonight, but I expect them to rebound.

Buffalo in 6

I predict Buffalo and Detroit to win their series in either 6 or 7 games.

Damn those Senators!

Ottawa vs Anaheim

Senators have found a way to get past one of the best Goalies in the game (Broduer) and shut down the highest scoring team in the league (Buffalo). Even though Anaheim has the best 1-2 punch for defense in the game (maybe even in the history of the game) I can't bet against the Sens

Ottawa in 7
