Overall, I pick Roseanne from seasons 1-8. 9, not so much.

I'd also go with Roseanne and the first two seasons of The Brady Bunch close behind, the kids didn't always get along.

Roseanne was probably the most realistic. However, I thought The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond were also quite realistic as well.

(I find these sitcoms realistic, probably because at various points in my life, I can identify with them--the settings and situations, are for the most part--experiential, for many of us, I mean of the 'baby boomer generation. Although Boy Meets World came along later, I can still relate to many of its issues, somehow.)

While All in the Family conquered the most important issues of the time, it wasn't so much realistic. In my opinion, it was a show that showed how the times were changing. Roseanne on the other hand, dealt with the same issues as All in The Family, in a more realistic way, if you can understand what I mean.

Uhh, there is such a time-gap between these two shows I doubt what you say is true.

but in a way Roseanne could not have done some of the issues if it wasn't for all in the family.
i dont want to cause problem but All In The Family Pushed The Envalope with some of the issues ,Roseanne Pushed it even further.

Oh yeah, how do you forget a show like All in the Family??? They were the first ones to be realistic if you think about it. But what about their spin-off shows? Do you think they would count? Also, Good Times.

All in the family was very realistic, they didn't overly sugarcoat the episodes and there wasn't always a tidy, happy ending.

Just because they were poor does not mean they were not realistic.

The way the children acted towards each other and the way the children acted towards the parents WAS realistic. They talked back to each other, made fun of each other, ratted each other out, but were sometimes very loving towards one another.

They dealt with real issues most families face in the United States. Sex, drugs, alcohol, abuse, depression etc. etc. All families in some way deal with those issues.

Plus, the ACTING was realistic. All the actors on that show, for the most part, either won an Emmy award or were nominated for an Emmy.

i'm sorry but that show was not real to me, i've never met anyone that acted as rudely or crudely as they did.

for my life, to me, the most real tv families i've seen were on: Growing Pains, Family Ties, and the drama's Life Goes On and My So-Called Life... at least as it relates to my life.

i guess some people can relate to the white trash family on roseanne, but not me...

well the truth is, at least where i've grown up, most people are civilized and mature and do not act like the conners, they act normal and where i've grown up most parents care about their kids and are able to provide for them... sorry but that way of life the conners had is not typical of most middle class famalies, maybe of low income homes, but nowhere i've ever seen...

well i guess it's all a matter of perception... i live in Rhode Island (but moved around New England) and most of the famalies i met were closer to being like Family Tie's Keaton Family, Growing Pains Seaver Family or Full House's Tanner Family... sorry we just don't live like the conners... not to knock you if you do, but to me, in my life Roseanne was not realistic.

oh yeah im a stuck up spoiled brat because my parents weren't drunks or drug addicts and kept a job that made money and didn't work in a warehouse. and no i have 2 siblings... sorry i just can't relate to the conners. not real to me... my family went to college and has degrees and has good jobs. much like The Keatons on Family Ties.

i didn't say there was anything wrong with working in a warehouse, i just said i could not relate to that lifestyle; because my family is in a different economic bracket. I'm not stuck up or snobby because i come from a different background. um, HAVE YOU EVEN WATCHED THE SHOW? Jackie was an acholic, Darlene smoked pot, Dan was always drinking, Mark was too... they had a lot of addictions...

Please don't call me a stuck up snob, you don't know me.. i just cannot relate to that show, and i know a lot of people that feel the same way... not everyone lives like that, so to people that don't we can relate to it, thus making the show unrealistic to us.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with living like that, it's all a matter of standards i suppose. My expierances however have been MUCH different than "Roseanne" and can be related more towards a show like Family Ties or Growing Pains; where money wasn't the main focus and loving each other and having educational goals was more valued. My parents weren't in jobs where you got paid minimum wage; in fact my mother never had to work, my dad made enough to support 3 kids, and his wife and we lived in a nice home which we own... i'm not saying that i'm better than you or anyone else, just that i cannot relate to Roseanne, thus making it unrealistic to my life.

Half of kids in their teenage years try pot. The issue is big enough that Roseanne putting it on her show seems A-OK to me and makes the show even more realistic.

As for Jackie, she may have drank a lot, but being an alcoholic means you drink every day and depend on alcohol all the time. She didn't do that.

come on get with it... they had an ACTUAL STORYLINE about Jackie being an acholic... she went to rehab and everything...

and just because a lot people do pot doesn't mean they are moral. it just means theres a whole lot of immoral people...
