View Full Version : "9 To 5" [Lyrics]
callmetootie 08-06-2001, 11:06 PM "9 To 5" Sung by Dolly Parton. [1982 version, not the syndicated tune]
Tumble Out Of Bed
Stumble In The Kitchen
Pour Myself A Cup Of Ambition
Yawning Stretching
Trying To Catch A Ride
Don't Try To Talk To Your Friends
You Wait A While and Your Ship Will Come In
Working 9 to 5
What a way to make a living!
9 To 5...........

callmetootie 11-02-2001, 09:41 PM I'm sorry, but those lyrics that I posted are incorrect...there are more words to it. Here's the full 1982-1983 ABC lyrics:
Tumble Out Of Bed
Stumple In The Kitchen
Pour Myself A Cup Of Ambition
Yawning, Stretching
Trying To Stay Alive
You May Have To Wait A While
But Your Ship Will Come In
And It's All Gonna Change
And It's Gonna Blow You Away
Working 9 to 5
For Service and Devotion
Why Not
Take A Ride
And You Think About It Don't Cha
And You Spend Your Life putting money in his Wallot
Working 9 To 5
Yeah, Try and Catch A Ride
9 To 5
My dad said that he saw 2 episodes of the show, and that those are the correct lyrics.

Sean Snow 11-16-2001, 05:25 PM I Think These Are the Correct Theme Lyrics
Tumble Out Of Bed,
Stumble In The Kitchen,
Pour Myself A Cup Of Ambition,
Yawning, Stretching
Trying To Come To Alive.
Jumping in the Shower,
and the Blood Starts Pumping,
Out on the Street,
The Traffic Starts Jumping
With Folks Like Me on the Job from 9 to 5!
Working 9 to 5,
What A Way To Make a Living!
Barely Getting By,
It's All Taking and No Giving!
Baby, Use Your Mind,
And They Never Give You Credit,
It's Enough to Drive You Crazy If You've Had It!
9 to 5!
For Service and Devotion,
You'd Think That I,
WouldDeserve a Fair Promotion!
Won't You, Move Your Head?
Cause My Boss Don't Seem to Let Me!
I Swear Sometimes That Man Is Out to Get Me!
9 to 5! [Whoooo]
RenegadeJenn 11-18-2001, 10:53 PM Close but no cigar - here are the right lyrics, it used to be my favorite song in the world!
Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come to life.
Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin, out on the street the traffic starts jumpin with folks like me on the job from nine to five -
** Chorus**
Workin' 9-5, what a way to make a livin', barely gettin' by, it's all takin and no givin, they just use your mind and they never give you credit, it's enough to drive you CRAZY if you let it..9-5 for service and devotion, you would think that I would deserve a fair promotion, want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me. I swear sometimes that man is out to get me.
They let you dream to just to watch them shatter, you're just a step on the bossman's ladder but you've got dreams he'll never take away. In the same boat as alot of your friends, waiting on the day your ship will come in, and the tide's gonna turn and it's all gonna roll your way...
**CHORUS**
Workin' 9-5, what a way to make a living, barely gettin' by,it's all taking and no givin', they just use your mind and they never give you credit, it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it. 9-5, yeah they got you where they want you, there's a better life and you think about it, don't you. It's a rich man's game, no matter what they call it and you spend your life putting money in his wallet. 9-5 what a way to make a livin', barely gettin' by, it's all taking and no givin', they just use your mind and they never give you credit, it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it..repeat chorus to end..
Smiles,
Jenn :-)
Sean Snow 11-19-2001, 11:22 PM Actually, those are the full lyrics. Those weren't used on the show for time.
If you go to www.80stvthemes.com (http://www.80stvthemes.com) and select the COMEDY option, you can download a really cool version of the 9 TO 5 theme song from the TV series. You actually get to hear the music director speaking and the orchestra tuning up before they begin.

musicradio77 02-06-2005, 03:19 AM They also had that song as being played on Kicks 94.3, a country station which being a rival competitor to WRWD. Back in 1981, the song from the movie was #1 on WABC's survey back in March of 1981 and stayed for one week.
