View Full Version : What make and model car did Darrin Stephens drive in the first season of Bewitched? SusieDerkins05 03-10-2007, 06:57 PM Any response is greatly appreciated! Thank you! Larry Tate 03-11-2007, 11:37 AM In the first 4 seasons of the show there were two sponsors for Bewitched, Quaker Oats & Chevrolet, so as a result all of the cars on the show were from the sponsor Chevrolet. In addition there were commercials of specific cars as part of the original sponsor animated openings that were used when the show originally aired. Larry Tate :) MichaelKeith 03-13-2007, 01:10 PM :D In season one, Darrin drove a Chevelle/Malibu convertible, 1964. In the later Dick York years, he usually drove a Camaro '67-'68. Larry Tate usually drove an Impala/Caprice. comedyfreak 03-14-2007, 08:08 AM Larry also drove a corvette if I'm not mistaken. Dusty's Fan 03-14-2007, 08:15 AM The Stephens Family also had a station wagon. In the episode in which astroturf is mistakenly laid down to replace their lawn, Samantha is driving a blue convertible while Darrin (Dick York) drives the station wagon. SusieDerkins05 03-15-2007, 10:48 PM Thank you all so much! i absolutely love classic cars and am just getting into them! :) Larry Tate 03-16-2007, 01:13 PM Saw this on a Message Board, nice compilation, interesting information: Here is the list of Darrin and Samantha's various cars during the eight year run. Also included are Larry Tate's cars. This is the most accurate list I could compile. As I noted before, the convertible seen in the pilot/episode #1 was a 1964 Ford Thunderbird due to the fact Chevrolet had not signed on as a sponsor until the show was sold to ABC in the fall of 1964. From episode #2 to #254 the Stephens were loyal customers at Westport's local Chevy dealer. The only deviation from this was the 1970 Sierra Yellow Pontiac Bonneville convertible they drove in episode #203 "Salem Saga." I suppose the Avis desk at the Salem airport didn't have any Chevrolets available that day. 1.1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Super Sport convertible (black & white season, color uncertain)-The Chevelle was a new model in 1964 so Chevrolet was anxious to promote it. 2.1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Super Sport convertible (black & white season, color uncertain, darker than 1964 model) 3.1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa convertible (black & white season, color uncertain)-The Corvair was extensively restyled for 1965 so Chevrolet was eager to have potential buyers see it. 4.1965 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe (black & white season, color uncertain)This car was seen in episode #26 "Driving Is the Only Way to Fly" and is the car Harold Harold (Paul Lynde in his first Bewitched appearance) taught Samantha how to drive in. The name of the driving school was Reliable Driving School. 5.1966 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe (first car in '66-'67 Color season) Willow Green 6.1966 Chevrolet Impala station wagon (appeared only in episode #90 "Soapbox Derby" driven by Samantha to take Johnny Mills soapbox racer to the track) Mist Blue 7.1967 Chevrolet Camaro convertible (again, a new model this year to be heavily promoted) Nantucket Blue w/white convertible top 8.1968 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport convertible Grotto Blue w/white convertible top 9.1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Concours station wagon (first seen being polished by Abner Kravitz in episode #121 "My What Big Ears You Have" and seen that same season later driven by, oddly enough, Darrin in episode #131 "How Green Was My Grass") Palomino Ivory 10.1969 Chevrolet Caprice Custom Coupe (car driven to rush Samantha to the hospital to give birth to Adam) Dusk Blue w/Dark Blue vinyl roof 11.1969 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport convertible Rallye Green w/Black convertible top 12.1970 Chevrolet Impala convertible (the car "Super Arthur" tried to drive) Misty Turquoise w/Black convertible top 13.1970 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport coupe (another restyled model to be promoted but seen in episode #209 "Samantha's Pet Warlock) Astro Blue w/Dark Blue vinyl roof 14.1971 Chevrolet Impala convertible (seen only in episode #241 "Three Men and a Witch on a Horse) Tuxedo Black w/Black convertible top 15.1972 Chevrolet Impala convertible (seen only in episode #249 "George Washington Zapped Here, Part One) Sequoia Green w/White convertible top Larry Tate: 1.1965 Chevrolet Caprice Custom Sedan (black & white season, color uncertain)The Caprice was a new model for 1965 introduced in the middle of the model year. 2.1966 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon (black & white season, color uncertain)The 1966 Caprice station wagon was Chevrolet's first wagon to use wood side paneling since the early '50's. This car was seen driven by Larry in episode #65 "Disappearing Samantha" only. I guess Louise decided she, Larry and Johnathan couldn't all fit in Larry's Corvette. 3.1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Goodwood Green 4.1968 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Custom Coupe (driven by Larry in episode #152 "Weep No More My Willow") Matador Red w/Black vinyl roof 5.1969-1970 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (the one everyone associates with "Cotton Top")Last seen in episode #247 "Serena's Youth Pill". Daytona Yellow That's about it as far as I know. Hope someone enjoys this. "See the USA in your Chevrolet!" TV Knowledge Fan 03-16-2007, 02:10 PM ....General Motors' Chevrolet division was the primary sponsor during the first five seasons, with Quaker Oats as alternate sponsor [this is why there were so many breakfast scenes, and a lot of domestic animals seen from time to time- they owned 'Ken-L-Ration' and 'Puss 'n' Boots' pet foods as well]. Chevrolet was also the corporate sponsor of the annual "Soap Box Derby", and this is why an entire episode was focused around one in 1966. Even after their sponsorship ended in 1969, GM continued to provide Chevys for outdoor sequences (and that stray Pontiac during the Salem location in 1970). Bristol-Myers' Clairol division and Oscar Meyer were regular sponsors during the final three seasons. :tv: Larry Tate 03-17-2007, 12:51 PM Actually the initial & Primary Sponsor for Bewitched was Quaker Oats & then they brought Chevrolet in & they in effect split sponsorship of the show 50/50 for the first 4 seasons alternating week to week. I am pretty sure that both stopped Sponsoring Bewitched after Season 4 & Kodak came in for Season 5. As well Ban, Bufferin, & Excedrin were sponsors the last 3 years. Larry Tate :) catlover79 03-20-2007, 11:54 PM Darrin always drove the coolest cars!! Wouldn't mind driving one of them myself!! :D |
