View Full Version : Did anyone see that new show on FOX - Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2007, 10:03 PM I think that is the title...I found it very interesting, however, some of the questions didn't seem to be subjects that would be taught in a particular grade. For example under the category FIRST GRADE SPELLING, the question asked was "How many "E's" appear in the phrase PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE?" Excuse me, but I am certain those words are more like 2nd or maybe 3rd grade. I know for a fact I was not spelling words like "allegiance" as a first grader, and I was in spelling bee contests every year.
Some of the other questions didn't seem to fit the grades for which they were listed either.
Brian Damage 03-03-2007, 10:26 PM I will admit...
I AM NOT SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER!!! At least on some of the questions. ;)
catlover79 03-04-2007, 12:02 AM Just when you think reality TV can't sink any lower...and the networks wonder why their ratings keep going in the toilet.
Zoneboy 03-04-2007, 12:13 AM FOX is run by 5th Graders.

Good Point.
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 05:47 PM Well, Fox may have fifth graders in charge, but their ratings prove this show to be a hit.
The show was seen by 26.5 million people, making it the most watched series debut in Fox history and the most popular debut of any series since 1998 according to Nielsen Media Research.

I think they can thank American Idol for that. The bigger challenge will see how does without AI as a lead in.

FU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Corolla 03-04-2007, 09:05 PM I never got a chance to watch this last week. When does it come on anyway? I can't seem to remember...
On other forums, most people that watched it thought it was a good show. :)
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 09:07 PM I happened to catch it on Friday evening after American Idol. Apparently it had been showing for a few nights by the time I seen it. I am not sure of the schedule, I am guessing right after American Idol.
Corolla 03-04-2007, 09:09 PM I don't even know what time American Idol comes on. So I take it it'll be on every Friday or what? :)
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 09:13 PM Laughs might outnumber correct answers when comedian Jeff Foxworthy enrolls as host of the new FOX quiz show ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? Classes commence with half-hour preview premieres Tuesday, Feb. 27 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesday, Feb. 28 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), and full one-hour episodes airing after AMERICAN IDOL on Thursdays, March 1 and 8 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The show will lead off the night on Thursdays, March 15 and 22 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
scol_arl_90 03-04-2007, 10:13 PM I watched the last 15 minutes of it two weeks ago. I couldn't believe how dumb the contestant was. Is it scripted? Please tell me it's scripted.
It's ridiculous these people win thousands and thousands of dollars.
I really hope they have a hard time finding contestants dumb enough to be on the show.

The sad thing is, I think it's probably easy to find dumb contestants. :(
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 11:17 PM I read somewhere on the net that they pick contestants that have "looks", then they go for intelligience. Also, the children are supposedly SAG card carrying members.

Sad, isn't it? ohno:

If it is true, yes it is sad because I really like a good game show.
