View Full Version : David & His Dad AB 03-16-2007, 08:47 PM I seem to remember an article about Jack Cassidy being jealous of Davids popularity and success? Does anyone remember anything about this? gidgetgrape 03-16-2007, 09:49 PM I think I remember that being mentioned in Shirley Jones' A&E Biography. Scoobiedoo30 03-19-2007, 11:56 PM I seem to remember hearing about reading about that David Dad being Jelous AB 03-20-2007, 04:56 PM I just wondered how much of a problem this caused between the two of them? And did they finally work things out before Jacks death? buggsrabbit 06-07-2007, 02:14 PM I can remember reading years ago that Jack Cassidy was very jealous of his son's success. From all accounts I've read, Jack was a troubled, unhappy soul. AB 06-07-2007, 05:54 PM Thats kind of sad. buggsrabbit 06-13-2007, 10:58 AM I just wondered how much of a problem this caused between the two of them? And did they finally work things out before Jacks death? I was curious enough about this to read up on Jack a couple of days ago. Apparently, they never did work out their problems, and Jack specifically stated in his will that neither David nor his mother Shirley were to get anything from his estate. Again, by all accounts he was a very bitter, unhappy person. AB 06-13-2007, 05:27 PM ^ It makes you wonder what made him so bitter. Be Right Back! 06-14-2007, 06:39 PM Jack Cassidy, from everything I have read, was extremely jealous of David's rather instant success. Mr. Cassidy had toiled in Hollywood for years, saw his career wax and wane. He was facing solid middle age and by the early 1970s perhaps felt his time had come...and gone. A bit off-topic but recently I also read that Whitney Blake (Hazel) was extremely jealous of her daughter Meredith Baxter-Burney, and the two of them rarely spoke and never reconciled. Sad. Parents are supposed to wish more for their children than what they attained themselves. AB 06-15-2007, 03:12 PM ^ It wouldn't surprise me if there were alot of parents jealous of their childrens success in Hollywood. But it still seems kind of sad that it has to be that way. Jack Cassidy was a very handsome actor, I'm surprised that he wasn't more successful. TripperFan 06-15-2007, 03:19 PM Yes, Jack really resented David's popularity and success. If you look at David now (about the same age Jack was when he was killed in the fire), outside of David colouring his hair, they look almost identical. I don't think they got a chance to reconcile before Jack died either. Danny Bonaduce's father was always jealous of him too. Danny became the breadwinner of the family and he just hated it. He never has made up with his father (and I don't blame him) but unfortunately he's carried the scars with him the rest of his life. buggsrabbit 06-15-2007, 05:09 PM Jack Cassidy, from everything I have read, was extremely jealous of David's rather instant success. Parents are supposed to wish more for their children than what they attained themselves. This is a bit off-topic but somewhat related: I've heard often that Julio Iglesias (sp?) is so jealous of his son Enrique's success that he can hardly bear to be in the same room with him. Sheesh. What egos. catlover79 12-28-2008, 09:49 PM I was curious enough about this to read up on Jack a couple of days ago. Apparently, they never did work out their problems, and Jack specifically stated in his will that neither David nor his mother Shirley were to get anything from his estate. Again, by all accounts he was a very bitter, unhappy person. Yes, and he was the one who left Shirley...what a shame. ohno: Supposedly, Jack was in the running for the role of Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Ted Knight ended up getting the role - and several Emmys to boot. Jack DID later show up on TMTMS as Ted's brother, but only as a one-time deal, and passed on not long afterwards. Very sad. Coffeecup 03-04-2009, 12:27 PM I read Genie Francis's father Ivan felt he had toiled so long and when Genie hit it big on General Hospital, he had mixed feelings. I remember he did a few episodes of Room 222 in the early 70's and never became a well know name like his daughter. It must be tough to be in show business. |
