Researcher was the one who said I was silly for asking if there was any news last week. I just saw the news this morning too.

I am very excited for this release. I have been waiting for this one for a while. I'm very happy they decided to release it. :)

Yeah this is good news but I just thought it was no chance since it was a syndicated show and not primetime. I thought this show had as much chance as coming out on DVD as Out of the Blue from 1979

What's Happening!! sold very well on DVD. It would make perfect sense for Sony to continue to release the show with the follow-up series.

Exactly! That's what I've been saying all along. I knew it was just a matter of time before they released the follow-up.

Thanks for posting the news Pav! I hope we make it to Season 2. That has the "Cabin Fever" episode on it where the girls go on a road trip. It's hysterical! :D

I saw the early DVD art work cover and Rerun takes up most of the space. It looks a tad bit scary for me. I know that Rerun was popular, but it was Raj that was the star of the show and he should not be placed in the background. It reminds me of the Sesame Steet song: "One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong".

Back to drawing board!

Yeah, I kinda thought that too. Is Rerun in the second season eps at all? If not, I wonder how they are going to handle the coverart for the remaining seasons. It will probably just be Raj, Nadine, Dwayne & Shirley.

As for Season 1, it will be interesting to see what the final coverart looks like. I imagine we will see that next week along with the press release. I'm just excited that we're getting it on dvd. I hope they just go ahead and release the rest of the series so we will have the complete What's Happening series on dvd, with the exception of Shirley's show and the one-off episode of The Brady Bunch Variety Hour where some cast members guest-starred.

He was the star of what's Happening but not What's Happening Now-lol Yeah I'm surprised too

He was not the star to me on the original either. He was popular and could be considered representative icon, but Raj could too. This cover art is beyond ridiculous. It would be nice if Dee was added, but I am not worried about that too much. With this rough draft, you can only see 75% of Ann Marie Johnson's face. If I was five again, it would scare me to see this DVD artwork.

Well, Fred Berry was just in this season, they are milking him all they can. Seasons 2 and 3 would not have him.

Believe me, Pav. That is exactly what I said when I saw that cover. This is a little ridiculous. Raj and Nadine should be in front, Dwayne to the left, RERUN in the middle Shirley to the right. These three should be behind Raj and Nadine.

The artwork is not final. Announce date is Monday and it could change by then.

Dee's role was too small to be on the Front Cover

ThomasE

They could still add her. How big or small her role was is not a big issue. One of the features about that season would be her visits home. But as I said, I am not too concerned with that. That sample cover has big daddy taking up all the space pushing back the appearance of the lead character.

I think she would be more suitable for the Back of the DVD

It doesn't matter really. As long as it sells and we get all three seasons. Rerun should be featured on the first season cover...his face will draw. They can't put him on the cover for S2 and S3, so they SHOULD take advantage now.

ThomasE
04-01-2007, 05:34 AM
Pav, I think that there should still be some serious balance there when it comes to that cover. At the same time I was thinking the same thing that you were. I thought that they were taking advantage of the fact that he was in that first season with pic and all. On the part about being in hopes that it sells well, I think that it will. I can see a season two being released, but I wonder how season three will sell since Fred Berry was missing from season two.

Robert 13

I can't wait for today's announcement. It just pumps up the hype of this release even more.

Pav, I agree. Even though Rerun wasn't the star of the spin-off, I don't mind him being on the cover so it attracts buyers who are not that familiar with the series. If it means we get Seasons 2 and 3, I'm all for it. But I do think from the series' point of view, the cover doesn't make sense. We saw more Shirley than Rerun, didn't we?

I hope they continue with Season 2 because that has some hilarious episodes. :D

Roger “Raj” Thomas is an aspiring writer married to Nadine (Anne-Marie Johnson), a social worker and civic organizer. They are foster parents to Carolyn (Reina King), who displays the sass of Raj’s younger sister Dee, who makes periodic visits home from college. Raj also purchased a half interest in his favorite high school hangout, Rob's Diner, which he now runs with feisty waitress Shirley. His dimwitted buddy Dwayne has become a computer programmer, Rerun is a used-car salesman and the two bachelors share an apartment.

Thanks for posting the release info, Pav! Looking forward to seeing many episodes I haven't seen in a long time. :)

I hope we make it through all of the seasons. However, I am glad that TV Land aired the "As Al" episode as it is one of my favorites.

For season three, they can push Martin Lawrence, since he was a cast member then. Funny, I don't remember seeing any post-Rerun episodes, though I remember watching "What's Happening Now!!". I don't know if I ever saw the original series until I bought the DVD.

I guess in the end, it's whatever sells so we can get the other seasons. Much like with "Wings: Seasons 1 & 2" had Tony Shalhoub on the cover, even though he didn't join the cast until the third season. He made one guest spot in season two and it got him the cover, lol.

Yeah I didn't think about that, but I don't know if his role was that HUGE to be on the front, maybe the back of the DVD

Assuming, they use Martin Lawrence (like another poster suggested) to sell season three, I wonder how they will sell season 2. We all know Rerun's departure took away many viewers and I for one, watched all three years on my WGN affilate. I hope we get all seasons and no Night Court drama (remaining seasons cancelled due to low sales)

I wish they would have commentary or interviews with the suriving cast members. It would be nice to see and hear their thoughts on the series. At least we are getting the series on DVD! I'm excited!
