I love both of them but I would say Roseanne because she's the one I would buy if I was stranded at Wal-Mart.

Roseanne is much more entertaining to watch. Every episode is a completely different storyline, while in All in the Family, its practically the same thing in every episode: Bunker being a jerk.

I have to go with Roseanne on this one.

Archie bunker who wants to watch Roesanne every single week which we do anyway All in the family is way better

All in the family. It dealt with important issues. It was ahead of its time. one of the most influential shows of all time. Although Roseanne is good also I pick All in the family.

Roseanne dealt with serious issues every bit as well as All in the Family, and was really funny at it's peak but it was really only great for the first five seasons. All in the Family was great until season 9 without Mike and Gloria. Both are still top 10 sitcoms of all time.

All in the Family because Edith Bunker is one of the greatest TV characters of all-time.

Yes and ALL IN THE FAMILY was a 'FREE' show (Free from being 'politically correct' whih made it better)

All In The Family; one of the best sitcoms of all time, and Archie Bunker (especially during the show's earlier seasons) was hilarious.

I voted All in the Family ! That was a classic! ;) Good from start to finish. Never a bad season ! ;)

I like Roseanne too, but mainly the earlier seasons !:) Last season was esp. bad!!:p

I voted for Roseanne. Although the last season was terrible, I feel like the show had at least 7.5 awesome seasons.

Archie and Meathead acted like programmed stick figures. The show was of its time, but "Roseanne" (another show of its time) was pioneering three dimensional characters in a new ways and in more set locations (house, diner, bike shop, restaurant, shopping mall, other places). AitF was more or less a stage play with programmed stick figures, stuck to one set.

And even Mike would be contradictory to his own viewpoints between some episodes, which didn't happen with Roseanne or Dan or other characters - certainly in terms of frequency. Or Mike not realizing he wasn't perfect - in some episodes when needed, Mike becomes the equivalent to Archie with pigheadedness and there's no story arc or growth, which is something "Roseanne" would do decades later: Get characters to develop and grow. That's why it's not easy to vote - both were great for their times but both were radically different in discussing relevant issues. Given the fact "Roseanne" was made later and while pioneering new ways of storytelling, all while juggling the controversial, that's why I voted for that late-80s show.

You made good points. Looking at AITF now, it looks more dated. Roseanne looks more fresher and moves the stories forward. I'll take Roseanne too.
