Troubled pop star Britney Spears reportedly believes she doesn't need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse because she is suffering from postpartum depression.

The “Toxic” singer has been in rehab in Malibu, California, for two weeks and is furious with friends and family for making her seek counseling.

A source tells Us Weekly magazine, "She's convinced she's suffering from postpartum depression and does not think she has an alcohol or drug problem.

"She's angry at her family and her manager for pressuring her to enter the program. She feels she was ambushed."

Spears checked in to Promises Residential Treatment Center on Feb. 21, after several months of hard partying.

A source says doctors are still concerned about her condition, saying, "They're in shock at what bad shape she's in."

The 25-year-old has reportedly not been on her best behavior at the facility.

A source adds, "(She) has been getting in tons of trouble. (She's) been reprimanded for making cell phone calls, has left the facility to shop, and now she wants to leave rehab for good."

She seems to be doing pretty good judging by the pictures of her in there.

I'm guessing PPD and the partying was a way of acting out on it.

Looks like Britney was never punished as a kid, becasue she certainly doesn't like to be told what she can and cannot do.

Britney just needs to grow up, plain and simple. Life isn't about just her anymore. She has two babies she needs to concentrate on. Someone really needs to get some sense into this girl!!!

Still, PPD is not an excuse to party as hard as she did. Sounds like maybe she needs the rehab she's in, and needs to see a psychiatrist to deal with the PPD in a much better way. Brooke Shields got hers under control; Britney can too.

Everything is blamed on PPD lately. How ridiculous.
Being a mother myself I don't get how you can get depressed when there's not even time to think about yourself anymore.

if you're young, have 2 kids back to back, second one was unexpected and then your marriage ends when have 2 babies to take care of, i can see how one can suffer from PPD. I dont think its an excuse, its very common. Partying is no excuse for it, but it was probably her way of acting out.

It's very likely a chemical imbalance. Can't exactly predict or prevent that. Nor can you control it once it hits by just keeping busy or something.

:clap Well said!! That's the latest defence line anytime anyone gets into trouble. Find some "disorder" and blame your actions on that. Whatever happened to taking responsibilitiy for your own actions???

If she is suffering from PPD, I can understand. I suffered from PPD after my second daughter was born. However, the last thing I wanted to do was "party my butt off" or do anything remotely like that. So, I think she may think she is suffering from that, but my money is on alcohol use.

PPD is real, no doubt about that. I still believe a woman should have to suffer the consequences of her actions even if she has it. Like that animal who drowned her five kids. Okay she's nuts. Lock the nut up for the rest of her life.

Andrea Yates had Post-Partum Psychosis, but yeah, I agree. Britney shouldn't be coddled just because she has PPD. She still has a problem.
