ABC has pulled the low-rated freshman comedy "The Knights of Prosperity," leaving the show's remaining episodes in limbo.

The network announced on Monday (March 5) that the next three episodes of Donal Logue-centric heist comedy will be off the schedule, starting this Wednesday. The episode titled "Operation: Rent Money" will be replaced by a repeat of "According to Jim," while repeats of "George Lopez" will take the "Prosperity" slot the following two weeks.

ABC's scheduling release stops short of calling the series cancelled, but merely says "Not yet rescheduled" next to the three pulled episodes.

"Knights of Prosperity" had a bumpy road this season. ABC initially scheduled the series for a fall launch, but held it off until January, ostensibly to allow for additional promotional time. The comedy, focusing on a group of inept thieves plotting to rob Mick Jagger, was crushed by early episodes of "American Idol" in its original 9 p.m. ET time period and shifted to 8:30 p.m. without gaining any traction.

Despite somewhat positive reviews, through its first 8 airings, "Knights" averaged just over 5.03 million viewers.

ABC pierces armor of struggling 'Knights'

ABC is yanking The Knights of Prosperity from its schedule this week. But the struggling comedy may get a second life with a new white knight: Ray Romano. In last week's episode, he replaced Mick Jagger as the target of Knights' hapless burglars. ABC is considering a plan to renew the series for next season, adding new episodes featuring the Everybody Loves Raymond star to several already shot with him. Five remain from this season. Knights' Wednesday slot will be filled by repeats of According to Jim and George Lopez.

What do you mean by Romano Your Next

There are four episodes left in the 13-ep order. Check out the interview on thefutoncritic.com. I don't hold out much hope for renewal but ABC has to renew some comedies and Lopez and Jim are really long in the tooth as well as expensive for the low ratings they get.

ABC will relaunch either later this year or next fall and hype Ray Romano in it. He is their next target, as we saw in the last new episode. It was a great point to stop, now they can focus on a better night and away from American Idol.
I personally think they should run it after the 90-minute performance shows of Dancing with the Stars in the fall. What better than that show to follow? Stars dancing followed by people robbing stars, lol.

I don't think that would work. Last fall, they tried airing a sitcom right after Dancing With the Stars and it was cancelled after a few weeks. I think they should move it to Fridays and maybe get a TGIF lineup going again.

Help Me Help You was the sitcom. starring Ted Danson. It lasted throughout Dancing's run. It got pulled a few weeks after Dancing was over. I think with Romano in Knights, it could get a bit of a boost. I think this might be this year's The Office...meaning giving a second chance after a slow start.

I don't think this type of sitcom would work on a Friday. Family sitcoms only work then. Best bet is Mondays at 9 or 9:30 next fall.

If it goes against Heroes, it will get destroyed.

If it has Dancing with the Stars as its lead-in, it very well can compete with Heroes. Heroes at best gets a 8.7 HH rating. Dancing with the Stars gets ratings in the 12-14 area for normal episodes (higher as the season progresses). If Knights can hold even a little more than half of that, it would be great, but I would prefer a 8.5-9.5 rating.

Heroes' strength is 18-49. It gets a very good 6.0-6.5 on average. Watch this spring when Dancing will just come in to Mondays and beat 24, Heroes and Two and a Half Men. But expect Heroes to win in 18-49.

Again, Knights will not compete with Heroes. It just won't happen and I'd be willing to place a little wager on that. ;)

I'd much rather face Heroes than American Idol. Heroes is not a top 20 overall show. And like I said, with Dancing as its lead-in, it would be close. Dancing would likely spill in until 9:30, and with the combination of Dancing/Knights for the 9pm hour, it certainly would beat Heroes overall, even if Knights has a big drop of 40% or more.

It's not even been confirmed this is the plan. This is just my take. This is the best slot for a sitcom. ABC's pilots have wonderful dramas (Football Wives, Dirty Sexy Money, Women's Murder Club, etc etc) again for this fall and I expect all dramas this fall and maybe just 1-2 sitcoms overall.

I just don't see Knights all of a sudden jump from a 3 to an 8. I could be wrong and hopefully I am, but I don't think so.

With Dancing as its lead-in, it can. Help Me Help You even got a 7-8 rating. After Dancing was over, it got 3-4s.

This show is actually funny. If you haven't see the Oswald Montecristo episode (start of the new chapter), you're missing on a lot of fun. Kelly Ripa was so great! The episode before that with them in Mick Jagger's apartment was also a lot of fun.

I kind of gave up on the show, but I am willing to give it another shot. Especially with my man Ray Romano in it. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a Patty cameo. :D

I sure hope so. It's definitely the best sitcom ABC has had in years.

That's true but I don't think it would work anywhere else. Mondays you'd have to deal with 24 and Two and a Half Men. Tuesdays and Wednesdays you have AI and you don't want to go up against that. Maybe air it on Saturdays.

Catch up with them on abc.com. Only 9 episodes have aired. I REALLY loved the last two they aired. Funny stuff. Maybe they can get her for a cameo, but it might be hard with her doing the Grammar sitcom for Fox.

There is no AI in the fall luckily. No 24 in the fall either. But ABC has too many good dramas coming, I doubt they would set up a sitcom block on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Best chance of a sitcom airing is after 90-min Dancing at 9:30 or Fridays 8-9. I think they will do traditional sitcoms Fridays though followed by a new drama...probably the Alyssa Milano drama.

I know it's not a family sitcom but I'd like to see it air on Fridays. I kinda miss watching sitcoms on Fridays.

The problem with shows like Knights is they need time to find an audience. I think it was a huge mistake on ABC's part to put it up against AI in the first place.

I haven't been around in awhile. I just wanted to see what everyone thought of this show. Personally, I liked the characters for the most part but found the show itself to get boring quickly. You know a show is doomed when it gets replaced with re-runs of According to Jim. :o

Short-Lived Sitcom Potpourri (XXIII) (https://jacksonupperco.com/2024/10/09/short-lived-sitcom-potpourri-xxiii/)

Thoughts: With a high-concept premise-driven setup that seems to prioritize story over character while also suggesting finite narrative possibilities therein, The Knights Of Prosperity behaves like a movie that’s been shoehorned into the sitcom form. This ethos, perhaps more novel in 2007 (especially on network TV), has since become common in the streaming era, where all shows — even half-hour comedies — have gotten more plot-based and less concerned with longevity or consistency, often exploring flashy attention-grabbing premises rather than the established elements within an established situation. This design tends to favor dramatic tension over the comedic (an inevitability of chronic story), and also, once longevity and consistency don’t matter, the cultivation and maintenance of a situation becomes less of a concern as well.
