swedeace 03-03-2007, 01:13 PM Here's what Encarta says:
Daylight Saving
Daylight Saving, system of setting clocks ahead so that both sunrise and sunset occur at a later hour, producing an additional period of daylight in the evening. In the North Temperate Zone clocks are usually set ahead one hour in the spring and set back to standard time in the fall. The correct adjustment is easily remembered via the mantra “spring forward, fall back.” Until the year 2007, daylight-saving time begins at 2 am on the first Sunday of April and ends at 2 am on the last Sunday of October in most of the United States and Canada . Daylight saving is not observed in Hawaii , Arizona , Puerto Rico , Saskatchewan , and most of Indiana . Beginning in 2007, daylight-saving time will start on the second Sunday of March and will end on the first Sunday of November. Intended to promote energy conservation by starting daylight saving three weeks earlier and ending it one week later, the change was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
The idea of daylight saving was mentioned in a whimsical essay in 1784 by Benjamin Franklin; it was first advocated seriously by a British builder, William Willett, in the pamphlet Waste of Daylight (1907). Daylight saving has been used in the United States and in many European countries since World War I, when the system was adopted in order to conserve fuel needed to produce electric power. Some localities reverted to standard time after the war, but others retained daylight saving. During World War II the U.S. Congress passed a law putting the entire country on “war time,” which set clocks one hour ahead of standard time for the duration of the war. War time was also followed in Britain , where clocks were put ahead still another hour during the summer.
In the United States during peacetime, daylight saving was a subject of controversy. Farmers, who usually work schedules determined by sun time and are therefore inconvenienced when they must conduct business on a different time basis, registered strong opposition. Railroad, bus, and plane scheduling was hampered by time inconsistencies among various cities and states. The Uniform Time Act, enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1966, established a system of uniform (within each time zone) daylight-saving time throughout the United States and its possessions, exempting only those states in which the state legislature voted to keep the entire state on standard time.

Thanks for the Info, now if you excuse me I have to go Vomit
PZelda 03-03-2007, 01:22 PM Ohhhh wow, I forgot about that, even though I already knew about the new DST taking effect.
That makes things really useful for me, then. When I go to Los Angeles in 1 1/2 weeks, it'll be all nice and light outside at night.
Brian Damage 03-03-2007, 01:26 PM I have no problem with it being lighter out, longer.
TVFactFan 03-03-2007, 01:32 PM I have no problem with it being lighter out, longer.
I used to be that way but since my life is completely different than it was in 2000, i don't get excited about NICE WEATHER and LONGER LIGHT DAYS due to all my friends moving and starting new lives and not being able to be out in the nice light weather with a cute girl. So if I don't have any shopping to do I really don;t have a reason to go outside unless I'm going to work or going to dinner with my family. So the DST kind of HINTS to me that the Spring is on the way followed by the summer and I'm not really thart excited about that.

You make that sound so sad!
TVFactFan 03-03-2007, 01:49 PM You make that sound so sad!
Iam started to get a little sad because I'm getting older and the older you get the tougher dating gets and the Internet is not as fun as it was in the previous years which would take my mind off things like that but now I have to figure how what can I do to revamp my LIFE outside of work. That's my assigment for this weekend-lol
PZelda 03-03-2007, 01:56 PM Okay, Solomon, you're scaring me.
...Because you sound like me sometimes. O.o
Seriously, though. I'd just go outside anyway and go on a mindless long walk and not think about it. Or keep yerself really busy at work. That seems to help me.
You could always take up biking, if the part of Philly you live in is okay for that. I can bike 15 - 18 miles in one sitting and I've found that I don't obsess over the little things when I have to focus on my biking.

I would rather be out in nice weather on a DATE or with Friends like I used to be. The Biking thing wouldn't do anything for me
Corolla 03-03-2007, 03:26 PM I knew that DST was coming on earlier, but I wasn't aware that it would end later. Finally we have another hour of daylight in the evening. :)
catlover79 03-03-2007, 03:51 PM Wow, I can't believe it's coming so soon already. The only problem is losing an hour of sleep. :mumble:

Losing an hour of sleep?

With DST, in the fall you gain an hour, in the spring you lose one.

Go to church and ask someone out at church. Go to work and ask someone out at your office. And treat them nicely, you don't have to actually like them, but they may hook you up with someone that they know that you might get along with. lol

Do any of them have single sisters or cousins, etc??
TVFactFan 03-03-2007, 04:42 PM Do any of them have single sisters or cousins, etc??
I would never go to any man at my job and ask them to hook me up with someone. I prefer a man I work with not know anything about my personal life. Now if they came to me and ask was i single because this girl i know is looking for a nice guy then that would be different

Then you're going to be alone for a long time. You're too shy to ask a girl out and you don't want anyone to know that you're single, you don't like to go to clubs or to parks. I don't know what to tell you. Go to Match.com
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2007, 05:04 PM They said on the news that your computer needs to have all the necessary updates or else! Because of the fact that daylight savings time has been changed, your computer may be accessible to more viruses and other issues if you don't take the necessary precautions. Hope you got your updates Solomon.

In the past 5 months, the Phone Dating Service and Craiglist Personals have been more effective than Online Dating Services like
Match.com
So I just rather stick to those Two for now.

Someone asked me why I was not happy to see longer lighter days and I said because it lets me know that the warm season is not that far away and it's not my favorite time of year. Only the Fall and Winter
Mr. Television 03-04-2007, 08:26 PM I'm not that happy with the change. When it happens under the old time I know spring is finally here but I bet I'll still get snow after this weekend.
Holly 03-05-2007, 09:55 AM March 11th, 07 finally ! Then I don't have to drive in the dark anymore after work...
