whether it's different characters or different actors playing the original characters.

I imagine this topic has been done before, but I didn't see it, so I went ahead and made this one.

Teen Wolf Too
Grease 2
Home Alone 3, Home Alone 4
Return to Oz (If you count this as a sequel to the 1939 film)

Okay, now you can add to the list.

The Dukes of Hazzard 2

The Fly II

Dennis the Menace Strikes Back (I think is the title)

I wonder, does Caddyshack II have mostly a different cast?

Return to Peyton Place had a completely different cast, and was still a surprisingly good movie.

Oliver's Story only had 2 people from the original Love Story, but that movie sucked.

I totally agree with Oliver's Story. The one part I liked about it was Oliver repairing his relationship with his dad. The rest of the movie was a total waste of time.

Chevy Chase was in both Caddyshack movies. Thankfully, there was never a third.

The Hannibal movies had all different casts, the exception being Anthony Hopkins. Well, he won't be in the next prequel, I hear.

Although I've never seen both films, "Inspector Gadget" changes lead actors, and I'm betting the supporting cast was different in the sequel, too. Without see either movie, I think French Stewart makes a better Gadget, just because he's weirder than Matthew Broderick, and Gadget's a pretty weird guy, lol.

Yes there was, but the entire cast changed.

Dukes of Hazzard the prequel

Speaking of prequels, "Dirty Dancing" had one, I believe it was set in the 1950s, thus making it a prequel. Though I have never seen it.

Haven't they done a couple of American Pie sequels lately? Don't those have different casts, with maybe the exception of Eugene Levy?

Yes, Band Camp and the Naked Mile.

Just thought of two more, lol.

George of the Jungle 2 (as far as I can tell, only the villain played by Thomas Haden Church reprised his role. This was right before he became famous with Sideways, so I guess he was doing whatever he had to, because I've heard this movie is terrible. I saw the original Brendan Frazer film.)

Problem Child 3 (This was a Made for TV sequel. It had the same characters, but different actors, except for Gilbert Gotfried, who returned.)

Honey, I Blew Up the Kid and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves - Sort of. "Blew Up" still had three of the original actors (Moranis, Strassman & the kid who played Nick, their nerdy son). The older sister Amy was in the opening scene, leaving for college. And then in the third film, only Moranis returned. Everybody else was new. Because the lead actor remained the same, I'm not really counting these, but I thought it was at least worth mentioning.

I think Jack Warden also returned for Problem Child 3.

Hey, I remember that movie. I think it was made for tv. It had Mary Steenburgen in it. Jean Shephard returned to be the voice of older Ralphie (I think), and they did get the same teacher from the first movie. Mostly a cameo, but it was definately her! I liked that movie, but it was nowhere near as good as the original. It was made at least 15 years after the original, so it would have been pretty hard for Peter Billingsley to still play Ralphie - at 30!

Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd

Then of course there's all the Star Wars prequels. The droids & the Emperor were the only returning actors, I think.

And every other Batman movie has a new cast, but that's not necessarily a bad thing ;)

Oh, and lest we forget, Scarlett which didn't have anyone from Gone With the Wind. But being made 60 years later when most of the original cast is dead, makes that understandable.

I think Jack Warden also returned for Problem Child 3.

He did, you're right. But it was such an awful, awful, awful movie that I like to pretend that it doesn't exist. John Ritter/Amy Yasbeck weren't in it, it doesn't count ;)

Oh, speaking of Amy Yasbeck - anyone remember her in Splash Too? That was another terrible sequel with no one from the original in it.

Psycho II only had Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles in it; and the other sequels only had Perkins and a bunch of lesser actors :(

He was in it, but had a much smaller part. I think Bates Motel and the Psycho remake were the only ones that he wasn't in.

ahh...I didn't remember him in that one. I'll have to rent it on netflix, it's been years since I've seen the movie.
