View Full Version : TV Sitcom you feel had a great FIRST SEASON and after that something was never the
TVFactFan 03-30-2007, 09:11 AM same?
For me it was Welcome Back Kotter, after season 1 they were toned down and the show was never the same again
Hangin with Mr. Cooper, very solid first season great cast and then after season 1 they add ******** Raven Samone. The End
benjamoon 03-30-2007, 12:01 PM "8 Simple Rules" - for obvious reasons
"Rhoda" - the 2nd season was alright but it lost some of its steam every year
sunshinefizzy 03-30-2007, 12:42 PM In my opinion, I liked Full House better in season 1 than any others because Michelle didn't talk yet:lol: . That's mean, I know. I was watching reruns latley and Michelle is just very annoying to me and in fact, everybody but Danny was annoying to me. Steph wasn't so bad either. Solomon, why do you haet Raven so much? Just out of curiousity.

I don't hate her, I hate the ******** roles she played on Cosby Show and Hangin with Mr. Cooper.
SBTB Geek 03-30-2007, 08:06 PM The OC
Prime example. The first season was genius.
PrettyinPink55 03-30-2007, 08:38 PM I usually find in most shows, especially sitcoms, that the first season is usually the worst, because it is when the shows are still trying to find themselves and establish their own identity. I always find the first season for a lot of shows to be very rocky and not as interesting as the later ones. So this, to have a better first season, is pretty rare, in my opinion.
Mr. Television 03-30-2007, 10:41 PM Mork And Mindy
Nighthawk76 03-30-2007, 10:50 PM I think that the first season (the CBS version) of Charles In Charge was far and away the best of the five seasons. Even though I like seasons two and three (and a little of season four) there was just a sweetness to the series and an intelligence in the writing that was missing in the syndicated version. I think the show was really dumbed down for the syndicated version.

especially Buddy.
catlover79 03-30-2007, 11:26 PM I agree with Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, and also Mork & Mindy. What was ABC thinking??
Nighthawk76 03-30-2007, 11:34 PM especially Buddy.
Yeah

I totally agree. Season two for me was okay, but season one was the best. It got downright silly towards the end.
I agree with Mork & Mindy and 8 Simple Rules. Also there was My Wife and Kids, I think season one was the best. Season 2 to me was okay, but after that, it was just ridiculous.
kambreesuncle 04-01-2007, 06:04 PM In my opinion, I liked Full House better in season 1 than any others because Michelle didn't talk yet:lol: . That's mean, I know. FH was very good during its first year. DJ looked cute then and Steph, too. Hangin' with Mr. Cooper was also a joy pre-raven.
Mork & Mindy --- too many changes after Season 1
8 Simple Rules --- for obvious reasons
The Monkees --- excellent first season, so-so second which lacked the spontanaiety and excitement of the first
Desperate Housewives --- characters and storylines became less interesting
Hope & Faith --- after Season 1, they changed the theme song and the eldest daughter, both of which I quickly began to dislike
MASH --- as the cast kept changing, the series took on a more dramatic tone. All of the slapstick and general buffoonery which made the first 2 seasons fun to watch slowly disappeared. It was all downhill from then on.
All In The Family --- As Archie got tamer, the show got lamer.
Classicshowsgurl15 04-11-2007, 05:39 PM I think Charles in Charge had a good first season because I like the first family better. I don't like the Powells as much. I think the Pembrokes were better.
Snoopygirl_68 04-11-2007, 09:29 PM I'll go with Mork and Mindy-after they decided to get rid of her father and grandmother it wasn't the same. They brought back the father at some point, but the damage was done.
Ant-Lox 04-12-2007, 04:26 AM Jeff Foxworthy Show - It moved to a new network and everything changed except the name of the show
The Naked Truth - Same as The Jeff Foxworthy Show
comedyfreak 04-12-2007, 09:43 AM Mork & Mindy although I still liked season 2.
Temperature's Rising that show changed dramatically one Doctor was replaced by Paul Lynde and it wasn't the same.
Angie-The show changed during the 2nd season when Angie got married to Brad, it wasn't the same.
sunshinefizzy 04-12-2007, 03:03 PM How weird Angie and Brad???
Jerlene 04-12-2007, 10:02 PM Prison Break though I still watch it.
An 80s Guy 04-13-2007, 05:31 PM Mork And Mindy
That 70s Show-It just got less funny as it went on
88survivor 04-13-2007, 06:10 PM That 70s Show had a great 2nd Season, though...:)
factsoflife 04-14-2007, 06:37 PM a few examples:
Will & Grace: the first season was great, but shortly thereafter they lost focus and the show wasn't as good... they toned down the political jokes and focused more on making the characters stupid.
Sabrina, The Teenage Witch: as the show kept going it lost a lot of the spark of the first season... although i did like the casting change of adding Valerie to replace Jenny in season 2. Jenny never felt right for the show...
Veronica's Closet: Season 1 was great, but they made too many changes in season 2... it wasn't the same afterwards.
Anything But Love: this show definetly was a work in progress, but by season 2 they made so many changes it almost wasn't the same show... i hated the addition of Anne Magnuson and i hated that they dropped Sandy Fasion as Pamela Peyton-Finch...
waichingliu81 04-16-2007, 04:37 PM in da house
will and grace
friends- the first 6 seasons were good but afterwards, it got boring and predictable
frasier- great until niles and daphne got together. afterwards just like friends it got boring and predictable
Brieannas21 04-17-2007, 09:40 PM I would say Family Matters, after the first season it became the Urkel show.
comedyfreak 04-18-2007, 10:47 AM 2nd season of Bosom Buddies, the got away from dressing as women after their secret was discovered. They also switched jobs going into business for themselves.
Brian Damage 04-18-2007, 11:28 AM What's Happening Now
mstewart 04-18-2007, 11:38 AM The first full season of Eight Is Enough. It went from a nice pleasant family drama starting with a family of 8 with two parents but when Diana Hyland passed away during mid production during the midseason trial in 77 then the show brought on Betty Buckley to play the new wife. It was a smooth transition and showed the reality of a father remarrying and she coming into this with issues of her own. The following season they needed to get topical and edgy. At many levels it was starting to jump shark especially when the oldest son and his girlfriend living together.
The Cosby Show had a great first season and the second season was excellent but the third season and beyond became more of a sociology lesson. Those first two seasons of the show was fun and entertaining to watch.
catlover79 04-18-2007, 12:17 PM I would say Family Matters, after the first season it became the Urkel show.
Urkel is a classic example of a supporting character who should have STAYED a supporting character. Why did they even keep the title Family Matters? It wasn't about the large, blended family anymore. I missed Mother Winslow and Rachel, plus the phantom Judy.
Chocoholic 04-18-2007, 12:17 PM I loved My Name is Earl last season, but I've lost all interest in it now.
Everybody Loves Raymond was great for the first year or two, then it just went downhill. It was so predictable and no one on that show had anything nice to say to each other.
I liked Frasier the first couple of seasons, but I lost interest after Wings ended its run in '97.
LOL to whoever said Full House was better before Michelle learned to talk!
fullhousefan91619 10-20-2007, 05:19 PM Family Matters. It was OK until the end of s4. In season 1, Judy had a larger role, and it made more sense for her to pal around with Laura instead of Richie.
Rezny@gmail.com 10-20-2007, 05:40 PM "My Three Sons"-Both the ABC/CBS Bryant Park years (1960-1967)were the best. When they moved to California(a good idea at the time, but it was TOTALLY botched)the show went downhill all the way."Petticoat Junction"-when Bea Benaderet died ,and the "Kate Bradley"character was written out of the show,it wasn't the same, and should've ended."The Munsters"-In the second season,it sort of went downhill, because Herman was,in some episodes portrayed as a pretty level-headed guy,and in others, portrayed as a stupid boob."Happy Days"-The first two seasons were the best, and it started going downhill when Fonzie-mania took over, and when, later on,Ron Howard and Don(Donny)Most left.

To me HD got better after season 1-lol
Dean Winchester 10-20-2007, 08:19 PM staying away from the already mentioned's like Mork, Housewives and Cosby...
Friends. It stayed consistant for the next six or seven seasons but the first season was by far the show at it's hippest and freshest. By season 2, the show started falling victim to it's own hype and the characters became more and more self-parodies as the season progressed. By season two, everyone knew how big the show was and things changed. Yet everything was fresh and new and exciting in season one. I also liked the way season 1 was filmed over the rest of the seasons, it was darker, the characters actually looked less like models and more like normal New Yorker's, etc. I do think the show was fun for the bulk of it's run, but the first season aged the best of the series.
Ally McBeal's first season was by far it's best as well.
Rezny@gmail.com 10-20-2007, 08:28 PM ABC's"The Addams Family"never jumped the shark in second season, but they got rid of some of the gruesome aspects from season one,(and to some people, that was a plus)and had a few episodes that tried to capture the different flavor of the first season .Both seasons were good(some episodes were better than others),but, despite never jumping in either season, somehow it WASN'T the same in second season.
Mikado 10-20-2007, 08:39 PM Mork and Mindy, it fell apart after season 1 when ABC demanded changes that destroyed it
Lost in Space, I enjoy all 3 seasons, but, the first season is the best by far
Happy Days, the day Fonzie became more than a second banana, the show started to jump the shark...as did Fonzie...litterally
Rezny@gmail.com 10-20-2007, 08:41 PM "Green Acres"was good in the first four seasons on Wednesday Night, but in the 5th and 6th season when it was moved to Saturday Night(Why?)and Tuesday Night(Why?)it suffered immensely,(changing characters, sometimes redone weak plots and poor ratings-it was NOT in the top 20 either season).
For SITCOMS the choice for me is easy...
THE SINGLE GUY.
In the second season whent hey ditched the married couple with the baby and brought in the hip guy and the english chick and everyone hung out in the Bagel Shop it was ruined.
Honorable mention to: MEN BEHAVING BADLY...without Ron Eldard and Justine Bateman I had to quit watching....it was horrible.
SCI FI-WAR OF THE WORLDS-Season Two was NOTHING like season one.
DRAMAS-BOSTON PUBLIC-The network asked the show to focus more on the students than the teachers and Lauren was reduced to a minor character when Jeri Ryans character came to prominence. Don't get me started on the Hook Lady.
SOAPS-FALCON CREST was great with its episodic first season where the stories had a begaining, middle and end along with some continuing threads.
