View Full Version : Most realistic sitcom? Overdose 04-06-2007, 05:44 AM Overall, I pick Roseanne from seasons 1-8. 9, not so much. comedyfreak 04-06-2007, 05:50 AM I'd also go with Roseanne and the first two seasons of The Brady Bunch close behind, the kids didn't always get along. sunshinefizzy 04-06-2007, 07:58 AM Roseanne, Everybody loves Ramond, and Grace under Fire Socom 04-06-2007, 08:23 AM Roseanne was probably the most realistic. However, I thought The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond were also quite realistic as well. Yooch 04-06-2007, 10:06 AM Wonder Years Brooklyn Bridge Family Ties Boy Meets World (I find these sitcoms realistic, probably because at various points in my life, I can identify with them--the settings and situations, are for the most part--experiential, for many of us, I mean of the 'baby boomer generation. Although Boy Meets World came along later, I can still relate to many of its issues, somehow.) USATVFAN 04-06-2007, 10:08 AM All In The Family think about all the controversial issues they did,Roseanne would have never been a show if All In The Family Never Come Om The Air JulieSomoski 04-06-2007, 11:23 AM While All in the Family conquered the most important issues of the time, it wasn't so much realistic. In my opinion, it was a show that showed how the times were changing. Roseanne on the other hand, dealt with the same issues as All in The Family, in a more realistic way, if you can understand what I mean. Overdose 04-06-2007, 01:02 PM All In The Family think about all the controversial issues they did,Roseanne would have never been a show if All In The Family Never Come Om The Air Uhh, there is such a time-gap between these two shows I doubt what you say is true. USATVFAN 04-06-2007, 01:10 PM i agree it was different time . but in a way Roseanne could not have done some of the issues if it wasn't for all in the family. i dont want to cause problem but All In The Family Pushed The Envalope with some of the issues ,Roseanne Pushed it even further. sunshinefizzy 04-06-2007, 02:15 PM Oh yeah, how do you forget a show like All in the Family??? They were the first ones to be realistic if you think about it. But what about their spin-off shows? Do you think they would count? Also, Good Times. catlover79 04-06-2007, 02:26 PM Roseanne and Everybody Loves Raymond AB 04-06-2007, 02:56 PM All in the family was very realistic, they didn't overly sugarcoat the episodes and there wasn't always a tidy, happy ending. An 80s Guy 04-06-2007, 03:46 PM Roseanne and All In the family are probably the most realistic. treky 04-06-2007, 04:19 PM "Laverne and Shirley" and "Happy Days"    Buffyboy323 04-06-2007, 05:32 PM 1) All In The Family 2) Roseanne 3) The Wonder Years factsoflife 04-06-2007, 06:21 PM Maude coffield3 04-06-2007, 06:30 PM roseanne of course! factsoflife 04-07-2007, 01:26 AM It really depends on what your life expierances have been, because that would change what is real for you... to me the shows that have come the closest to being real or like my life are: Growing Pains Family Ties Full House factsoflife 04-07-2007, 12:13 PM roseanne of course! roseanne realistic? i don't think so... i've never in my life met anyone like that or a family like that. the family on that show was a bunch of redneck, white trash, losers... Overdose 04-07-2007, 04:07 PM roseanne realistic? i don't think so... i've never in my life met anyone like that or a family like that. the family on that show was a bunch of redneck, white trash, losers... Just because they were poor does not mean they were not realistic. The way the children acted towards each other and the way the children acted towards the parents WAS realistic. They talked back to each other, made fun of each other, ratted each other out, but were sometimes very loving towards one another. They dealt with real issues most families face in the United States. Sex, drugs, alcohol, abuse, depression etc. etc. All families in some way deal with those issues. Plus, the ACTING was realistic. All the actors on that show, for the most part, either won an Emmy award or were nominated for an Emmy. MikeLutton 04-07-2007, 05:16 PM All in the family. factsoflife 04-07-2007, 05:24 PM Just because they were poor does not mean they were Plus, the ACTING was realistic. All the actors on that show, for the most part, either won an Emmy award or were nominated for an Emmy. you are wrong about that Roseanne and Laurie Metcalf are the only ones that ever did. none of the others were EVER nominated, EVER. i'm sorry but that show was not real to me, i've never met anyone that acted as rudely or crudely as they did. for my life, to me, the most real tv families i've seen were on: Growing Pains, Family Ties, and the drama's Life Goes On and My So-Called Life... at least as it relates to my life. i guess some people can relate to the white trash family on roseanne, but not me... not to pass judgement. USATVFAN 04-07-2007, 06:20 PM All in the family. i agree About All In Family With Roseanne Close Behind sunshinefizzy 04-07-2007, 07:44 PM Well, factsoflife, you relate to Growing Pains? Call your parents and thank the crap out of them. They did a good job!!! factsoflife 04-08-2007, 12:42 AM Well, factsoflife, you relate to Growing Pains? Call your parents and thank the crap out of them. They did a good job!!! well the truth is, at least where i've grown up, most people are civilized and mature and do not act like the conners, they act normal and where i've grown up most parents care about their kids and are able to provide for them... sorry but that way of life the conners had is not typical of most middle class famalies, maybe of low income homes, but nowhere i've ever seen... sunshinefizzy 04-08-2007, 07:57 AM I find that interesting. I live in Oswego, NY and my family and the families I grew up with were like the Bunkers, Conners, Barones, and the Simpsons (think Homer and Bart not Jessica and Ashlee). Overdose 04-08-2007, 11:24 PM you are wrong about that Roseanne and Laurie Metcalf are the only ones that ever did. none of the others were EVER nominated, EVER. John Goodman was nominated 6 times. Sara Gilbert was nominated 2 times. factsoflife 04-09-2007, 01:21 AM I find that interesting. I live in Oswego, NY and my family and the families I grew up with were like the Bunkers, Conners, Barones, and the Simpsons (think Homer and Bart not Jessica and Ashlee). well i guess it's all a matter of perception... i live in Rhode Island (but moved around New England) and most of the famalies i met were closer to being like Family Tie's Keaton Family, Growing Pains Seaver Family or Full House's Tanner Family... sorry we just don't live like the conners... not to knock you if you do, but to me, in my life Roseanne was not realistic. factsoflife 04-09-2007, 01:21 AM John Goodman was nominated 6 times. Sara Gilbert was nominated 2 times. oh well either way neither one of them won... and the series NEVER won Best comedy series... because let's face it the classy people of hollywood have no way to relate to the trashy conner family treky 04-09-2007, 01:25 AM back when "TAXI" was on; my brother was working as a cab driver; and he said their garage was realistic. MikeLutton 04-09-2007, 01:51 AM oh that cool i didnt know that im pretty sure danny devito wasnt there or tony danza did he take any pics treky 04-10-2007, 01:11 AM no; sorry Classicshowsgurl15 04-10-2007, 04:26 AM Friends The Wonder Years Boy Meets World Step by Step coffield3 04-10-2007, 08:43 AM roseanne realistic? i don't think so... i've never in my life met anyone like that or a family like that. the family on that show was a bunch of redneck, white trash, losers... You arse Roseanne is and was the most realistic sitcom end of. You are proberly a stuck up spoilt bratt only child and it goes to show that youve never met people like them then you must live a sheltered life they are not rednecks far from it,they are working class hard workers. Anyone agree??? factsoflife 04-10-2007, 02:06 PM You arse Roseanne is and was the most realistic sitcom end of. You are proberly a stuck up spoilt bratt only child and it goes to show that youve never met people like them then you must live a sheltered life they are not rednecks far from it,they are working class hard workers. Anyone agree??? oh yeah im a stuck up spoiled brat because my parents weren't drunks or drug addicts and kept a job that made money and didn't work in a warehouse. and no i have 2 siblings... sorry i just can't relate to the conners. not real to me... my family went to college and has degrees and has good jobs. much like The Keatons on Family Ties. coffield3 04-10-2007, 03:09 PM oh yeah im a stuck up spoiled brat because my parents weren't drunks or drug addicts and kept a job that made money and didn't work in a warehouse. and no i have 2 siblings... sorry i just can't relate to the conners. not real to me... my family went to college and has degrees and has good jobs. much like The Keatons on Family Ties. So just because they didnt get degrees they were rednecks? i got degrees and i relate to roseanne more than any sitcom, they were not drunks or drug addicts.Well we are all different i suppose you just seem to be real stuck up.Whats wrong with working in a warehouse? its work. factsoflife 04-10-2007, 05:59 PM So just because they didnt get degrees they were rednecks? i got degrees and i relate to roseanne more than any sitcom, they were not drunks or drug addicts.Well we are all different i suppose you just seem to be real stuck up.Whats wrong with working in a warehouse? its work. i didn't say there was anything wrong with working in a warehouse, i just said i could not relate to that lifestyle; because my family is in a different economic bracket. I'm not stuck up or snobby because i come from a different background. um, HAVE YOU EVEN WATCHED THE SHOW? Jackie was an acholic, Darlene smoked pot, Dan was always drinking, Mark was too... they had a lot of addictions... Please don't call me a stuck up snob, you don't know me.. i just cannot relate to that show, and i know a lot of people that feel the same way... not everyone lives like that, so to people that don't we can relate to it, thus making the show unrealistic to us. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with living like that, it's all a matter of standards i suppose. My expierances however have been MUCH different than "Roseanne" and can be related more towards a show like Family Ties or Growing Pains; where money wasn't the main focus and loving each other and having educational goals was more valued. My parents weren't in jobs where you got paid minimum wage; in fact my mother never had to work, my dad made enough to support 3 kids, and his wife and we lived in a nice home which we own... i'm not saying that i'm better than you or anyone else, just that i cannot relate to Roseanne, thus making it unrealistic to my life. coffield3 04-10-2007, 06:30 PM Wow darlene smoked pot like gee most people have, jackie wasnt a drunk it was bev her mom. Most men have a few beers a day or every other, like you said we all live different lives it just made me angry because it seemed as if you were saying that all working class are rednecks,in which they are not and i think roseanne points that out even thou they make jokes in the sitcom about that because people like you were proberly thinking it .Its not out of choice that they live like that its due to **** wages **** jobs in the place you live. Also other reasons. factsoflife 04-11-2007, 12:02 PM Wow darlene smoked pot like gee most people have, no, not "most people" only people without morals and who like breaking the law... i on the other hand and most of my friends follow the law and DO NOT DO DRUGS...i believe from some early episodes that Jackie also was an alcholic... sunshinefizzy 04-11-2007, 01:07 PM Ok, just call it a truce already. Neither of you can help the way the other were raised. It's ridiculous!!! Just go your way and let the other go his or hers, please! factsoflife 04-11-2007, 03:10 PM Ok, just call it a truce already. Neither of you can help the way the other were raised. It's ridiculous!!! Just go your way and let the other go his or hers, please! smartest thing anyone here has ever said... Overdose 04-11-2007, 06:13 PM no, not "most people" only people without morals and who like breaking the law... i on the other hand and most of my friends follow the law and DO NOT DO DRUGS...i believe from some early episodes that Jackie also was an alcholic... Half of kids in their teenage years try pot. The issue is big enough that Roseanne putting it on her show seems A-OK to me and makes the show even more realistic. As for Jackie, she may have drank a lot, but being an alcoholic means you drink every day and depend on alcohol all the time. She didn't do that. factsoflife 04-12-2007, 01:33 PM Half of kids in their teenage years try pot.
