my strange obsession with this segment continues....

20th Century Motors introduces the fascinating Vanagen, an 8 seater station wagon. heh. heh. heh.

Are you sure it wasn't the ***agen?

Looks like they ran out of ideas and just copied a monorail and stuck wheels on it.

I think they were going for half van half stationwagon, thus the vanagen

in any event, they had a third vehicle that doesn't look entirely unpleasant called the "Revelle"

This link has a good picture of the actual Dale:

Plus links to many articles from the mid '70s.

Awsi, I didn't particularly care for your joke above. Not only is what you suggested against forum rules, it's just not funny. Perhaps you should take something seriously for a change.

Talk about waking up on the wrong side of the 3-wheeler.

What the heck are you talking about. I typed ***, the symbols. Is that against some type of forum rule? If so, here I'll violate again, ***agen. And once more, ***kerplunk.

You had a recent thread with a name ending in gan which the profanity filter improperly blocked. This word ended in agen, which was similar, so I messed around with ***agen. It may have been weak but it didn't violate any rules and to insinuate such and to go off on a high horse is ludicrous.

You might try reading something again before launching lame. Or sample the world of PMs, where questions like this are properly addressed.

If you were joking about the filters, then that's fine. Was that what you meant by it? It can be interpreted a couple different ways.

Well bear in mind Awsi that what might seem funny to you may be offensive to others and you should be respectful of that. I think its best we all stick to the UM topics because it seems more and more we have entire threads that have almost no mention of UM segments or talk about UM at first and then stray. There is a chit chat board for people that want to talk about all different types of topics. Now back to the topic at hand.....

I had no idea there was a sequel to the Dale car. Did this come about in the midst of the Dale car frenzy or later?

I don't remember ever seeing a segment about a strange car. What happened to it? Is that part of the mystery?

It was a moneymaking scam. Thousands of people paid in pre-orders, but only 3 were ever produced and only 1 was able to run under its own power. One of them is in an automobile museum in Los Angeles.

Well, I realize I'm probably coming into this thread late in the game but common sense would tell me that if there was no original DALE, how could there be a sequel??????

Wasn't the "original" DALE partially made of wood?

Here's a link about the three different cars that were planned.

This has nothing to do with anything, but nice Lois Nettleton avatar, wiseguy! The Midnight Sun is a great TZ episode, that's for sure. :)

On topic: The Dale (along with both of the others) were atrocious looking anyway. Thank heavens none of them were ever actually produced otherwise we would have to see those eyesores driving down the road all the time!

The cars remind me of something AMC might have made to put in showrooms alongside the Gremlin, Hornet, and Pacer.

I want to say yes, Justin. I think that at least in part, the Dale was made out of wood... and pipe dreams. :)

And Dislimb, are you kidding? I think the Dale is an interesting looking car. Kinda futuristic. I'd drive one of those over a Mini Cooper any day. I do not get the fuss surrounding those....:)
