sorry but another case popped in my head!!! Everyone is so good at giving me an answer so I thought I'd ask for help on another case:

A man rapes woman in the Sacramento,California area...He at first targeted single woman..then he got bolder and started raping woman in households with a man present. He was famous for putting dishes on the mans chest so that if he moved he would hear him..There was a town meeting and one man said If he came near his house he would kill him...that mans house was attacked shortly afterwards..which means the rapist was at the meeting...then the attacks stopped...then there was a link between another rapist from another community...speculation is maybe the rapist is dead...or disabled...or is attacking in another community..so I'm wondering If he ever got caught or If there are any updates!!!

also:
I also have another case that I would like to know about..

it's has been played twice very recently on LRW. I would just like to know when the woman in this segment died. She would be around 102 years old today so I'm assuming she has passed. It's the case in which the womans husband comes back as a ghost and has her daughter write down a birthday note for her..it was played this last weekend..

That's the EAR-ONS case, or East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker. Incredibly prolific criminal but surprisingly little focus on the case including zero books. His rapes date to the mid-to-late '70s in Sacramento and DNA tests about 5 years ago linked him to murders in Southern California in the late '70s and early '80s. Last known murder or rape was in '86. No updates or capture.

Here's a link that includes his voice, if you click on the ski masked picture low in the link:

There's an EAR-ONS message board on A&E but be prepared to be snarled at if you disagree with the regulars. They like to nitpick at small possible differences in MO and use that to conclude there were two or three EARS, making copycat crimes since they're confident everything will be falsely attributed to one person. Let's just say I wish I could bet against that type of thinking, every second of every day.

why oh why did i click on that ski masked image?!? The image alone was creepy as hayill but listening to that was SO not the way for me to start the morning. Fascinating and well organized site, though. The main thing that's creeping me out, however, is those photos of Paseo Drive and the drainage gulley. I swear to you I grew up not 1/8 mile from Paseo Dr, my buddies Larry Hart and Aaron Dunham both lived on that street((!!)), and that drainage gulley (we used to just call it "the ditch") runs all through the part of Rancho Cordova I grew up in and went to elementary/middle school/high school in. We would ride our bikes up and down the sides, and it was a real quick, and sneaky, way to get from my neighborhood to just about any other part of Rancho towards the river. I am spooked by the thought that the EAR may have been using that same ditch for the same "quick/sneaky" purpose but to a decidedly more nefarious end. I had never known his attacks occured that close to my house. I was 3 years, 3mos at the time of his last Sacramento area attack so there's no real thought that our paths may have crossed. But hell, he may have stalked my house. Apparently the fact that that both men and women lived at the residences didn't dissuade him any.

One other thing, while I was on the Cold Case Files board (not the one above) some time last Winter, there was considerable discussion regarding the EAR/ONS. From what I could glean from the comments, there was speculation that he had logged on to their board. I don't know how reliable that info is though.
