That Polly Holiday and Linda Lavin did not get along at all? I have heard this a few times :rolleyes:

Linda and Polly sure did look like they got Along on The Series

It is true that those did not get along. When the show first started in the first two years they got along but when the show took off in the third season (which was the best season) people were saying that Polly was the star of the show. People were watching Alice to see Flo because she was the funniest one on there. Linda Lavin got upset and made life hard for her on the show and that's how her spinoff Flo came about. You see she did not go back to Alice after her show failed like many spinoffs that fail where the character can come back or at least make a couple of guest appearances. After Flo's final episode, Flo's Farewell in the middle of season 4, you can see the friction between her and Linda on camera. At the start of season 4 you can see the interaction between on camera changed that there was some tension between them. When Diane Ladd came on board Linda did the same thing and the following season she was gone. The show was never the same after that because Jolene was not funny and a horrible replacement. Alice was an ensemble show, in the sense like Barney Miller, Cheers and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, where Alice was the straight person with all that was going on around her at the diner and her home. It had the potential of going down as a classic but egos get in the way of things.
