View Full Version : Were you named for someone/Did you name your child after someone??
catlover79 03-11-2007, 09:26 PM My middle name is Elisabeth, which was my grandmother's (my dad's mom) first name. My cousin Jean's middle name is also Elisabeth, in honor of our grandma. Jean is the first name of her other grandma. My sister and her husband named their baby Andrew Michael, the Michael is my brother-in-law's father's first name.
Zoneboy 03-11-2007, 09:28 PM Both of my Grandfathers were named Charles and I was the first Grandson on both sides of the family so you should have little trouble guessing my real name. :)
Brian Damage 03-11-2007, 09:33 PM My eldest daughter's middle name is Nicole. She was given that name to honor my wife's twin sister who died at birth. My other daughter's middle name is Grace, because she was a grace from God after months of trying to get pregnant.
tdf4077 03-11-2007, 09:50 PM I was fated to love M*A*S*H as my parents loved the show, and with their favorite character being Klinger, they named me after his actor, Jamie Farr.
Should I ever have a male child of my own, my absolute favorite name is Max (also after Klinger lol)
Already Gone 03-11-2007, 10:21 PM My mother wanted to name me after her favorite aunt and a close friend of the family so that's how I got to be named Katherine Alice.
Janice 03-11-2007, 11:51 PM My parents named me Janice because I was born in January. That seems silly, but whatever, I'm happy with my name. My middle name is Eileen, after my aunt, who also was my Godmother.
Brieannas21 03-12-2007, 12:03 AM My mom named me after a character in a book that she was reading.

Zoneboy 03-12-2007, 12:38 AM Ha ha, well I am not going to reveal my last name; but it is a very common one, with a different spelling; that is all I am going to say;)
I know, I would never expect anyone here to reveal their last name.
Number 9 Dream 03-12-2007, 08:13 AM Nope, I wasn't named after anyone special :D My Dad wanted us all (us meaning my three brothers and I) to have 'K' names, and my name was a unique spelling (Kristel).
My brother Kalin, however, was a name taken out of a novel my Dad read :)
Penny Lane 03-12-2007, 09:53 AM I was named Marlene after the German song "Lily Marlene" and my middle name Mae after my Mother's middle name.
We named our daughter Katherine Mary after 2 great grandmother's.
Our Son Joseph William after 2 great grandfather's.

I named my son after a tv character and of course he doesn't like his name.
"Keith"
Ireneparalegal 03-12-2007, 03:43 PM My oldest daughter is named Nina. I chose that name when I was 7 years old. I seen a kids show and one of the girl's name was Nina. I loved it because I had never heard it and it was unique. I then heard the name again on All My Children. It was weird how I knew at such a young age that I would want that name for my daughter someday.
My other daughter is named after her paternal grandmother.
My son is named after my fave blues guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
TripperFan 03-12-2007, 04:50 PM My middle name is Patricia - after my aunt and the older I get the more proud and honoured I am to bear it.
Had I ever had a son, I wanted to call him Tyler James - my father's name was James (but shhhhh - it would have been more after Jimi Hendrix) ;)
Always wanted to name a kid "Exit". That way, if they grew up to become an actor, their name would be up in lights in every theatre of the country!
My mom named me after her two favorite writers: Emily Bronte and Emily Dickinson. She gave me the middle name Lenore which is also her middle name and her mom's middle name. :)

That's not weird. My mom had my name planned ever since she read Wuthering Heights as a kid.
dawsongirl 03-12-2007, 10:54 PM Nope. I am named after absolutely no one. wooo
Zoneboy 03-13-2007, 12:26 AM My mom named me after her two favorite writers: Emily Bronte and Emily Dickinson. She gave me the middle name Lenore which is also her middle name and her mom's middle name. :)
Lenore is a name you don't hear very often and I've only known one in all my 42 years. I had a crush on her in elementary school but I moved and never knew what became of her. :(
cmcb06 03-13-2007, 03:26 AM Well, after i was adopted when I was 5 by my grandparents on my mothers side after my father had died in a car crash and my mother was admitted into a sanitarium. My first name was changed from Blake, to Chris. I was named after my moronic brother. GOD I hate my name lol.
theshark8777 03-13-2007, 07:18 PM I was named after a Soap Opera...

Yeah, there really aren't many of us. I've only ever met one other. I like my middle name. It's very uncommon but everyone seems to know it. :)
Courtnee 03-13-2007, 09:29 PM My eldest daughter's middle name is Nicole. She was given that name to honor my wife's twin sister who died at birth. My other daughter's middle name is Grace, because she was a grace from God after months of trying to get pregnant.
Aw, that's sweet.
My middle name is Nicole, too.
I don't think I was named after anyone. My parents just liked my name
Crimson and Clover 03-14-2007, 03:45 PM I was named after my great aunt Mary. Lors middle names are Melanie (for Wills mother) Rosa (for my grandmother)
Ohio8 03-14-2007, 05:39 PM I was named after my paternal grandfather (first name) and my maternal grandfather (middle name), and my brother was named after my mom's father (first name) and one of our paternal greatgrandfathers (middle name).
Yooch 03-14-2007, 06:16 PM I liked Daniel from the Bible, so I named my son Daniel. No one else in our family has ever had that name. It is a common name, but unique to my family.
My son's middle name is Joseph, again after the biblical Old Testament Joseph. However, in this case, there are many Josephs in our family, too numerous to mention. Numerous or not, I also happened to like the name.
*MIBabe03* 03-15-2007, 01:32 PM I was partially named after my mom's best friend Laurie. They probably would have named me that, but it didn't sound good with our last name so they named me Laura instead. Laurie named her daughter Madeleine after my mom. Same spelling and everything.
I was named after my great aunt Mary. Lors middle names are Melanie (for Wills mother) Rosa (for my grandmother)
I was wondering about how you came up with the name Lor? That's such a cool name. I don't think I've ever heard it before. :)
Michael [hXc] 03-15-2007, 08:22 PM My dad is completely of Italian heritage and wanted to give me a name that reflects that. Some of his choices were Carmine, Anthony, Mario, and Francesco. and if I was a girl, I would have been named Gianna. My mom wanted me to have a typical American name, so she chose Michael. I was not named after anyone when it comes to that, but my middle name is Joseph, which is my dad's name.
If my dad knew that Gianna is Italian for my mom's sister's name (Jane), he would NOT have even suggested that for a female child.

My boyfriend is of Italian heritage. His dad chose the name Mario, because nobody else has that in their family.

Well my husband actually thought he made it up, but I looked it up one day and it is a latin word that means to bloom.

:) Aww, that's pretty. :)
treky 03-18-2007, 03:52 AM My middle name is "Milton" after my Uncle Milt.
I used to work with a guy (he was a total ***hole!) who I mistakengly told what my middle name is, and he would make fun of me by calling me "Milton the monster" (that was a cartoon show in the 60s).
Fortunately, the guy got fired.
swedeace 03-18-2007, 11:37 AM My first name came from the female version of my dad's name. My middle name is after my godmother who I never got to know. She died when I was young is what I heard.

I always wondered if it was short for Lori or something. I guess because it looks really short. That's interesting!
