Everyone must have a favorite one year wonder that only lasted a few episodes, less than a season.

Yes, that was the best hope for an African-American based drama. I would have liked to see it given a chance. 413 Hope Street was pretty good, City of Angels: I wanted to like but I thought it was ordinary. captain59, I agree with Byrds of Paradise, that's another show I liked. It featured Seth Green and Jennifer Love Hewitt before they became better known.

Police Squad was great, but my favorite short lived show was First Monday. I thought it was well done - it had gotten rave reviews and CBS kept bragging that it had such great ratings. And they ended it on a cliffhanger!!! UNFORGIVABLE!!!! Now we'll never know.

I was also a big fan of Christy (1994-95, CBS) with Kellie Martin. The show was filmed entirely on location in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, and the costumes were terrific. You really felt like you were in 1912. There were several plots I hated, but the acting was always strong. The book by Catherine Marshall is better, though.

My favorite One Season Wonders are:
Whoopi and Life With Lucy.

I honestly don't know why people say Whoopi was not funny. It had me laughing and at the time it was on my Must-See-TV list.

Also, I've been watching LWL over and over the past few weeks and I really think it was a funny show. I think people just remember bad things about it because of the media at that time. It's really an amusing show.

i thought two of a kind wasn't bad, although the olsen twins did annoy me a bit. it was funny mainly because of the two adults, kevin- the girl's father and carrie. i thought they intereacted with each other rather well

i also liked the pam anderson sitcom stacked- i am still mystified as to why that was cancelled so early

"Bridget Loves Bernie" starred Meredith Baxter and David Birney as a rich Catholic girl who marries a poor Jewish boy and the complications their families cause them.
It was on CBS in 1972-73 on Saturday nights between "All in the Family" and "Mary Tyler Moore". It had the perfect can't miss timeslot. It had very good ratings, yet CBS pulled the plug after one season. I could never understand that!
Many of you probably know that Bridget really did love Bernie because Meredith Baxter and David Birney were married in real life in 1973. I think that marriage lasted until the early 1980's, a heck of a long run compared to this show!

Sony Pictures was set to release the series on DVD in 2006 but changed their mind at the last minute. What a shame. The show had a great supporting cast, too. This show deserves to be seen by a new generation.
C'mon Sony, it's only 25 (or so) episodes. You can release this one anytime now!

Bridgett Loves Bernie was a true gem of 70s television...funny, witty and intelligent.

It was a shocker cancellation too, in that it was a top 10 show (5th I think) but CBS justified the cancellation saying the show couldn't hold on to the massive lead-in that All in the Family provided it.

I also vividly remember all the controversy that the show engendered because it was centred upon the marriage of a Catholic woman and a Jewish man. I think CBS faced a challenge in selling sponsor time for the show.

It would be a real treat to see this series come out on DVD.

I'd also LOVE to see on DVD the early '80s series "United States" starring Mr. Beau Bridges and Miss Helen Shaver that was yanked by NBC after only a handful of episodes had aired. Mr. Larry Gelbart (of M*A*S*H fame) wrote many of the episodes, which were sans-laughtrack and very theatreish in look and feel. It was quite revolutionary for the time, and adultish too (as I remember, NBC had the temerity to schedule the show at 10:30 pm, well out of Family Hour).

Square Pegs: loved it and I think it would have run longer had CBS not put it against :mrt:! :explode: I mean it was doing so well, and then they moved it to 830, which was during the second half of :mrt:!

Don't laugh but... "Ferris Bueller". The reason I loved this show so much is because of Charlie Schlatter (of "Diagnosis Murder"). Jennifer Anniston played his sister (Jeanie).

"Townies". Loved this too, because of Molly Ringwald and it also stared Jenna Elfman.

"Medicine Ball": this was probably my favorite, but I have to admit, it did start getting a little weird toward the end. The first episodes were better. Plus it took place in Seattle, which was cool!

Dusty's Trail: Some really funny scenes with Bob Denver.

And I'll add to the list of those who liked Bridget Loves Bernie. It's odd to see "CBS-TV's Smash Hit" at the top of the paperback book that was released, while sadly the series was cancelled after only 24 episodes. I'd really like to have this on DVD.

CRAP LAND, years ago, aired an episode of it, once. (fat chance of them doing it now-but I don't want this to become another "TV LAND-bashing" thread).

Trivia fact: it was replaceed on the CBS schedule by "MASH".

Is that the show where a group of scientists are shrunk down and travel through Sherwood Schwartz's body?

Nope. It was an NBC series in the late 1990's (or maybe it was early 2000's) starring Brecking Meyer as a sports agent who uses sports references and plays to narrate his life. It was a half-hour sitcom and last about one season.

The Steven Banks Show- lasted 13 episodes in 1994. It was sort of kind of a spin-off of Bank's one man show Steven Banks: Home Entertainment Center. It'd be great if they released both on DVD together.
Hey, isn't he the guy who always went, "Banks...Banks...Banks...BANKS!!!!"? I loved that guy!! "Elvis has to write a speech now...Elvis has to write a speech now..." :brent

My brother-in-law acutally watched (and liked) that show (which aired in 2001). He's the only one I know who watched. I like the Sherwood Schwartz idea, though - THAT would have been interesting.

Yep, that's him. That's from his one man show- Home Entertainment Center. He had so many funny songs on that-

When I was 10 years old, I was tryin' to be cool.
I was a fab-year Beatle runnin' round Liverpool.
First I was John,
Then George,
and then Paul.
I didn't wanna be Ringo at all.
He wasn't cool.

In high school, we watched the Steven Banks special in health class when we studied left brain vs. right brain. It was awesome. I'd love to see that special again. Thanks for clearing that up. :D

There's an episode where the scientists are in Sherwood's head and they accidentally cross some wires in his brain- His "story ideas" get mixed in with "shows he watched on TV"- Gilliagan's Island and Wagon Train, which of course results in hilarity.

And to add (since I've since gotten to see them in their entirety thanks to their DVD releases):

Quark (though it didn't run a full season)

Edited again, to remove Angie (thanks Retro!)

No, truthfully I haven't even heard of it. The only current magic show I watch isn't scripted per se, it's Penn and Teller: Fool Us.

I loved Mary-Kate and Ashley's Full House follow up named Two Of A Kind as well as the show they did in 2001-2002 named So Little Time. Another show that I thought was good was named Working Class which was a CMT original starring comedy actress Melissa Peterman who is now a main character on the show named Baby Daddy.

God bless you and her and Mary-Kate and Ashley always!!! :) :) :)

I had forgotten about "Police Squad!" until I was going through my DVD cabinet the other day. Truly was ahead of it's time, because the Naked Gun movies (which came just a few years later) were hugely popular.

Also forgot about "Phenom" until I saw it mentioned on another website. I liked the girl who was the main character, and thought her coach was hilarious.

Fox sitcom starring Chris Elliott. It was hysterical but few could appreciate or understand the comedy. It was one of the best sitcoms ever. A grown man still living with his parents who was still a paper boy. The episode where the kitchen remodelers were scheming to rip off his parents and Chris putting on puppet shows for them was a laugh out loud moment. He discovered their plot and tried in get into their circle but they never accepted them. At the end, they finally accepted him and gave him a tool belt.

I loved “Get A Life!” It premiered at the same time Seinfeld did, and actually got more viewers its first season. Ah, what could have been. The opening theme “Stand” was perfect. I remember in the opening he was on his bike delivering papers, and he wound up his arm for one to send it flying, and he landed it about a foot away from himself. I wish I could see that again!
