View Full Version : What is your ALL-TIME Favorite Segment
LooksLikeCRicci 03-03-2007, 12:57 PM Okay. If you had to pick ONE segment that you would deem the ABSOLUTE BEST of Unsolved Mysteries, which one would it be? Think of it this way: If you had a friend who had never seen UM before, and you wanted to get them as addicted as we all so obviously are, which ONE segment would you show them?
I'll get the ball rolling: Angela Hammond.
AVERMAN 03-03-2007, 01:34 PM Either Roadside Ghost Mum or Resurrection Mary.
SiberianKiss 03-03-2007, 03:15 PM L.A. tunnel bank robbers, aired 2/22/89
Dislimb 03-03-2007, 06:21 PM D.B. Cooper
greatgarrett2 03-03-2007, 06:32 PM Forensic Astrology.....
peachysquirt21 03-03-2007, 06:59 PM This is a toughy, there been so many great episodes thru the years. I guess I would have to say Resurrection Mary, Norman Ladner & 2 fires/2 deaths are my picks.
SP4CE INV4DERZ 03-03-2007, 09:46 PM I think it would have to be the St James Hotel Ghost but that's subject to change.
Awsi Dooger 03-03-2007, 10:08 PM The girl who was killed after frantically hiding behind headstones at night in a cemetery. For some reason that impacted me more than any other.
PrettyinPink55 03-03-2007, 10:14 PM This is a toughie.
But I pick the Edward Harold Bell segment.
clead23 03-03-2007, 11:20 PM Thr frederick and cederick young case
Tap Dancer 03-04-2007, 03:07 PM I can't say I have a favorite, but I'd probably tell a newbie to watch the Darlie Routier segment. It's an interesting case.
wiseguy182 03-04-2007, 07:50 PM While there are hundreds of good ones, my absolute favorite is without a doubt the treasure trove of classic quotes: Liz Carmichael and her Dale car. You have to admit that was a pretty clever scam.
But you absolutely knew I was going to say that;)
In all actuality, I did give a copy of this segment to a coworker, who I belive had only vaguely heard of UM. She watched it with her boyfriend and said she enjoyed it. I kept telling her about it, and she was like "Man, I have to see this, bring it in."

I gave a copy of Forensic Astrology to this guy I know who owns a bookshop. ......Forensic Astrology and 'Psycho Babble.'
chet_58 03-05-2007, 06:30 AM I dont think i could pick a favorite. Of course im going to like the ones that are close to where I live because Im more interested in those... I like the Johnny Lee Wilson and Angela Hammond one the best. Also The bank robbery of Dan Short in Noel, MO where he was thrown off a bridge in Grand Lake. The one that always freaked me out was the Ressurection Mary.
chet_58 03-05-2007, 06:35 AM Actually i forgot my all time favorite and thats the Boys on the Track (Don Henry and Kevin Ives)
AVERMAN 03-05-2007, 10:33 AM Also, the one where the girl gets kidnapped while delivering pizzas to a non-existant address, then she appears to a psychic who manages to find the killer. It happened in 1982.
mozartpc27 03-05-2007, 11:08 PM I'm a big fan of any of the missing persons cases. I usually have the same reaction to all of them: my eyes water and I feel my facial muscles tighten at the end of a segment. I'm not crying, my eyes just water; I've never understood this.
My all-time, quintessinal "this is why I love this show" segment is the "Sara Jo," from season 1, episode 19. Something about that segment always has blown me away --- the fact that the boat, missing for 10 years (!), was found in a place that had presumably been checked at least 4 times since the boat had vanished, the fact that the skeletal remains of one, and only one, crew member were found buried, with no sign of anyone else, and the fact that that inexplicable pad of paper --- square pieces of white paper with smaller squares of silver paper between each pair of white papers --- was found with the body. It's just too damn weird.
cuba_libre 03-05-2007, 11:59 PM One of my favorite segment was the missing persons cases of April Gregory and Kristen Smart. I recall that April's killer was found. But there was only a "person of interest" in Kristen's case. Both sad but intriguing....
LooksLikeCRicci 03-06-2007, 12:14 AM Yeah, but the "person of interest" in Kristin Smart's case knows more than he is talking about... I'm about 90% sure that he's the killer, and the authorities don't have enough evidence to get a conviction.
mozartpc27 03-06-2007, 12:35 AM By the way, I've seen a lot of reference on here to the idea that the one about "Resurrection Mary" gets played alot (unfortunately, I no longer have a station that shows UM), but I don't remember what that one is. Can anyone refresh my memory?
LooksLikeCRicci 03-06-2007, 12:55 AM Awsi, Mozartpc needs to see your avatar.... ;)
PrettyinPink55 03-06-2007, 02:11 AM Some of my other favorites include The Hansen Case and the Tammy Lynn Leppart case, as well as Beverly McGowan.
Goodness, there are so many!!!!
greatgarrett2 03-06-2007, 02:17 AM Some other favorites I'd get someone who's never watched UM to watch........
1. True Crime-Kevin Poulsen
2. Lost Loves-Reunited Childhood Friends (with UPDATE)
3. Legends-Sonny Liston and Who Killed Superman?
4. Psychics-Coral Polge
5. Ghosts- Kelsay Ghosts
......and the list goes on!
Awsi Dooger 03-06-2007, 03:25 AM Yes, Resurrection Mary is currently honored as my avatar babe, a fine Chicago gal who is a night owl like myself. Don't get in her face.
I'm trying to overlook that she may have been a blonde but at least that isn't evident here. Maybe she died herself blonde, so to speak.
longliveum 03-06-2007, 05:51 PM I'm a sucker for the really creepy ones so I'd have to say Angela Hammond and probably the girl who ran for her life in the cemetery.
ekpentz 03-06-2007, 07:18 PM The Spiral Staircase segment in New mexico
Thiussat 03-09-2007, 04:03 AM Speaking of Kevin Poulsen (Dark Dante), he is a contributor to some Linux/nerd forums I visit. He posts a lot about computer security. I guess his time in jail has cured him of the dark side. The same goes for Kevin Mitnick (The Mentor), although Mitnick was never featured on UM, however his story is a very interesting one (there is a book about him getting caught). Mitnick, like Poulsen, now has went to the light side.
Actually, I am not certain that Mitnick was "The Mentor," though I have heard people say he was. I have never been able to authenticate it and never heard Mitnick claim it.
The Flying Dutchmans 03-09-2007, 09:39 AM I am one for happy endings so id have to say the one I like the most was the girl I think her first name is jeannie found out that her mother had an affair with a guy that was in the army while she was still in high school, turns out that jeannie is his daughter and she has UM air her search and also turns out her fathers wife is watching this episode while he was sleeping on the couch, anyway jeannie gets to meet him and he is this great guy, every girls dream of a wonderul father.
marlins3 11-14-2007, 03:59 PM Son of Sam.... 'nuff said.
ok, I also really like the Spriral Staircase and Johnny Lee wilson segments
UMfan77 11-14-2007, 04:24 PM I am one for happy endings so id have to say the one I like the most was the girl I think her first name is jeannie found out that her mother had an affair with a guy that was in the army while she was still in high school, turns out that jeannie is his daughter and she has UM air her search and also turns out her fathers wife is watching this episode while he was sleeping on the couch, anyway jeannie gets to meet him and he is this great guy, every girls dream of a wonderul father.
Oh yes, the father's name is "Duncan". That was a nice story, but so sad that the mother killed herself. I wonder if Duncan and Jeanne are still in contact with each other?
UMfan77 11-14-2007, 04:38 PM The Jill and Julie Hanson segment is my favorite to watch, that one blows me away.
supersally1974 11-14-2007, 09:20 PM I will never get sick of watching and (re-re-re-watching)
Chuck Morgan (n' subsequent Mistaken Hit and Danny Casolaro eps)
Tallman's Ghost
Ronda Hinson
L'enfant
Tony Alamo
Shane Stewart & Sally McNelly
Keith Warren

MavFan92 11-14-2007, 10:27 PM I love the Tom Sawyer and Kristen Merzlock near-death experience stories.
The missing time stories.
The Lost Dutchman mines
The rock with the American Indian looking hieroglyphs. Two brothers found the rock while playing in the woods and brought it home. Since then, their family has been blessed with good luck.
Resurrection Mary
The little girl who could see ghosts of two old men, "Conn" and "Mr Gordy"
LooksLikeCRicci 11-14-2007, 10:36 PM I LOVE it when my old threads get bumped. :)

MavFan92 11-16-2007, 03:18 PM I loved the segment about Brushy Bill Roberts who claimed he was Billy the Kid. Wonder if he really was..
radar1979 11-16-2007, 05:42 PM The buried treasure at Victorio Peak in NM. I actually called the 800 # in 1995 to see if it had ever been found...it hasn't.
supersally1974 11-16-2007, 07:47 PM What is that polaroid pic????
It's the polaroid picture found in a Florida parking lot, showing a young girl and boy, bounded and gaged.
http://www.forthelost.org/acantrell.html
Jediknight1823 11-17-2007, 01:28 AM Son of Sam was probably their best one.
A couple that haven't been mentioned
Flight 19 was an excellent segment.
As for a newer case, I liked the Mothman segment. I'm disappointed that it was relegated to a new case, because of how awesome it could have been during the early, creepier days.
MavFan92 11-18-2007, 02:53 PM There was a ghost story about an older couple who bought a house in Georgia or Virginia I think? One night the lady couldn't sleep so she went into the bathroom and in the mirror she could see a man walking down the hall. Her husband was still asleep so they checked the house and all doors were locked and secured. A few days later she heard a drill going in the hall, she thought it was her husband playing a joke, and the drill was unplugged and lying on the floor.
RoosterCrow 12-06-2007, 10:41 PM Friends till the end - boys murdered on the railroad track

That's the "Tallman Ghost" segment. That's one of the scariest segments that I've ever seen.
James T 12-07-2007, 11:29 AM The Black Hope Curse.

Hello MavFan92!
That segment was actually called Tatum's ghost and it's one of my favorites of the ghost seggies. I remember laughing out loud when I saw the woman's reaction to the "ghost" tugging on her clothes, in the reenactment.
Not to contradict UMfan77, but the Tallman's ghost was the really creepy segment with the haunted bunkbeds, the husband finding the paint brush upside down in the paint bucket, the garage door on fire and the voice telling the husband "You're dead!"
I was always a fan of the UFO stories so I enjoyed the one about Roswell and the radio DJ who claimed to take pictures of all those UFO's. Liked the Elliot Ness one too.
leafygreens 12-08-2007, 11:39 AM Mothman.
Mothman.
I have too many to pick just one, but Leafygreens, I love your avatar. The Grace Brown/Chester Gillette segment is one of my fav ghost ones!
cuba_libre 12-10-2007, 04:14 PM Another really intriguing segment to me was the young man, whose name I cannot recall, went missing in Tijuana, Mexico while he was out with friends. And then his corpse was found all bloody and beaten. IIRC, this was one of the newer segments on CBS.
Also liked the story about the missing woman and her traveling to Haiti on some raggedy boat called "The Freedon."
Statispro1 12-11-2007, 11:52 AM The one where the man gave a ride to a hitchhiker. He then had to throw the hitchhiker out of his truck. Later near his mother's house he saw the same man. This man killed his mother. I find the coincidences creepy.
boco357 12-13-2007, 11:03 AM Blair Adams
livsforluv 12-13-2007, 04:19 PM I don't think I have a favorite because all of them were good. I really wish this show would come back. Why can't they get a new host for the show and have it continue. I think it would do really well.
Allierain 12-13-2007, 04:29 PM I think they were all good as well, although the missing persons/unexplained deaths creeped me out more than the UFO segments. But I do remember when the season of '86 started (or was it '88?), and they featured the Roswell story. The alien dummies scared the @*#&$^% out of me. I was hiding under a blanket that evening. I'll never forget it.
Anyway, one of my favorite segments in terms of humor would be the story of the Dale. I loved the actor who played Liz Carmichael- hilarious.
GaryJ06 12-28-2007, 04:51 PM angela hammond would be my vote, also i always liked the mothman
HyeTev 12-31-2007, 03:27 PM Tough to say which one is my all-time fav but these are strong candidates for that spot:
Rhonda Hinson
"Debby"
Cindy Anderson
Stanley Gryziec
Richard Church
and, of course, The Wackers.
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-31-2007, 11:19 PM First post!
There are so many great segs. What about that texas old house ghost story with those deep southern accented males with funny looking facial expressions?
The LA civil war ghost house creeped me out when I was a lad. I couldn't walk through the dark hallway in my house anymore after that one. tatum's ghost was good.
I remember watching phoenix lights when I first moved to phoenix ironically....i've been looking out for UFOs every since. that story is overplayed on other shows though.
I really like the morgan murder(CIA)mystery as well....I think it's called mistake hit. I wonder what came of that?
there was also a freaky one where a guy gave a stranger a ride, tried to drop him off, fought off an attack, only to find the guy killed his mom. they showed a freaky police sketch. That was a freaky story almost too freaky.......I don't believe it.
the black widow was interesting too. anyone catch that b yet?
My all time fav would have to be well there are too many I could go on and on. oh yeah elvis' last night, the military DC8 plane crash.
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-31-2007, 11:20 PM angela hammond seems to be the most mentioned. Why don't I recall that one?
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-31-2007, 11:22 PM I think they were all good as well, although the missing persons/unexplained deaths creeped me out more than the UFO segments. Is that Dennis Depue you're thinking of? The police never got him, he actually shot himself in the head.
DALLASTEXAN!! 01-01-2008, 01:57 PM Is that Dennis Depue you're thinking of? The police never got him, he actually shot himself in the head.
true.......my bad
lilmissd 01-02-2008, 10:06 PM I would say the "orange sock" murders, & Blind river rest stop murders, both are freaky, intreguing, and just plain weird!
Beavervalleygirl 03-26-2008, 11:49 PM Church choir, and a close 2nd, the Wackers !
Titan826 03-27-2008, 01:45 PM Way too many for me to pick a favorite. I especially like the legend cases, final appeals, and missing persons, but thats just me. Zodiac/Unabomber connection theory was one that really interested me.

Huskerz85 03-28-2008, 10:57 AM I'm a fiend for the 'Mistaken Hit' and 'Danny Casolaro' episodes with Don Devereux......(the 'Mistaken Hit' one is where that innocent guy got shot right across from Devereux's house)

Who killed Danny and Kathy Freeman ?
Who set the house on fire ?
And where is Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible ?
Xytras 03-28-2008, 05:48 PM It's between Danny Casolaro and the Mary Murders
asmitty 03-29-2008, 07:27 AM Kurt Sova and Russell Evans really pulled me in when I was younger. Jeremy Bright and Kurt McFall also boggled my mind.
CanadianUMFan 03-30-2008, 03:06 PM Blair Adams
I just saw this one again recently and it is a mystery and a half. I believe that Adams may have been suffering from some kind of mental illness but that still doesn't explain who murdered him. It is an interesting, although meaningless, coincidence that he came from the same area as Cindy James (Vancouver, British Columbia) as there are some parallels between the two cases.
Titan826 04-01-2008, 07:20 PM Kurt Sova and Russell Evans really pulled me in when I was younger. Jeremy Bright and Kurt McFall also boggled my mind.
I forgot about Jeremy Bright. That was another one that fascinated me.
kirbivore 05-02-2008, 03:37 PM for me was the "look at it Omar" arson segment
JRA2000TL 05-02-2008, 03:53 PM Blind River Rest Stop
Wackers
Tallman's Ghost
Queen Mary
Queen Mary Fan 05-03-2008, 11:58 AM - The Queen Mary segment............I had a chance to tour The Queen Mary last summer, and I was sufficiently spooked during the self-guided tour. At one time, I became seperated from my family down toward the bottom of the ship. Fortunately, I did not run into the bearded male ghost, but it was creepy for a few minutes!
- Resurrection Mary
- Mothman creeps me out!
- Coral from the Psychics set
leafygreens 07-31-2008, 12:25 PM I have too many to pick just one, but Leafygreens, I love your avatar. The Grace Brown/Chester Gillette segment is one of my fav ghost ones!
Thank you. it was scary.
alfiechat 07-31-2008, 02:12 PM Blind River Rest Stop murders

Dislimb 12-20-2008, 07:46 AM Wow. This thread is back again. I will add more.
Clarence Roberts (2 fires, 2 deaths)
Paul Freshour (Circleville Letters)
Danny Casolaro (The Octopus)
bryndis 12-23-2008, 01:58 PM There was a reason why I recorded from my computer the audio of the segment of the man who runs into his suspected identical twin. How his brother-in-law at a softball game yells "Hey jim!" and the man just looks at him and nods his head, and even his OWN father (adoptive father) stumbles into him and says "Jim! Jim!" smiles and waves and the guy just gives him a "you're crazy look" haha. Always enjoyed watching that segment. I hope he found his twin brother.
Somehow I use to consider the Rich Church one my favourite segment. Don't know why because at 13 that segment made me decide to never date ever! Especially since the fact I knew someone who knew that family.(Colleen's)
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-27-2008, 07:08 AM the WW2 christmas dinner in europe, the reunion of the vietnam vets were a couple of great ones that I love. I love the cases that have happy endings. I know I flared up in recent segment I saw for the first time on spike, in which a young boy released from a WW2 concentration camp was searching for an american soldier who fed him and gave him comfort in a time of great loss and desperation. that one was still unsolved to my knowledge. but I enjoy it when those types of cases are solved.
MissFit29 03-20-2009, 06:47 PM There were 2 Vietnam vets reunited with nurses that helped them recuperate after horrible injuries - I was so happy they found those people.
The Baskin children is an early UM memory for me - I just remember sitting there in disbelief about the whole thing.
Otherwise, I like the crime ones - Dennis DePue, Gary Simmons, Charles Morgan, Son of Sam....
My favorite segment is probably William Bradford Bishop, but there are several that would vie for the top spot.
MegtheEgg86 03-21-2009, 03:53 PM If I had to choose just one to show someone who'd never seen UM, I'd probably go with Aileen Conway or Blair Adams. Too strange for words, and you could speculate for ages on what really happened.
Apostapler 03-21-2009, 05:00 PM Either the Lisa Marie Kimmell or Jay Cook/Tanya Cuylenborg murders. Both stories creep me out to this day.
UMfan77 03-23-2009, 12:31 PM Either the Lisa Marie Kimmell or Jay Cook/Tanya Cuylenborg murders. Both stories creep me out to this day.
That one puzzles me like you would not believe! The reinactment had this unbelievable creepiness to it. Especially the guy on the ferry (the suspect) staring at the couple, but they wouldn't show this guy's face. I kind of saw his reflection in a window when he went up and spoke to the couple.
Dr Will Hatch 03-08-2010, 11:05 PM My favorite mystery ever is the Circleville Writer, mostly because of how bizarre it is. There's still no published reports of this thing ever actually happening.
Forensic Astrology really fascinated me.
The Haunted Bunkbeds and Howard Storm's Hell experience are two of the more eerie paranormal mysteries, and the one with the arsonist videotape is just plain scary.
Keith Warren's death still bothers me, and is one unexplained death that has stuck with me.
Oh, and the Allagash Abduction segment was really well made.
truthbtold 03-09-2010, 03:57 AM I too go with Circleville. The fact that the writer ACTUALLY sent a letter to Robert Stack at UM added an extra element of suspense.
Also, the Charles Morgan/Deveraux/Casolaro cases, Victory Peak Treasure, and the Whackers.
Wamisto 03-10-2010, 01:26 PM Okay.
Wow, talk about asking the tough questions! Great one, CRicci.
I am really surprised at how many of the non-crime related, "unsolvable" mysteries (as I call them) were mentioned. The reason I say that is when we think about why we got "addicted" to this show, we would point to many of the crimes that were profiled, not the UFO mysteries, mystical animals (Mothman, Loch Ness, Sasquatch), Ghosts, the "gelatinous goo", etc. And yet, most of these episodes too are among my favourites and definitely were for me the most memorable.
However, if I am to go by how the question was framed, "If you had a friend who had never seen UM before, and you wanted to get them as addicted as we all so obviously are, which ONE segment would you show them?", I would go with the New Hampshire Serial Killer segment. This segment had everything that gets those internal biological drugs like oxytocin, endorphins, and adrenalyne flowing: like the cryptic sketch of the killer on the marble background with the eerie music playing; freaky coincidences (like the stabbed woman driving like mad on the highway to get to her sister's place for help, only to find herself pulling up right behind her attacker's truck as he was fleeing; and reenactments showing scenarios that altered the viewer's way of life forever (such as many viewers refusing to ever again after seeing this stop off by a cola machine after dark and get out of the vehicle to get a soda).
If I was trying to "sell" UM to a "UM virgin", I would never choose a segment which did not have a composite sketch, and I would probably stick to a murder mystery.

jojo_D 03-14-2010, 08:58 AM Angela Hammond, hands down the creepiest case UM ever featured, in my opinion.
I always hated the ghost segments - bored me to tears.
sdb4884 03-14-2010, 01:15 PM The disappearance of Michael Rosenblum.

thesanantonian 03-16-2010, 04:19 PM Hello all. I found this forum and had to sign up and post to this thread.
There are more than a few I remember, but the one segment about the rapist who attended Texas A&M and attacked a woman who was jogging I think. A few weeks later she went to the grocery store and he was the cashier checkout guy! She recognized his cologne and voice while she was paying for her groceries. Thank God, he was later caught.
The other was the young military man who was acting strangely and when he disappeared the only clue he left his girlfriend when she questioned his behavior was," Have you ever seen the movie "White Sands". I suppose his disappearance had to do with the CIA, gunrunning, etc.

Welcome to the board.
You're referring to the Justin Burgwinkel case there. Upon closer inspection I think you'll find SPC Burgwinkel was full of a whole lot of talk, paranoid delusions, or both. As a member of the U.S. Army myself, a lot of things in that case make no semblance of sense whatsoever--it's almost certain his disappearance had little to do with a "secret mission", and probably a lot more with something deeply seated in Burgwinkel's psyche. That, or he just thought going AWOL was a really good idea at the time.

It's definitely a "pet peeve" case for me.
Alvin Karpis 05-23-2010, 09:51 PM I think its a three way tie between
1. Dennis Depue
2. Alcatraz Escape
3. Son of Sam
The Dennis Depue case has always stuck with me from the first time I saw it, and when my brother rented "Jeepers Creepers" I knew the director had ripped off UM to a T! It kind of made the episode that much more of my favorite as it had affected another person enough to open his movie with a copy cat scene
I have was born and raised in Northern California and have been to Alcatraz at least 10 times. I own 50+ books on Alcatraz and have 20 signatures in my book collection of former inmates and gaurds (including 3 Alvin Karpis signatures) From the ages of 11-13 I was an Alcatraz junkie, I studied everything I could and I foucused on the escapes. So when the Alcatraz special aired on TV my mom and dad watched it with me with popcorn and ice cream and I remember the entire episode and loved it.
Son of Sam scared the living piss out of me as a child. This segment was just great, UM turned the streets of NYC into a creepy scary landscape that SOS stalked
tiddlywinks950 05-24-2010, 02:42 AM Elizabeth Campbell.
Something just really hit me hard with that one. In the segment, RS says that she lived a quiet and sheltered life with her family. That's how I've lived. She was also looking forward to attending college in the fall. I am currently at that point in my life too. She was raised in Texas and I was raised in New York, and both are heavily populated states. Our hometowns were similar in size. I recently heard an interview online with her sister and it was just heart breaking. I really hope her family finds answers.

YES!!! I saw that movie in theaters in high school and I remember thinking how familiar that opening scene looked but I couldn't put my finger on it until a few years later when the Dennis Depue segment re-ran on Lifetime.

I knew right away what segment it was I just forget Dennis Depue's name
When I was abel yto look it up on the internet his name was burned into my head forever
The crazy thing is that it made the opening scene in "Jeepers Creepers" very scary because I knew that they would go back to behind the School House to check out what they saw just like the couple in the Depue segment
bawitter 05-24-2010, 01:03 PM Here are some of mine:
Leah Roberts
Tara Calico
Shawcroft & Leuth
Star Palumbo
Amy Bechtel
Orange Sock Murders
Blair Adams
Judy Smith
Arnold Archambeau & Ruby Bruguier
SageSlowdive 05-24-2010, 03:58 PM The Blind River Murders, Angela Hammond, and Beverly McGowan are the scariest segments UM ever made. Scary because it could happen so easily...
Steve W. 05-25-2010, 08:16 PM The Kurt Sova segment sticks with me the most. I first saw the segment when I was approx. 10 years old and was truly baffled about how he died. Irrationally, I thought he must have been murdered somehow (even though they say he had no signs of injuries) and managed to connect it (in my mind) to the part where "Susan" claims he's sleeping in the cot in the basement. Needless to say, that made me not want to sleep in my bed that night.
Now, years later, I know better and realize that his death was probably drug-related. The man who did the autopsy only tested him for 2 or 3 drugs, which leaves a lot of drugs out of the equation.
Also, the segment didn't mention that he skipped school and was drinking Everclear the day he went to the party and I've heard about people having allergic reactions to drinking Everclear such as not being able to breathe (or at least feeling that way).
Anyway, some of my other favorites:
-Kari Lynn Nixon (Missing Persons/Murder) (This one was very upsetting to me when we got the update. There was not much she could have done because the killer pulled a gun on her while she was walking home and he was driving. The only thing she could have done is try to run away and/or scream at the top of her lungs for her life.)
-Jeremy Bright (Missing Persons)
-Michael Rosenblum (Missing Persons/Unexplained Death)
-Keith Warren (Unexplained Death)
-Matthew Chase (Missing Persons/Murder)
-Matt Flores (Murder)
-Kurt McFall (Unexplained Death)
-Doreen Picard and Susan Laferte (Murder)
-Father Reynaldo Rivera and Father John Kerrigan (Murder/Missing Persons)
-Aimee Willard (Murder)
-Katherine Korzilius (? sp) (Unexplained Death)
-Black Slave Ghosts in Texas (Stupid)
I'm serious except for the last one. :)

Alvin Karpis 05-27-2010, 01:04 PM My all-time, quintessinal "this is why I love this show" segment is the "Sara Jo," from season 1, episode 19.
Wow I cant believe I forgot about this episode! It all came flooding back to me while reading your post!
I just re-watched this episode and it took me right back to bring a kid again
Thank you
lauracrook 06-01-2010, 12:38 PM My top 5 favs would be:
-The choir group that escaped death by all coincidently being late for that night's choir practice in the church- that blew up just as they were all arriving...no one was killed or even injured!
-baby's breath- little Logan Carol...wow!!!
-Teresa...(cant remember last name) she had a party and her daughter claimed to have had a visit for her late father (Teresas husband) in her sleep and he wanted her to write down a birthday message for his 'sweetheart tress' :)
-bordello murders- sad...and still unsolved unfortunately
-anastasia- quite intriuged by the mystery of anastasia...or 'anna anderson'- many believe she was killed with her family, the Romanovs in 1918 others believe she lived until 1984 calling herself anna.
RobinW 07-19-2010, 03:33 PM There are too many favourites to name, but I think that if you had to choose one UM case to show someone you were trying to get hooked on the show, you should choose one that gets you endlessly debating and discussing it. And that's why I would choose the Ayleen Conway case.
There have been so many discussions about it on this board and it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to come up with an airtight theory about what happened that doesn't have some holes in it! That's one of things that can make the show so great. It's one of the first UM episodes I can remember watching and I'm sure it helped make me a fan for life.

Very good choice--that segment is the epitome of what makes the show so great.
LaurierCrimmajor 07-22-2010, 12:16 AM Hey everybody, I'm new here.
Personally, I can't think of a better way to spend a rainy day than snuggling up next to my fiancee watchin Robert Stack.
The Danny Casolaro case has always really intrigued me since it was so wide ranging and dark.
The two boys on the tracks has also really interested me because there really seemed to be "no concrete leads", but then you hear about the current theories on the case and it sends the whole scenario for a loop.
The Monika Rizzo case is very eerie and always gives me chills, ditto the Eric Tamiyasu murder.
My biggest wish is to see them completely reboot UM on some cable network with all new episodes and updates with a legitimate new host and production values, strapped full with the current 21st century technology and investigative tools, as well as multimedia outlets such as Twitter, Facebook etc to really create a cool, socialnetwork dragnet. I'm addicted to the SPIKE eps as I am all the others, but they don't feel as polished and genuine as the old Stacks....
TheCafeDisco 07-22-2010, 01:39 PM angela hammond always had a big impact on me. The lucky school was a good one. And the one with the little girl who talks to a ghost named mr gordy probably because I have seen that one soon many times. I can still here here mom's voice in her southern accent say over and over again "she was just so little at the time"
greatgarrett2 07-22-2010, 11:17 PM I always liked the Joseph Prushinowski segment. The deeply religious man who swindled banks across the world. He is an enigma to me. A contradiction.
I can't get over the fact that authorities think he never personally benefits from his frauds. He gives most or all of the stolen money to his community. I find that just a little hard to believe, but fascinating none the less.
Gelatinous Goo 07-22-2010, 11:26 PM "But I am ONLY asking for $750,000!"
One of my favourites, too.
Oooga Chucka 08-10-2010, 06:42 PM 5. Micki Jo West - This one is memorable to me because when I first saw it at a younger age, I was thoroughly freaked out by the scrawled letters left around the malls in the area.
4. Judith Himes - "Judy Himes is alive and she lives in Omaha." I actually got chills just typing that.
3. L'Enfant - Another really creepy segment that was made more memorable by the sad fact that the man who was being stalked and harassed had pretty much sadly lost everything as a result. I'll never forget that kid's voice on the phone, though.
2. The Circleville Writer - Creepy, weird, and mysterious with lots of twists and turns. All this one needed was a freaky-looking composite sketch.
1. John and Linda Sohus - This one had it all - young loves, shady con men, alcoholic parents, international intrigue, dead bodies, and even animal lovers! My all-time favorite easily.
Clytemnestra 08-11-2010, 12:28 AM The one where the man gave a ride to a hitchhiker. He then had to throw the hitchhiker out of his truck. Later near his mother's house he saw the same man. This man killed his mother. I find the coincidences creepy.
Does anyone know what the name of this one is? Sounds really spooky, I have never seen it before.
MegtheEgg86 08-11-2010, 04:20 AM Does anyone know what the name of this one is? Sounds really spooky, I have never seen it before.
Dorothy Donovan.
The tops ones that I always seem to think of when I think of UM are...
Clarence Roberts
Kurt Sova
Joe Owens
Wackers
Son of Sam
Mable Woods
The Dutchman 06-09-2011, 05:23 PM My favorite all-time segment has to be the Tom Young/Keith Reinhard case.
It is one of the most well-done segments to begin with, and is a mystery that
had endured for nearly 25 years.
The runner-ups for favorite segment (sorry, I'm forgetful on some of these):
Joe Owens
Charlie Scheel
Lansing Loner (guy who died at YMCA with lots of money)
Dexter Stefonek
Georgia Fisherman Missing ("Casie Nicole" boat)
Alaskan hitchhiker murder (where RCMP were interviewed)
Snead/Bob Bean segment (how could this not be a favorite?)
UMFaninMD 06-09-2011, 06:11 PM One of my favorites is the Ohio Prostitute Killer case. It's both chilling and heartbreaking at the same time. Another really good one that would get a new viewer into the show is Dennis Depue, for the opening "Jeepers Creepers" like scene and the sheer horror that was the photo of the Depues.
Other favorites:
Beverly McGowan
The Circleville Letters
The I-70 Killer
Doreen Picard/Susan Laferte
Cindy Anderson
Son of Sam (one where the Satanism angle is actually pretty believable)
The New Hampshire Serial Killer
Tallmans' Ghost
Megan Curl
Gail Delano
Satanic Arsonist
Dale Kersetter
Dave Bocks
Boston Rapist
Angela Hammond
Debra Poe
Caddie Sea Monster (this has some pretty strong evidence to indicate that it existed or still does)
Judy Himes
Ethel Kidd
ATV Murders
The Two Marys
Mikki Jo West
Actually, any of the murder mysteries/missing people/unknown criminals are good ones for people to get into. Some of the UFO and supernatural stuff, especially those fertility statues, I can take or leave. :D
Hambone2421 06-10-2011, 09:08 AM One that has become my all time favorite is the Mary Morris segment.
rts29803 06-10-2011, 10:54 AM So many good ones....but
Angela Hammond
The Two Marys
L'Enfant
Circleville Writer
And for a laugh...the Bonnie Wilder story (it's a new store, we can build it together!)....and who could forget the master salad maker Jule Caylor

I cannot remember the Jule Caylor segment for the life of me and I cant seem to find it when I check the video website either. Does anyone know where I can find it at?
Gelatinous Goo 06-10-2011, 11:56 AM It should be listed under Dottie Caylor.
amandab1234 06-17-2011, 10:46 PM I have so many... I'd probably show go with the Queen Mary Ghosts Episode or Resurrection Mary.(Sp?). Those two episodes gave me nightmares as a kiddo!
amandab1234 06-17-2011, 11:25 PM For me it is a tie between Ethel Kidd and........CIRCLEVILLE LETTERS!!
Ethel Kidd loved "cookouts"... I loved how he said it lol:lol:
Ipreferfantasy 11-16-2012, 01:02 AM I have one word. Alcatraz. The special they aired on tv where they had the man try to swim from Alcatraz island to the mainland to prove it could be done. And he made it! That story had it all, murder, intrigue, ingenuity, characters. All the devices they crafted to aviod detection. Dummy heads, homemade drills, and rats made of raincoats. The interviews are great too!
DALLASTEXAN!! 11-16-2012, 10:22 PM I've put a few on here. The carol segment is a creepy random act of violence. Likely a drunk driver that got trigger happy.
giantsfan82 11-16-2012, 11:55 PM My personal favorite UM segments are as follows:
-Keith Reinhard
-Clarence Roberts
-Darlie Routier
