View Full Version : An Official Happy Birthday Thread For Sitcomsonline Members
Zoneboy 03-13-2007, 02:40 AM Instead of separate threads dedicated to one person, Why not have an official happy birthday thread dedicated to all members. It might also make a good sticky topic. The only reason I'm suggesting this is because everyday several members here celebrate their birthday and to single one person out with a thread dedicated solely to them seems ridiculous because no member here is more or less important than another.
Janice 03-13-2007, 12:21 PM All active members get a birthday thread, but if you'd like to make a thread and list everyone (even the ones who've never posted or haven't posted since 2003), then by all means, be my guest.

It was just an idea but I can see the point of what you're saying. :)
Brian Damage 03-13-2007, 01:42 PM I think it is nice that everybody gets individual attention for their birthday. There is nothing wrong with the birthday threads we have now.

I'm sorry, I haven't noticed any individual threads except those dedicated to Tripperfan, yourself and a couple of others. There's probably more but I haven't took the time to look. I suppose it wouldn't make much sense to start a thread for someone that hasn't posted here in 3 years. :)

You're not looking hard enough. Here's what came up in a search of "Janice and Happy Birthday".
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/search.php?searchid=784008
Brian Damage 03-13-2007, 04:23 PM Janice has been creating birthday threads for many people for several years. If it bothers you, don't read them.
Mr. Television 03-13-2007, 05:15 PM I think it's great that everyone get's their individual birthday threads and Janice should be commended for it. She's been doing it ever since I've been a member here. You must not be paying attention because their are birthday threads made practically everynight. You have to have your birthday listed on your profile if you want one though otherwise nobody will know when it is.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it bothered me and it doesn't. I just didn't realize that she's being doing it all this time. I just wanted to make a suggestion, I didn't expect everyone to come down on me like a ton of bricks. :(

You're probably right I might not have been paying much attention and mine is on file. :)
Skywalker 03-13-2007, 09:18 PM I agree with most of you, I think it's great that SO members get birthday threads.
How about an official birthday thread for actors and actresses? Everyday I see about 4-5 different birthday threads for actors and actresses and hardly anyone ever posts in them and they just take up space IMO.

I don't mean to come down on you. I just think Janice's birthday threads are special and mean alot.
I have been reading some older threads in this section. It might be a good time to revisit this idea.
What does everyone think of having one Official Happy Birthday Thread? I know some sites have it that way.
Janice started the birthday thread tradition. She made them personalized and special. She was very dedicated in creating them.
She would often get up in the middle of the night or stay up late just to post them. It hasn't been the same without her. She has been greatly missed.
We could stick with the current individual birthday thread by committee approach. I think most fairly active Chit Chat and overall members usually get one, but sometimes we forget. I don't want anyone to feel left out.
Please let me know what you think about having one thread. We have a lot less active members than we used to. The birthdays are listed on the main page only for members who have logged in the last 6 months (186 days).
icecream 02-18-2024, 04:45 PM No! I don't one combined birthday thread for everyone. Individual threads are a lot nicer.
Another option would be to install an add-on which automatically creates a new thread. This way all still active members would be mentioned. It would create one thread per day when there are any birthdays.
I like the rare occasions with the individual threads when two people have the same birthday and it becomes a contest to see who’s more popular and gets the most replies.
All of the birthday thread drama would be eliminated if it is automated. A bot will never forget your birthday.
Dude111 02-18-2024, 09:15 PM We should have a seperate base for birthdays Todd :) (One 1 site im on we do have one just for that)
PhoenixAcres 02-18-2024, 11:26 PM Having a robot start the threads is okay with me.
When Janice left I tried to step in her footsteps with the birthday threads but unfortunately I'm so busy sometimes I don't even get on SO until the evening.
Today is Missygal21880’s birthday. They last posted 9-10-23. How far would the bot go back?

They are some pretty big shoes to fill. I appreciate you stepping up to help out. I wasn't expecting you to get up in the middle of the night to post them. :)

It's based on the last login date. The cut-off date is 6 months (186 days). For the automatic threads, I can exclude members with less than X posts or members joined in the last X days.
It's a little sad that we have 47 birthdays today, but only 2 of the members are still active. That's pretty typical for most days.
icecream 02-18-2024, 11:47 PM Automated threads posted by a robot are so impersonal. :(
Automated threads posted by a robot are so impersonal. :(
We're all going to be replaced by AI and robots at some point if you believe some people.
The replies won't be impersonal. I see it as a reminder and a convenience.
Many people had downloaded this same add-on. Active members won't be left out in this case.
You saw when tenter asked if anyone wanted to wish her a happy birthday. The thread would have already been in place.

Im actually a her.
Also in my opinion, I think there should be one thread for happy birthday members.

Good to know. I see you have female in your profile.
I have tested the add-on. It should automatically create a new thread in Chit Chat once per day shortly after midnight if there are any birthdays. Some people have it set to hide their birthdays or birth year. The age won't be shown for those who don't have it listed.
I for one welcome our new bot overlords, with their birthday greetings and their bringing of cake

That actually doesn't sound that bad.

AI is not good........
I do like BirthdayBot’s interests in their bio. Those are good hobbies.

I just sent a friend request to BirthdayBot. Hope they accept it.

He's a machine. Thankfully he didn't list replacing humans. He's a good bot.

You might need to wait a long time. He hasn't logged in since August 16, 2014.
He's not here to socialize. He has two main jobs.
1) Post the birthday threads.
2) Detect multiple login attempts. Since 2007, he has sent me a PM every time someone has logged in on more than one account on the same computer.
Dude111 02-20-2024, 05:02 PM He can only detect that if the IP is the same......

Well if the IP is the same buddy you would know.. (Thats how CD knows its me all the time :()
stevea 02-28-2024, 12:12 AM Clearing cookies also ditches your "Remember Me" for Sitcoms logons.
When clearing history I always keep the cookies here and for a few other trusted sites.
Well if the IP is the same buddy you would know.. (Thats how CD knows its me all the time :()
I thought you were using a VPN. It looks like you've used many different IPs on here. Do you have a static IP address?
Why don't they just block your IP address from the control panel or at the server level? It seems like they are just creating more work for themselves than necessary.
Dude111 02-29-2024, 05:00 PM Well they know all the proxies I come in with, almost all are on the watch list.....
If I went in directly with my own IP maybe they wouldnt know it was ME but thier site doesnt render 100% correct on the http side which is why I go thru something to see it 100%....
I cant come in direct here because you have http blocked and you wont trust me that things wiil be OK if you allow http also........ (I wish you were like my other friend Gabe buddy)
spiritualforums.com/vb/ now allows http,I can get thier directly (Gabe added a rule to send newer browsers that have "Always use https" to https.. Thats why when I go there,I can stay http.......)
stevea 02-29-2024, 05:11 PM I'm probably opening up a can of worms, but what's your problem with using https sites? The rest of the world uses them.
They would save themselves some time if they just blocked your IP addresses.
We don't block http. The .htaccess file is set up to auto redirect to https. It's not really a good idea to have both http and https in the search engines.
BirthdayBot says he'll TRY to accept any friend requests, but he's not making any promises. He's not exactly getting overworked with the birthday threads.
Dude111 03-03-2024, 10:25 PM City-data does it and they are fine Todd......
Also spiritualforums, letsrollforums and hipforums does it.... Wont you even give me the benefit and try it and it and see its ok buddy??
You dont even have to have it like city-data does, just add a rule when the site sees IE6,it lets it stay HTTP.... If Gabe can do it with spiritualforums, you can Todd :)
I'm probably opening up a can of worms, but what's your problem with using https sites? Well because IE6 cant read these new certs and #1) THERE IS NO REASON FOR 1/2 THE SITES THAT ARE FORCING HTTPS NOW TO BE DOING SO!!!
icecream 04-24-2024, 06:06 AM I really don't like lump sum birthday threads where everyone is combined. Active members deserve their own individual thread, I would rather not share mine with someone else. It can also get to not participating in the mass threads if someone likes one member but not the other(s).

It's more environmentally friendly to combine them. It uses less resources.
If it was possible to automatically split them into individual threads, I would set it up that way. If anyone happens to share your birthday, I can manually split them.

Sorry to be off topic again, but why would anyone take the time to write rules that involve a 24 year old, discontinued browser?
Dude111 04-24-2024, 01:19 PM I dunno Stevie. If I ran a site I would take a few seconds and do it just in case someone like me was out there using an older browser....... IT WONT HURT ANYTHING!!!!!
AND EVERYONE USED HTTP BEFOIRE THEY WERE SCARED STIFF BY THE POWERS THAT BE TO MAKE THEM THINK THEY ARE PRIVATE USING HTTPS!! (When all it does it block older/BETTER stuff from connecting (Stuff they cant track ppl with (Which is why its blocked basically)))
Sadly many are not like me and dont care, they just believe the MSM trash guiding them down certains paths.........
Its really very sad........
icecream 04-24-2024, 01:26 PM Dude, when I copy a link on the Mozilla browser I use they now give an option to copy without site tracking. And if you have a good antivirus program protecting your computer (my family does NOT recommend Norton), they block a lot of tracking as well.
I have no idea how to even create a rule like that for older browsers. E-mail or PM me the rule they are using.
I can't make a change that will possibly affect thousands of users connecting to satisfy a single user. I'm reluctant to change anything myself because it could screw things up.
There's obivously nothing preventing you from accessing the site now.
Dude111 04-24-2024, 01:43 PM You should ask Gabe Todd on spiritualforums buddy,he will tell you how to do it :) (inspirit)
Im not mad............ I just feel bad someone who doesnt really know me (Gabe) wrote this in within days of me asking him about it and you have known me along time and wont seem to do a thing..... It just makes me sad.........
I love you TJ!!
EDIT:
It has something to do with the server looking for browsers sending "Always use HTTPS" and if they do,the server puts them on HTTPS..... Older browsers dont send this header and are allowed to stay HTTP.... (I think thats what he told me he did)

Okay, I'll bite....what in the hell are you on about? What does the main stream media have to do with whether or not you're using HTTP or HTTPS in front of the link? You seem to be awfully concerned with being tracked online.

Yes, IMO stay away from anything Norton.
Dude111 04-30-2024, 05:47 PM I have heard bad things about Norton but this DID save our XP computer upstairs one time several years ago....
Somehow a stealth trojan got on the computer, norton couldnt see it because it was running..... It had a list on the screen of other computers it had attacked FROM OUR COMPUTER!!
I unplugged the modem instantly and opened task manager and began ending task on things I didnt know what they were..... (I dont know much about XP to begin with) and when I ended task on the trojan exe,NORTON SAW IT AND DELETED IT..... It said it had to reboot the computer to get rid of it completly........ When the computer rebooted a message on the screen said "The system has recoverd from a fatel error"
STUPID STEALTH TROJANS..... I dont think ANY A/V program can detect a STEALTH TROJAN.........
I wonder if Todd has asked Gabe how he did it??? (If these proxies im using go down I wont be able to get here anymore)
stevea 04-30-2024, 06:22 PM Norton wasn't even ready for one of the Mac Operating System updates a few years ago.
And they bought LifeLock a few years ago; I've heard their so-called customer service is lousy now. To be fair, that's just hearsay.
Dude111 04-30-2024, 06:43 PM I hear ya buddy.........
I dont know what trojan was on the XP upstairs...... Its scary that it could have launched itself w/o the A/V detecting it.... At first the file WAS NOT RUNNING so you would think it would have been gotton before it even started
Your ISP or VPN is probably already tracking and logging all of the sites you visit. I don't see how https is spying on your activity or location. I don't think you know how it really works.
You can always use an updated browser if your proxies go down. I don't know how we would be able to continue if you can't get here anymore. We might as well close up shop if that ever happens. :)

YOU ARE NOT STOPPING ANYONE FROM SEEING ANYTHING BY FORCING SSL (https),THE POWERS THAT BE CAN STILL SEE EVERYTHING....... Its a false sense of security Mate.......
You wont even try to add a server rule like Gabe did which makes me sad...... Why do you believe all the MSM garbage meant to make you folow thier path??

TJ wasn't in a bad mood, you are the one shouting.. And you are limiting what you can do and where you can go by sticking with the antiquated IE browser no one updates anymore. Eventually IE is going to stop working and you will have to update your browser. I really don't care what Gabe does, TJ is under no obligation to copy him.

Dude111 05-05-2024, 03:20 PM It was asking what the mainstream media had to do with using http or https because someone was afraid theyre being tracked online while using the site. What I am saying is most people have been duped into thinking HTTPS is better than HTTP when it isnt... Do you thnk the powers at be are gonna give you someting THEY CANT SEE???
No ... They are maiking you think you are secure when your no more safer than you were.... All this does is cut off older browsers that they cant use to spy on people with, thats why they did this....... All these newer browsers track people and report this,that... I feel safe on IE6 .. IE6 doesnt do any of that!!
They tried like crazy to scare people off of IE6 .. BECAUSE THEY CANT SPY ON PEOPLE WHO ARE USING IT!!
I am glad I am not brainwashed like the majority of people living a fake reality they want you living....... Its all really very sad.......
My question STILL wasnt answered, and I dont think it will be. That's fine.I did answer it buddy,I said it was OK to laugh. Todd was in a bad mood and didnt really mean that...
This thread is getting hot and Todd might get mad and close it so lets keep it calm ok???
stevea 05-05-2024, 10:21 PM How does one reply to that?
For one, if you're so concerned about being tracked, or spied on, use a VPN. Then you won't have to worry about SSL.
You're right, sooner or later, your IE6 will probably fail. It won't be hacked--no hacker would probably think anyone even uses it, or they are too young to have ever heard of it.
stevea 05-05-2024, 10:39 PM Who’s Gabe, why do we have to do what Gabe does, and more importantly, is Dude also in love with Gabe?
I know this one, but only the first part. Earlier in this thread, Dude mentioned a guy named Gabe at some forum who changed something so Dude could use that forum with his antique browser. I guess that forum also had the nerve to convert to using SSL.
He also sent him a paper coupon for one month free America Online dialup.

Dude, do you have this? Maybe it can help. It’s by the same author of Internet Explorer 5.5 for Windows for Dummies, so you know it has to be good.

No Stevie spiritualforums.com/vb is SSL but Inspirit added a server rule so if your using an older browser that DOES NOT SEND "ALWAYS HTTPS" The server will allow the connection to stay HTTP if they want to and thats how all sites like this should be.... There is NO NEED TO FORCE HTTPS on sites like this!!!!!!
