Ex-'Family Ties' Star Bonsall Arrested

BOULDER, Colo. -- Former child star Brian Bonsall, who played Andy Keaton in "Family Ties," was arrested on charges of assaulting his girlfriend, police said.

Bonsall, 25, was being held in the Boulder County jail Friday on charges of second-degree assault and false imprisonment. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Bonsall was arrested Wednesday after his girlfriend told police he poured an alcoholic drink on her face while she slept, put her in a choke hold and threw her onto a bed when she tried to leave.

Bonsall told investigators he pushed the woman down in self-defense after she cut his arm and face with a steak knife, but she denied that, police said.

The woman was initially taken into custody but then released, police said.

Bonsall, who lives in Boulder, appeared in three seasons of "Family Ties," the NBC sitcom that helped launch Michael J. Fox's career. He later appeared in episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the 1993 film "Father Hood."

In 2004, Bonsall was arrested in Boulder on suspicion of drunken driving. In 2001, Bonsall was convicted of drunken driving and his license was suspended, police said.

Michael J Fox must be horrified to hear that! Alex P Keaton would be horrified, too!

That's terrible. It's a shame to hear how he is doing. I will always remember him as playing little Andy so it's hard to accept that he's an adult and is doing such things.

I saw him on some "Where Are They Now" thing a couple years ago, and he looked pretty rough... lots of tattoos, piercings, etc.

Honestly, I'm not too surprised.

So sad. Let's hope he can turn his life around.

I'm not surprised either. His myspace page is all about beer, tatoos, piercings and childish punks. He's really gonna get in serious trouble if he doesn't stop that ****.

It's sad to think that this is the same little kid who MJF always hugged so tenderly.

I saw a segnment about it on Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday.

OMG I'm just finding out about this!!I cannot beleive it.

I saw some messages on his band's myspace, from people who know him personally and declare that Brian wouldn't do anything like that unless he had to do in self defense. They say that the media is bored. Believe me or not but I believe his friends.

I am just hering about this.
