LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.Those wacky folks over at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans released a list of some of their special appearances this week for the upcoming season at Costal Federal Field, with an emphasis on retro-stars - which, of course, is the charitable way of saying over-the-hill.
The Pelicans, who also list 10 separate fireworks events among their promotions, will dig deeply into the archive of 1960's television shows when they bring in Adam West - the actor who played Batman long before George Clooney, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer - on June 5, when the P-Cans host the Lynchburg Hillcats.

Fans will get the chance to re-kindle the age-old debate from the "Gilligan's Island" television show - Mary Ann or Ginger? - when Dawn Wells (aka Mary Ann) makes an appearance July 11 when the Pelicans host the Winston-Salem Warthogs.

Sherman Helmsley, who portrayed George Jefferson in the sit-com, "The Jeffersons," also will make an appearance Aug. 6 when the Kinston Indians hit the beach.

Unfortunately, the Pelicans also are bringing back Myron Noodleman on April 28 when the Hillcats make their first visit to Coastal Federal Field.
Noodleman, who is far more annoying than funny, will host "Embrace Your Geekness."

Still, for as much as Noodleman's talent escapes us, there is some good news: at least he's not "Baseball, the Musical," the dramatic production of last summer that threatened to set baseball and the theater arts back at least 50 years.

Signed elsewhere
Former Pelicans right-handed pitcher Ralph Roberts has signed with the Macon Music of the South Coast independent league, where he will play for former big leaguers Phil Plantier (manager) and Bryce Florie (pitching coach).

Also, former Pelicans outfielder Angelo Burrows has signed to play with the Nashua Pride of the independent Can-Am League, and the ever-popular Willie James has hooked on with the Anderson Joes of the South Coast League.

For the record, I was going to write "Florida area" this July.
