I think that's a good idea for some people, but it's not something I want to do. I like to keep my internet friends, and my flesh and blood friends separate. S.O. is my little getaway from everyone in my day to day life. Plus, I fear that things could get really cliquey if people invited their friends, so for those reasons, I choose not to.

That's how I look at it. Nobody in my actual life knows about this site, and I intend on keeping it that way. Just this minute, a friend called. I saw her name on caller ID, but didn't pick up. If she's calling this early, I know she wants to visit with her two little monste...I mean kids, lol. I'm not up for company, but I don't want to hurt her feelings and tell her that. Now if she knew about SO, she could log on and see me posting. There's no way I'm combining my personal and internet life.

Very wise..I know I tend to be a little too open about my personal life on the internet, which is very naive of me (especially here on SO).
Lol, I'm the same way, although I am careful about venting about my life because you just never know who's reading this. That's yet another reason that I don't tell anyone about this site. They may read about me bitching about them.

Um, nah....

I like to keep my online and offline lives separately. There are things about my offline world that I want to vent about, so I come online (here at SO as well as another forum I frequent) to do so. It's a getaway and escape and just a breather.

I don't want to have to be extra careful about writing something here and offending or annoying anyone in real life should they come across my posts here online.

I agree, Mona :) There are just some things I type here that I'd rather not let my offline friends know about. My online journals are the same--I don't add anyone I know in real life. I use myspace for that because I make it public and post things I don't mind anyone reading about.

I mean, the idea is cool and all...but I don't think I'd want my friends or family on here
