If the hold-up on completing the Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart Show seasons is monetary, I have a solution: release the entire series in box sets. Maybe casual fans of the show get their fix on a seasons one or two DVD set, and don't feel the need to pony up for the forth, fifth and sixth seasons.

However, if the entire series was released in one shot, perhaps the casual fan would see the value in owning the entire show and be willing to pay for an all encompassing box set.

Just a thought.

I like the idea, but I think those of us who DID buy the season sets all along would be a bit upset if that were the only way to get S5-7. I don't get why they can't just do the bare-bones releases they have been. They can't have been selling THAT badly. I just think Fox is being stubborn.

I see your point, Kristen. Then again, I sold off my MASH individual sets once the entire series set was confirmed. I'd purchased seasons 1 - 6 at that point and selling them didn't really bother me. I think more people (casual fans) would be inclined to buy the entire series vs. paying for individual seasons, psychologically that is. In other words, easier to fork over a one time fee rather than making seven transactions.

Maybe a good compromise would be if Fox released S5-7 in one shot. Then everybody'd be happy. Of course, I doubt Fox is smart enough to listen to us. LOL

i think they'd sell better in just the season sets - people are more likely to buy a single season in the $20-30 range on a whim, and only the bigger fans are really going to invest in a full boxset...

i think that the problem is that they price them too high to start with

I just wonder if sales of seasons one through two or three of any given series are strong, but trail off as the later seasons come out. I fear studios are more willing to bail out on the latter seasons for this reason.

As to your other point, yes, I think the price is set too high on many TV Show DVD sets. Some shows are priced at $50! I have yet to buy the Star Trek seasons because of the ridiculous pricing. On the other hand, I've loaded up on shows like "The Jeffersons" and "Sanford and Son" because of their reasonable prices.

I'm glad 70s classic "Maude" is finally out on DVD,lets see Rhoda following quickly and the last three seasons of TMTMS please!!!

Long time no see, Josh! :) If you look at the top of this board, you'll see a thread I stickied awhile back that has an email address for Fox, if you'd like to "vent" your feelings to them. I'm hoping maybe if enough people email, they'll get so annoyed, they'll release S5 just to make us go away! :lol:

I absolutely LOVE this show. I bought it as a gift to my bf. A couple years later, I decided to finally watch it (I found out Betty White was in it). I instantly FELL IN LOVE with this show and all of the characters! I agree with the above statements that if FOX wants to finish it quick, then package the rest of the seasons together. It just doesn't make sense to stop when people have heavily invested $100-$125 bucks in their previous releases. It would make me think twice about buying other FOX releases. Just called FOX again, asking if Season 5 of TMTMS will be released, and the woman's response was, "There are currently no plans to release it."

I then said, "So there are no plans to continue the releases of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" by FOX, correct?" Her response was, "Not in the near future."

I just emailed Fox. I am sure I will get a standard form email back. I can't believe they would stop at Season Four. Betty White only gets better in the last three seasons. I love when she loses her job and has to beg Mary for a job in the newsroom. I mean to me the last three seasons are just as good or better than the first four. Shame on Fox for shutting us out. That stinks.
Maybe if we all called on the same day, every hour on the hour they would get the message. I think we are really sunk though because they have all the marbles. But for me personally-they don't have anything else I would buy from them. I knew when Anything but Love and the Loop were released before Mary that she was done. I think I will play my Tammy Wynette 8 tracks and cry myself into a mind numbing stupor. Does anyone have a list of local stations that are still playing Mary? I get Denver area cable and none of them are showing any older shows except Channel 9 that shows Cheers between Leno and Conan. The only thing I can see happening is that another company will either license or buy the MTM catalog and just release it already. The sad thing is that Fox could have been done with Mary by now.

Agreed 100 percent. They would rather release crap like "Stacked" and shows that last 6 episodes than a true classic. True corporate stupidity, and like you said, they are being pigheaded and stubborn.

Though I am glad to see them making some effort to release the classics (they are releasing another MTM classic, WKRP this April, and continuing Addams Family releases (though that is a joint release between MGM and Fox)). However, they have to do A HELL of alot better to fully gain my respect.
