View Full Version : Which episode made you cry the most?
A.D.A. Casey Novak 03-08-2007, 01:04 PM First of all, I am NOT talking about which episode you felt was the saddest. I am talking about which episode evoked real-life tears, getting all choked up, etc.
Which one made you you feel EMOTIONALLY sad?
I have a couple, but I'd like to see what yours' are first.
krazykay 03-08-2007, 01:45 PM Hmmmmm...There are a few of them...But I was watcing 'Sweet Sorrow' yesterday for the first time in about 2 months, and by the end of the show, I was sobbing and clinging to my blanket which was drenched in tears. :crying:
I forgot how sad that episode made me feel because I was in a relationship like Jo had with Eddie at the time and it reminded me how much it does hurt to give up someone you love so much. There are a few, but I have to rack my brain to remember them due to my horrible memory...Lol.
Nighthawk76 03-08-2007, 02:05 PM I'm going to go with my favorite episode "Teacher's Pet". I think anyone who has lost someone who is close to them can relate to what Jo goes through in this episode. I know I sure do. I have never been more moved by an a episode of a sitcom then I am everytime I watch "Teacher's Pet". This episode is proof as to how well "Facts" brilliantly balanced comedy and drama.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 03-08-2007, 04:45 PM Two episodes that equally got to me was "Less Than Perfect" and "Breaking Point". I keep hearing how sad "Teacher's Pet" was but I've never seen it. I'm dying to though!!!

I've seen 'Teacher's Pet' a few times, but I can never remember what it's about...And I always hear people saying how sad it is and see the qoutes people post from that episode and it makes me want to see it even more than I already do...I have horrible memory and that's the reason why I can't seem to remember any of the episodes past the fifth season...And it sucks! Lol.
But I'm sure it's an amazing episode because everyone talks about it...So we'll just have to wait until either N@N starts showing it on their network, or until it comes out on dvd...:(

KELL! I HAD THE WHOLE EP ON MY VIDEO THREAD! I DON'T THINK IT'S ACCESSABLE ANYMORE, BUT CHECK. I DOWNLOADED IT TO MY ROOMMATES COMPUTER. TELL YA WHAT, IF I CAN, I'LL SEND IT TO YA. OK, JINNYGIRL:)
IN FACT, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THE THREAD, BECAUSE I THINK I DO HAVE A CLIP OF IT ON THERE. JUST CHECK WHERE I HAVE ALL THE EP'S TOGETHER. LET ME KNOW IF YOU SAW ANYTHING.

IT'S THE EP WHERE JO'S TEACHER, WHOM SHE IS VERY CLOSE TO, IS DYING OF CANCER. JO IS NOT AWARE OF THIS IMMEDIATELY. IT IS A VERY MOVING EP. I CAN JUST HEAR MRS. G-"JO. SHE'S DYING." AND THEN JO'S LOOK:crying:
CHECK MY VIDEO THREAD TO SEE IF I HAVE A CLIP OR THE ENTIRE EP.

Omg...that is so weird, as soon as you said 'dying of cancer' parts of that episode flashed in front of my eyes...Lol...I remember that part of the show when Mrs. G tells Jo that the teacher was dying...And I remember Jo was crying ALOT and she was saying all this stuff like what's the use of living and saying stuff about life and death...It WAS sad!
Now I want to see that show even more! And the link on your video thread isn't working...I was really looking forward to seeing that episode...Lol...Well, I guess I'm just gonna have to be patient...:) Thanks for the help anyway!
I Love Lamp 03-08-2007, 10:16 PM I have a couple, but I'd like to see what yours' are first.
I can't say I've seen one that's made me cry yet. I'd like to, though. What are yours?
JO jr 03-08-2007, 10:31 PM It Will Be The One I Have Yet To See.
krazykay 03-08-2007, 10:46 PM It Will Be The One I Have Yet To See.
Really? I thought you'd have a list! I'm not saying you cry alot or something, but there are so many episodes where you can't possible be tear free by the end of...Are you sure there is not one that has made you tear up quite a bit at least? Lol...:talk:

OH, I DIDN'T SAY THAT I NEVER CRIED OR I WASN'T LEFT EMOTIONALLY DRAINED.
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE WOULD CATCH WHAT I SAID. I GUESS YOU MAY NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHY I WOULD SAY THAT. I ACTUALLY HAVE ANSWERS, BUT "IT'S DEEP THOUGHTS" WITH JO jr. I'M SO  I KNOW;)
canuckkidd 03-09-2007, 02:36 PM No episode has ever made me cry but the season five episode "a death in the family" came the closest. I could relate to the whole episode and how Natalie must of felt. It was very eerie how similar the episode was to how I was feeling when I lost somebody very close to me. It is one episode that I had a hard time watching and may not ever watch again.
I Love Lamp 03-11-2007, 04:18 AM A.D.A Casey Novak?
JoPol_wannabe 03-11-2007, 06:51 PM There is a couple eps that I cried at
The one where Jo and Eddie break up- Nancy is such a good actress when she cries she makes it look so believeable you can't help it but cry with her
A death in the family- Once Natalie starts to cry I always feel sorry for her and cry with her
The ep where Mrs. G leaves Its just so sad knowing it's her last ep. I always cry when she talks to each of the girls and how much they meant to her
The ep where Jo leaves for California even thought she doesn't really leave the show I still cry when she hugs everyone just before she leaves
Less than Perfect- there's two parts that make me cry. Well the first part make me cry just a little bit the part when there at the hospital and Casey comes running in asking how she is and gets so mad that he didn't get his car checked weeks ago and the other part is when Blair see's that big scratch on her forehead and starts to cry that really gets me.
FOL85NatandMrsGRock 03-12-2007, 09:49 AM i too always cry on the episodes Out of Peekskill 1 and 2 becuase there are the most touching moments between the girls and mrs. garrett... *sigh* i haven't seen this episode in a long time, maybe i should dig it out and have a good cry... i also shed a tear in The Interview Show a couple of times becuase each of the girls share their experiences with eachother and mrs. g... and it's just great to hear them talk about eachother in that light and natalie talks about the death of her father as welll... and then mrs. g's interview!! I love both of these shows!
While Teacher's Pet is a good episode, i never cried during it, i have seen this episode all too much, it is sad though...
genrethan 03-12-2007, 11:03 AM Already stated, but "Breaking Point" (that is the one where a new girl commits suicide, correct?) for me...no other episodes, but give me a break I'm a guy so crying at even one and admitting it is a big deal. All in fun.
catlover79 07-15-2007, 11:29 PM "Breaking Point" - it's so chilling that none of the girls caught on that anything was wrong with their classmate.
Nighthawk76 07-16-2007, 12:07 AM "Breaking Point" - it's so chilling that none of the girls caught on that anything was wrong with their classmate.
"Breaking Point" is one of my favorite episodes. I think that it handles the subject of suicide really well. I think that when you see the episode a few times, you begin to see that Cynthia does drop a few clues here and there that everything is not all right with her. I think when she gives Tootie the necklace is a good example. However, any signs that Cynthia does show are so small, they are really nothing that Mrs. Garrett or the girls would ever have picked up on. Sadly, this is often the way it is in real life too. :(

Well said! When Tootie found Cynthia and became hysterical, it gave me chills.

Mike, thanks for making me watch that. Wouldn't have been the same hearing about it.
ecb1117 07-19-2007, 04:37 PM I don't think any of them have made actual tears fall out of my eyes, but a few did make my eyes water...
Double Standard (when Jo comes back and has that talk with Mrs. G)
Fear Strikes Back (when Natalie comes back from the party)
FOL Goes to Paris (when Jo walks into the airport, crying, and trying to hide it from Blair)
Teacher's Pet (Nancy McKeon = amazing)
Sweet Sorrow (once again, Nancy McKeon = amazing)
there could be more that I'm forgetting at the moment
Willowey 07-20-2007, 07:32 AM I agree with you, ecb1117. Nancy Mckeon is great! I'm way too far from having seen all the episodes, but the one that actaully got my choked up the most was The New Girl part two when Jo is talking to Mrs. Garrett at the end of the episode. I love it when Jo cries. It's so emotional.
ecb1117 07-20-2007, 05:56 PM Ohh, I forgot about that one! That made me teary-eyed also. Nancy is so good. Whenever I'm watching her do an emotional scene, I always have to remind myself that I'm watching a young girl girl do that. I mean when she first came on in season 2, she was only 14. It amazes me. She has so much talent, she can make you laugh and then make you cry the next minute...and at 14 years old!
I haven't seen all the episodes either, so I'm sure more will go onto my list once I do!
ABlairican Pie 07-22-2007, 03:22 AM "Less Than Perfect". That was the most heartbreaking episode. I was in tears when I first saw that one. My heart just went out to Blair in that episode. :crying:

That's a great episode. Lisa did a really great job in "Less Than Perfect".
Willowey 07-25-2007, 10:54 AM "Less Than Perfect". That was the most heartbreaking episode. I was in tears when I first saw that one. My heart just went out to Blair in that episode. :crying:
I also agree. Lisa Whelchel did an awesome job in that episode. When she threw the tray across the hospital room, my heart literally jumped.
Classicshowsgurl15 08-14-2007, 10:09 PM Not very many have made me cry, but I did cry on Seems Like Old Times and Less Than Perfect.
RoryGilmore 08-15-2007, 10:51 AM yeah I defiently cried in Seemes like Old Times and I also shed a tear or two at the end of Sweet Sorrow well hell almost anytime they had Jo crying I was on the verge of tears
Smartboy 08-17-2007, 06:11 PM Those of you who have read my most recent post know how "crazy" I was about Natelie! Well, I am not sure of the title of this episode, but I have a "very" vived memory of it. It was towards the very end of the series and Natelie and Tootie were staying with friends in New York for a few days. The thing that sticks out in my mind about this episode is that Natelie's purse was stollen. I could "really" feel for Natelie when she said, "what is this, I have a purse strap with no purse? There was a purse attatched to this strap"! I felt as if a real-life, decent affectionate young lady got her purse stollen! I thought that that episode was "very" well done!

Good list! I was also thinking Fear Strikes Back for the same scene. The first one that came to mind, however, was Teacher's Pet. It will be on the Season 4 dvd so let's hope we get it soon. Death in the Family, like someone else mentioned, is another one.
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 08-28-2007, 08:10 PM It's been forever since I've posted, but I recently started digging through my FOL stuff, again...
#1 that ALWAYS made me cry: Breaking Point.
--I'm actually really surprised that "Teacher's Pet" had the response it did, though. I mean, I wasn't unaffected by it, and a lot of my friends are teachers...so I'm more surprised that my reaction wasn't the same!
Others:
pretty much ANY when Jo cries. She's not my favorite character or anything, but...it's always so sad.
Out of Peekskill...:'(

--The beginning of the Beginning- the scene where Blair talks with uliette Lewis
RoryGilmore 09-24-2007, 05:34 PM yeah, I think all of those got me as well
Willowey 09-24-2007, 10:38 PM I just watched Out of Peekskill last night and that almost made me cry. It got a lump in my throat. Mrs. Garrett was really important to those girls and vice versa.
catlover79 12-22-2007, 02:17 PM "Less Than Perfect". That was the most heartbreaking episode. I was in tears when I first saw that one. My heart just went out to Blair in that episode. :crying:
I haven't seen this one. What happened?
Nighthawk76 12-22-2007, 11:08 PM I haven't seen this one. What happened?
It is a 9th season episode in which Blair is invloved in an auto accident. I don't want to tell you anything more and ruin the episode for you when you finally get to see it.
Dean Winchester 01-07-2008, 08:18 PM I admit to getting a little choked up in Graduation Pt. 2 when Jo suddenly takes it in that it's the end of an era and starts flashing back to the good memories of Blair, Natalie and Tootie.
It's been ages since I've seen it, but the end of Rites Of Passage was pretty emotional too from what I recall, with Jo's motorcycle being overheard in the distance. That episode truly felt more like a series finale than the one we got the next year.

Omg that one got me too, it's hit me harder this year since I'm a senior and I'm from a really small town and I'm leaving all my friends, So now I'm gonna go watch graduation.
Nat's #1 Fan 07-28-2008, 05:32 PM - Any episode where Jo cried. She wasn't my favorite character, but any time she cried, I would cry because unlike the other girls who had crying scenes, you could really feel Jo's pain and her tears were real. She did the best job of crying on cue :) .
- Death in the Family: First off, since Natalie is my favorite character, I was pretty much on the brink of tears during the whole thing and then when she had that moment with her mom, sobbing and saying how scared she was and asking how was she going to be able to go on without him, I lost it. I just wanted to give her a hug through the TV or something. Also, when I was a freshman in high school, I lost my grandma and we'd been pretty close, especially when I was little, so seeing the episode just brought back all I'd felt when she died :( .
- Out Of Peekskill, during the part where Mrs. G says good-bye to the girls and tells each of them what they taught her and what she liked the most about them.
- The end of the season 8 finale, when Jo hugs all the girls good-bye before she goes to LA. It wouldn't have been so sad if it hadn't been for that sappy music in the background. When I first saw the episode, I thought this was the series finale but was proved wrong when another season came on. This episode definitely felt more like a series finale than the one we got.
jo's sister 07-28-2008, 06:12 PM i cry when tottie jermaine jack son concert and my favorite is sweet sworr
pfeifferobsessed 07-29-2008, 06:00 AM the one thats gets to me the most is definitely "less than perfect"...when blair sees the cut on her forehead and tells her little white dress story!
ABlairican Pie 07-29-2008, 08:04 AM - Any episode where Jo cried. She wasn't my favorite character, but any time she cried, I would cry because unlike the other girls who had crying scenes, you could really feel Jo's pain and her tears were real. She did the best job of crying on cue :) .
Nancy's ability to cry and get emotional was the reason why they chose her to play Jo in the first place. Back around 1980, they saw her on this tearjerker Hallmark commercial and said they had found their girl to complete the lineup.
So much for Jo being the "tough" girl. ;)
painmakeyourway 07-29-2008, 09:21 AM "Less Than Perfect" and "Rites of Passage Pt. 2" got me good. "Less Than Perfect" because I think it was one of the few times Blair cried for real. Lisa did such an awesome job of playing heartbroken Blair. It was really deep. Obviously Blair would be devastated when her legendary looks were marred, but it kind of went beyond mere vanity. Her beauty was her identity (I think even more than her money--but just a little more), who she was, and she thought it was irrevocably damaged. Her entire world was shaken, and Lisa portrayed that flawlessly.
Rites of Passage got me because it seemed like everything was really over for the girls. I think I've said this before but I really wish that episode (Rites of Passage) had been the end of FOL. I hated the 9th season in general (with a few notable exceptions that could have been written into the 8th) and the series finale in particular...Anyway, it was perfect...Jo going cross country, and everyone realizing that their lives had changed forever, that life was over as they knew it. Not soon after, everyone else would have left, too, and that would have been it. PLUS they had that ridiculously sappy music going...and Blair hugs Jo like her life is ending. I love that!
3 other things that made me a little teary:
-The last scene in The Christmas Show, when Blair comes back. I think it's so sweet, and I love how Jo is so happy to see her.
-When Mrs. G marries Bruce and leaves. They loved her like a mother, and she was more of a parent to them than their real parents.
-when Jo asked Blair to be her maid of honor. That was so awesome. You could tell Blair was so pleased to be asked.
Then there were a few times when I almost cried out of anger and disgust, i.e. when they first opened 'Over Our Heads' (was that not the most god-awful store EVER?) and when Jo married Rick (I hated Rick, and the whole thing just seemed so rushed).
wow, that was alot longer than I intended...it's quite easy for me to get carried away when discussing FOL...
ChocolateBananas 10-13-2008, 07:17 PM The first episode that came to mind when I read the subject title was "Teacher's Pet." :(
LoveMrsG 10-13-2008, 08:10 PM I think you're all hitting the nail on the head..."Breaking Point," "Teacher's Pet," "Sweet Sorrow," "Less Than Perfect"...I haven't seen the "Rites of Passage" episodes yet. I also LOVED "Graduation" (from Eastland, I mean.) Actually, to tell the truth though, NONE of these episodes actually reduced me to tears, but that's because in the realm of fiction, because I'm always trying to write something or work on some sort of story in my head, I have to invest so much emotional energy into the fiction world that I can't afford to cry every time I see a really emotional scene. It's HARD for me to see something that would make me cry for real. However, I am very touched and moved by all the episodes you all have mentioned. Another would be "Seems Like Old Times" when Eddie returns and doesn't tell Jo until the end of the episode that he's gotten married. Another more poignant episode (I think anyway) is "The Affair." I LOVE the scene between Nat and Mrs. Garrett when Natalie finally breaks down and starts crying after she's learned about her dad's affair and Mrs. Garrett wraps her arms around her and Natalie asks, "Mrs. Garrett, what am I gonna do? I feel like I'm gonna die." I also really love the point that somebody made that in "Less Than Perfect," Blair's beauty was more than just physical appearance and vanity...her beauty was one of the biggest parts of her identity. I couldn't have said that any better myself! It's also one of my favorites.
ChocolateBananas 10-14-2008, 05:20 PM I LOVE the scene between Nat and Mrs. Garrett when Natalie finally breaks down and starts crying after she's learned about her dad's affair and Mrs. Garrett wraps her arms around her and Natalie asks, "Mrs. Garrett, what am I gonna do? I feel like I'm gonna die."I agree, that was very sad. :( This is kind of a random question, and I feel like I might be making this scene up (LOL), but was "The Affair" the episode were Mrs. G said something like, "That's not love. That's a nasty little game called staying together for the children." I know that dialogue is probably WAY off, but I remember her saying something similiar, but I am totally blanking on the episode...

No you got the dialogue right but it wasn't from "The Affair." It was from "Molly's Holiday" when Molly has to deal with her parents' divorce from the first season.

Thank you so much!!! It was bugging me. I don't know why I didn't think of coming here sooner for an answer! Thanks again!
Nanc and Lisa! 10-14-2008, 08:21 PM Any of the scenes where Nancy is crying always gets me emotional. She has the amazing ability to cry on cue and everytime she does it she is so believable and convincing. She is my hero!

You're more than welcome. :)

yeah...shes pretty great...but if lisa even makes a pouty face at all, im like "AWE"!
Nanc and Lisa! 10-15-2008, 02:46 PM lol I agree with you.
LoveMrsG 10-15-2008, 03:14 PM Sorry, but whenever Blair pouts or does one of her stupid whimpers or long-winded sighs, I just roll my eyes. Crying for Blair isn't the same thing as crying is for Jo. When Jo is actually upset enough to cry, it's over something that's actually important and I think that's why it makes so many of us cry with her. Jo was the most real of all the girls, in my opinion. But that's just my two bits. :) It doesn't exactly break my heart when Blair starts crying and kicking on the bed like a 2-year-old when Harrison asks Jo to the dance instead of her. It does hurt my heart though when Jo has to learn the hard lesson for a lot of women in our society to learn in "Sweet Sorrow," that sometimes she has to put her own needs before the needs of those she loves the most, and totally loses it when she has to break up with Eddie and Mrs. G. is holding her while she cries.
Nanc and Lisa! 10-15-2008, 10:54 PM LovemrsG, I got emotional just reading your post. Although I ADORE Blair and her amazing acting abilities and think she is absolutely wonderful, I think that Jo has hit the nail on the head in terms of the sentimental, emotional, heartfelt scenes that she is acting in. When she cries, you just feel her hurt and her emotions and you want to cry right along with her. Nancy is my favorite actress of all time(Lisa is right up there) and one of the reasons I love her so much is that she can cry about something or express her feelings about something she is passionate about and I believe and feel what she is feeling. She has an amazing way of conncecting with her audiences. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones where Jo really lets down her guards about things and shows the audience that she isnt so tough all the time and she has the power to bring you to tears, literally and I just think that she is amazing. I've never seen an actor or actress who has that talent to make you bring up those emotions like Nancy does. I can be laughing my butt off from one of her sarcastic lines and then be driven to tears the next because I just want to be like her so much. She is a great role model and I look up to her with everything that I have in me. She means the world to me and I adore the fact that she can make me laugh, and she can also make me feel exactly what she is going through if she is upset about something. I don't know if you all watch "The Division"(if you dont you are missing out on some of Nancy's best moments) but Nancy has had some scenes that are so well done they seem real and when she is telling Magda that she is sorry for drinking when Mag was almost killed in that back alley, she has tears streaming down her face and you can just tell that her character is so sorry for what she has done). I know ive gotten off track here but i'm just saying that nancy has an ability to move a person when she has those scenes whether it be "Facts" or any of her other shows and movies. LoveMrsG, I think you put your words very well in that post. I agree with you completely and I really did get emotional just reading it because it really does hurt your heart when you see Jo in a vulnerable place like she usually is not in. I also think that Blair has some good serious, emotional moments too, I especially like the ones with Jo in them as well. She and Blair can really do serious acting very well together.
painmakeyourway 10-18-2008, 06:31 PM Blair does an adorable pouty face, but Nancy wins every prize for emotional scenes, since she can cry on cue and be convincing.
Nanc and Lisa! 10-19-2008, 12:14 AM i TOTALLY agree with you! I love watching those scenes especially!
senrab 09-14-2010, 04:39 PM Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just got into watching this show again. I remember seeing the later episodes as a kid when they were on in syndication (early 90s maybe) but had never seen most of the series. I watched Teacher's Pet for the first time this past weekend and it turned me into Niagara Falls, LOL. Maybe because Jo's reactions (getting angry, running away, and then having a massive breakdown) remind me of myself a little bit. Also, this shows just how gifted Nancy McKeon is because most TV shows or movies don't make me cry.

This is an old thread, but still a great topic! I haven't watched "Teacher's Pet" since I first saw it several years ago mainly because it was so emotional for me to watch the first time and it makes my heart hurt think of watching it again. I should though since I haven't finished my season 4 dvd set yet. I agree Nancy McKeon is an amazing actress, and Jo is the character that makes me cry the most. I also cried in the episode where Natalie's father died (another amazing episode, but one I just don't have the heart to watch very often.)
Natalie1969 09-15-2010, 01:58 PM I lost one of my favorite professors in college to cancer so I am reminded of her when I watch Teachers pet. And I thought 53 was young but the character of Gail is 26!!

You are right, 53 still is young. The actress playing Gail wasn't believable as a 26 year-old but that's a minor criticism. I thought she was in her late 30s.
PartyOfOne 06-12-2012, 10:02 PM "Breaking Point" - it's so chilling that none of the girls caught on that anything was wrong with their classmate.
Although very poorly handled, I would agree it was chilling. It was also definitely not suited for it's audience.
fol_fan1989 06-13-2012, 12:07 AM "Teacher's Pet" was the episode that made me cry the most, especially the part where Jo breaks down. Nancy was so great in that episode.
Ihavealife2uknow 06-17-2012, 04:44 AM Fear Strikes Back is the episode that gets me the most because that type of situation is terrifying and would definitely cause someone to react like Natalie did. The scene where Natalie tells them what happened is so sad.
Johnny be good! 07-01-2012, 07:50 AM Definitely "Teacher's Pet".
YouTaketheGood.. 07-05-2012, 10:33 AM Breaking Point was super sad :( It shows you that even when it looks like someone has the perfect life.. they really don't.
Johnny be good! 08-22-2012, 10:45 AM Out Of Peekskill also brought quite a few tears. It showed how important the girls were and still are important to Edna.
