what kinds of episodes or dilemmas do you dislike or cannot stand watching in a sitcom? be it your favourite or whatever it is. for me, i hate episodes in any sitcom that deals or handles the issue of drugs. i'm sorry but although i can understand why the writers and directors may have gone ahead with it, believing that there is some funny side to it- drugs in itself is NOT an issue to be laughed at. when i watch episodes of my favourite sitcoms where the lead characters are on some 'trip' and are off their head, it makes me feels embarassing, not to mention cringeworthy and makes them- the actors- look stupid

I can't stand body switching (a la Freaky Friday) episodes. I bring this up because the Disney Channel recently did this w/ their live-action sitcoms. I also recall 8 Simple Rules during its last season during that.

Frasier has at least one "Ski Lodge" episode per season, and when re watching the DVD sets, I tend to skip them, because they all blur together at this point.

I also don't like it when the main character goes through something really bad. On The Jeff Foxworthy Show, season 1, it's only 18 episodes, and 1 episode I refuse to watch because they get cheated out of a cash prize by con artists.

I don't think such episodes are meant to give you that much to laugh about, but they're more about showing a message.

Episodes primarily involving removal of tonsils. They implicitly encouraged removal of tonsils and triumphing fears of removing them just because... they are infected with bacteria, virus, and other foreign halogen.

^I'm watching a Nanny episode about that right now. Where Fran has to have her's out. Eww.

I don't like drunk driving episodes. Except for the one they did on Full House. Because, it finally explained the whole "how Pam died" thing. We knew it was a car crash. But, didn't know it was because she was hit by a drunk driver.

I had my tonsils removed seventeen years ago. They were so disgustingly enlarged, that I could feel them with the tip of my tongue! I don't really regret having it done, and I don't mind sitcom episodes about someone having the procedure done. Even though I only remember two: Fran on "The Nanny" and Will on "The Fresh Prince".

Home Improvement- When Tim found drugs in the gazebo in the episode called "What A Drag" in season 7.

i can understand your point. even though it is a comedy, the issues are real, even if the situations and characters are not. it does give us a lot to ponder on.

Exactly. Two of my favorite sitcoms, "Family Matters" and "Fresh Prince", are mostly light-hearted comedy, but they also both have episodes about more serious issues, like drugs, violence, racism, dead-beat fathers and almost losing a family member. Those episodes maybe aren't the funniest, but they sure belong to the most memorable.

that's why they are all situations comedies or sitcoms for short. they are comedies involving a number of characters in different scenarios or situations. i do think sometimes with some shows, the longer it goes on and the more serious it is and less funnier it is, that can ruin the show. but it depends on the writing.

it's a jump the shark -type moment. i think as long as the relationship itself doesn't drag on and the 2 people don't remain together and married for the rest of the series, then i suppose it's not too bad.

I do not like any episode that has a bachelor/bachelorette party. Unfortunately they all seem to involve strippers. Some of us have morals and would NOT want that at our party, especially the day before we make a lifetime commitment to someone.

No, I absolutely don't like them together.

Any episode where the main characters go on vacation. Most of those episodes are devoid of any humor.

I can't stand the following situations in sitcoms:

1. Musical Episodes- The whole episode is about singing ( love The Partridge Family though!)
2. Period Episodes- Where the characters go back to like 19th Century England. Bores me to tears
3. Thanksgiving episodes- Ugh. These just suck

Any episode that ends where say one husband tries to tell his wife the truth about something and she doesn't believe them (like being kidnapped). The wife gets mad at him and/or thinks they are nuts.

It is more torable when the situation starts at the middle point of the episode and than the wife or husband realizes what the husband or wife says the truth and apologizes.

This is why I was not impressed by The Facts of Life when I saw that minisode from Sony's second-season release of Barney Miller (the Sony second-season release of Barney Miller being within Shout!'s full-series release of the same). I felt like I was being told to agree with the message that was being put across-- beat over the head, if you will.

Any episode that has a ridiculous or outlandish plot lines

I hate when episodes take place at amusement parks, I think Full House and Family Matters had episodes of the families going to Disney Land/World only because Disney owns ABC.

Another trend I hate which were common in the 80's and 90's were clip/flashback episodes.

Totally agree with the 2nd one. I can't even sit through 5 minutes of an episode like that.

I don't like flashback episodes to when they first met or those live episodes that Drew Carey had. Those were just stupid! I refuse to watch those.

The absolute worst to me (with the possible exception of flashback episodes that feature clips from previous episodes) are the episodes that revolve around a character being in a look alike contest of the actor that they're portrayed by. I mean how ridiculous can you get?!?!!!!:confused: I know that The Doris Day Show and Sanford & Son both had episodes like that. I think one of the Lucille Ball's shows did too.
