Andy Gibb would have turned 49 (!) today had he lived. What a sad story his is, what promise he had, only to see it wasted because of drugs and alcohol. :( I own all his CDs and he had true talent as a songwriter as well as a singer. On their One album from 1989, the Bee Gees wrote a beautiful song for Andy, "Wish You Were Here". Indeed, we do. :(

Happy birthday Andy!
He died 10th March 1988 of viral myocarditis, a heart infection - although some newspapers claimed his death was drug-related, although it wasn't.
I started a thread on the River Phoenix board on IMDB, pointing out some similarities between Andy and River - both come from big families involved in show business, both were talented young men who became involved with drugs - and someone rather unkindly responded, "Only, Gibb was an idiot." This rather offended and annoyed me. Exactly how was Andy an idiot? I've asked her to explain her comment. I think it was quite rude of her to just say that, especially considering she knows I'm a fan. Also, I think if someone is going to make unkind claims about a person, they should have some kind of argument, or evidence to support it, and she didn't use any.
I have a cassette tape of Andy Gibb, he had lovely voice and its such a shame he had to die so young.
