I think she only had one line, it was just mainly Alice and Flo. even Mel wasn't talking thst much in this episode, it was the Alice, Flo, and Tommy Show

Vera, to me, seemed like a minor character in most of season 1. They didn't start focusing episodes on her as much until seasons 2 and 3. By the time Jolene came around in season 5, Vera seemed to have more episodes about her than the others in the cast.

I think they were still trying to develop the characters in the early episodes. My favorite shows are when Mel and Vera have bigger roles. In fact I can see why Linda Lavin would be jealous of Polly Holiday but really for me I like all the supporting characters better than Alice. She was more of the straight woman. She was the center of the action and very important but her supporting cast brought more comedy to the show.

During the last 2 seasons,Linda Lavin was directing as well and a lot more focus was on Vera. Vera got married and in the final season she and her husband got a new house. One of my favorite episodes in S6 is "Guinness on Tap",where Vera tried to make the Guinness World book of records for tap dancing and it took place at the diner.

That was a great episode. I never liked Vera's husband though. He was to much of a dork.
