out all of Fred's friends below who was your favorite?
Leroy
Skillet
Bubba
Melvin
Grady
Elroy
Hutch
My Favorite was the heavyset guy-Leroy" the man was just cool and funnny as hell with that voice of his.
My Least Favorite was Grady, The only GOOFY one out the bunch, appeared to be kind of slow and just was a complete Weirdo

Leroy was my favorite out of your list too, but he, like Skillet, only appeared in a few eps.......not like Bubba (who showed up after Melvin disapeared)or Grady(who joined the cast much later)....... Elroy and Hutch were both in the one about the escort service, but not in many others......I definitely think Bubba was the better of the two characters .....in comparison to Grady......imagine if Bubba were in charge when Fred was in St. Louis instead of Grady!.......lol

I have to do more researching and found out why the Grady character was chosen to live with Lamont while Fred was in St. Louis

I will say Bubba was the best, because he was the most loyal. I really loved Leroy and Skillet, I wished they would have stuck around longer, Grady I could have done without, but he had hhis moments.

I think Grady's problem as a character might have to do with the fact that Whitman Mayo was only in his 40's when he first appeared. Coming from that perspective, he seems like an exaggeration of an old man.
For me, Grady is just too "soft" for lack of a better word. Someone like Bubba just looked like that annoying neighborhood guy from that generation. Probably because he was. He was my favorite by far.
